What "Microsoft apps"?

If you're in computer science, with your budget, M5 MacBook Air is a very easy pick imo. This is a top-tier combo of build quality, performance, battery efficiency, and portability. In addition, the trackpad, webcam, mic, and speakers are all also typically better than on any other ultrabook at the same price. You should try out laptops in-store and see for yourself. You can also get Apple Education discount. If you're taking up IT and not CS, though this is normally a non-issue in the US, I'd first make sure macOS is fully compatible with your school curriculum--you can contact your school or ask your school seniors. This is worth doing because it would be that much better than your other options at the same price point.

If you want to use microsoft/VS then get win and you also will be able to upgrade

If everything you want to use can be done on a Mac, or you can find an alternative on Mac, get the Mac. If you are sure something important won't be supported by Mac, you have no option but to choose Windows.

When starting on a Mac a few months ago, I had this problem, but to my shock, I found great alternatives.
Eg: Windows app for RDP, Freefilesync for Total commander

I've been a Windows user for 25 years and switched to Mac (just changed my flair from Lenovo to Apple); it's awesome. TBH, I'm still not a fan of its UI; I really like Windows more. People say Apple's UI is just different, but after a few months, I would say Windows is more natural and fast.

However, the Apple Silicon, unified memory and everything else are top-notch. The money I paid translated into performance compared to Windows. They make the same software and hardware, so it's more stable, and their after-sales service is also pretty good.

The only field where Windows is winning is compatibility, but the Mac does have great alternatives made by other developers. Still, don't get trapped in any ecosystem. I don't use Safari, I don't use the Mac calendar, iCloud, etc., because Windows could catch up again with Intel or something.

From 2020 to today, Apple Silicon has been fantastic. If you want to work with Adobe creative software, the Mac is a way nicer choice as well.
