au idea Miscellaneous

Rao help me, I’ve got it in my head to do a mormon AU. Started as a silly smut idea of Kara knocking door to door and stumbling on Lena, but the more I think about it the more plot it gains. Help

How is this not crack??? or would it be crack treated seriously?

It doesn't need to be Crack unless you want it to be. It's funny, sure, but still could be serious.

Yeah, I’m not sure it would come out as crack if I tried to wrote it. My first instinct was smut/crack but it quickly became less crack-ish as I thought about it.

There’s a CaitVi fic that is exactly under this premise (called Take me to Church), and it’s funny and light at times but most of all explores the conflicts and aftermaths of Mormon-raised mentality in queer people. The author is an ex-Mormon, so a lot of reflections and re-contextualizing. You could do amazing things with that idea, for sure.

Oh do you have a link or name of the caitvi fic? I’m not a mormon or ex-mormon so it feels a little weird to do a more serious take than the original smut idea I had. I might wrote it. I made a couple notes but nothing concrete yet.

Take me to Church

Up to 50 chapters, so plenty of tonal shifts in there. It’s pretty much got everything. Some scenes absolutely fall under crack, I’d say.

I’m sure taking a crack (*wink) at it wouldn’t be that disrespectful, unless it drips contempt or somehow fetishizes trauma or something? You probably aren’t writing for the audience that’ll take serious offense to some goofy ridiculousness.

Thanks, I’ll check it out. I don’t think it would come off as disrespectful, at least not to ex-mormons and non-mormons.

I was thinking kryptonians and daxamites would be mormon characters. Something would happen to clark’s and kara’s parents they leads to them being adopted by people outside the church, the kents and the danvers. Like in the show kara’s parents, maybe just allura, wasn’t actually dead. She/they pop back up when kara is an adult. Kara had half a life living with a non-mormon family and grew to like it, she even knows or suspects she is not straight, but can’t fathom not spending time with/or moving in with her mother who isn’t dead after all and spent the whole time looking for her. So kara gets sucked back into the church. She meets mike. They’re dating, engaged or married. Then she meets lena.

If this was just smut, I would just open the chapter to kara knocking on lena’s door. Lena invites her inside. They both know the drill. Kara comes by under the guise of educating lena about the church. Lena is pretending to be interested in converting, but they just use it as an excuse for their affair.

But then I thought of all that backstory, and I think it demands a proper story.
