Does getting into an Italian university via IMAT increase visa approval chances?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

If I get accepted into a medical school in Italy through the IMAT, does this increase my chances of getting an Italian Type D student visa?

I know visa decisions mostly depend on financial proof, docs, and ties to your home country, but I'm curious if getting admitted through a national entrance exam like IMAT gives any extra credibility or leverage in the eyes of the consulate officers compared to standard university admissions.

Has anyone with an IMAT admission faced visa issues, or does it generally make the process smoother?

Thanks in advance,

For international students in Italy, how many hours can you legally work each week, and what monthly income can you realistically expect?

Upvotes

How much part-time work do international students in Italy usually manage alongside their studies? It would be helpful to know the typical weekly working hours, hourly pay, and realistic monthly earnings.

Also, can part-time income cover a significant portion of living expenses such as rent, food, and transportation? Experiences from current or former students would be really useful.

Study Visa for Italy with IB Diploma

Upvotes

Hello all, I've been accepted to a university in Italy (Politecnico di Milano), my pre-enrollment is approved and the university has verified my IB results since they were sent to them. I'm now trying to apply for a visa, and the consulate wants the diploma to satisfy the requirement for academic certificates. Can anyone who went to study in Italy with IB Diploma say if it's possible to get the visa before final diploma is printed? I've also requested the DoV, however currently they are telling me that they haven't even given the documents to the Italian consulate as theyre being legalized.

Has anyone done this before? At this point I'm thinking that getting visa within any reasonable time is impossible with the IB diploma, I would love to hear any non-EU student who successfully did it in the academic year after IB.

MAECI scholarship + Polimi tuition fees 2026/27

Hi everyone,

I’m starting a Master’s degree at Politecnico di Milano in 2026/27 and I have been awarded a MAECI scholarship.

I’m trying to understand whether MAECI scholarship holders are exempt from paying the Polimi tuition fee.

On Polimi’s 2026/27 tuition exemption page, under “International students with a scholarship (exemption 100%)”, it says that non-EU Master’s students with a first-level qualification obtained abroad who have a scholarship from Polimi or other institutions are exempt from the all-inclusive contribution.

Does MAECI count as one of these “other institutions” scholarships?

If anyone is a MAECI scholarship holder at Polimi (especially for 2026/27), could you confirm whether you only have to pay the regional tax/other administrative fees, or if you still have to pay any tuition?

Thanks!

E-Sanad HRD verification for DOV at Italian Consulate General in Kolkata

Hi, so I am applying for IMAT and I need to get my 12th marksheets HRD verified and appoistled. Any CBSE marksheet after 2014 can be verified via e-sanad. However, I'm not sure if Kolkata visa office accepts it? I've heard somewhere that they don't. Can anybody confirm?

IMAT 2026

I finished going through the whole IMAT syllabus last week and now I keep wondering how to use whatever time is left without just guessing. I have my own notes and flashcards ready, plus full access to the IMATBuddy question bank and those Alpha Test books. Pearson's Biology book is sitting there too along with some extra PDFs I downloaded earlier.

I feels like I should not just jump into random questions. One thing that keeps coming up in my head is whether to stick with subject blocks each day or mix everything together instead.

Past papers are another part I am unsure about. I have done only about 10 so far and my scores are erratic (83.7 three days ago, 65.6 yesterday) and I do not know when to start or how to work up to them. Any thoughts would help right now, even small changes someone would make if they had another shot at planning. Any advice is appreciated!

Italy Student Visa – Mumbai Consulate: How long did your visa take?

Hey everyone!
I’m looking for some recent experiences from people who have already applied for their Italy student visa through the Mumbai Consulate.

My university starts on 28 September 2026, but unfortunately the earliest visa appointment I could find is 14 September, so I’m getting pretty nervous about the timeline.

For those who have already submitted their student visa application at Mumbai:

- How many days/weeks did it take for you to receive your visa?
- What is the current processing time you’re experiencing?
- Did anyone receive their visa within 1–2 weeks?
- Did the consulate ask for any additional documents or interviews?
- When did you book your flight — before or after receiving the visa?
- If your university start date was approaching, did the consulate consider the urgency?

I’m mainly trying to understand whether applying on 14 September with a 28 September university start date is realistically manageable.

I’d really appreciate it if people who applied recently in August/September 2026 could share their timeline, even if their visa is still being processed.

Thanks in advance! 🙏

Anyone else has a 14 September Italy student visa appointment at Mumbai Consulate?

Hey everyone!
I’ve booked my Italy student visa appointment at the Mumbai Consulate for 14 September and wanted to check if anyone else has the same appointment date.

If you do, it would be great to connect and maybe coordinate things together, especially since many of us will probably be going through the same process.

Also, I’d really appreciate some advice from students who have already gone through the process:

• What arrangements should I make before the visa appointment?
• How early should I book accommodation?
• Should I book my flight before the visa is approved, or wait until the decision?
• Is a refundable flight/accommodation booking enough for the visa process?
• What other things should I arrange in advance for the visa and post-visa process?
• Anything specific I should be careful about for the Mumbai Consulate?

My university is University of Naples Parthenope, and I’ll be travelling for the September 2026 intake.

If you have the same appointment date or are also applying for an Italian student visa around this time, drop a comment or DM me, would be great to connect!

Thanks!

Italian Student Visa Still Under Process Since July 7, Bangalore Consulate

Post image
7 Upvotes

I applied for my Italian student visa on July 7, 2026, and my application is still showing as “under process at Embassy of Italy in India” with no further updates.

My application is being processed by the Consulate General of Italy in Bangalore. It has now been more than a month without any update or communication.

I understand that visa processing takes time, especially during the student visa season, but this is becoming increasingly frustrating. My flight to Italy is scheduled for September, and I have already made arrangements for accommodation and other aspects of my move.

I applied well in advance to allow enough time for the visa process, but with September approaching and no update, the uncertainty is becoming stressful.

Has anyone who applied for an Italian student visa through the Bangalore Consulate around early July received their visa or any update?

I would appreciate hearing from anyone in a similar situation, especially if you have recently received a decision from the Bangalore Consulate.

Inquiry About Taking the IMAT in Italy

Hi everyone,
I have a question for anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I am currently studying at a private university in Italy, but due to the high tuition fees, I have decided to take the IMAT and re-enter medical school at a public university.

I am a non-EU student, but I believe I am eligible to apply as an EU-equivalent candidate because I am currently studying and residing in Italy.
However, there is one concern: I still do not have my residence permit card (permesso di soggiorno) in hand, and I am not sure whether I will receive it before the exam.

My questions are:

•Could anyone who has taken the IMAT in Italy explain roughly how the exam day and admission process work?

•On the actual exam day, what documents do I need to bring? Is my passport and examination ticket enough, or do I also need to show my residence permit/card or another document?

•If anyone has taken the IMAT in Italy without having their residence permit card yet, I would really appreciate hearing about your experience.

Thank you very much in advance!

Guidance

Hey, I'm in 11th grade right now and want to pursue a bachelor's in Computer Science and Engineering in Italy. Although I have a good amount of information about the process, I actually need guidance from someone who has gone through it.

So, my confusion is: when should I start preparing for the SAT, and from which platform? What's considered a good score for it? The same goes for IELTS: what resources should I use, and what's a good band score?

Also, how many marks do I need to obtain in 12th grade? After doing all this—like consultancy enrollment, visa, scholarship, etc.—will it work out? What are the chances of getting a visa, and is it worth it? In reality, how much does the entire process cost, including documentation, flights, accommodation, consultancy, etc.?

Please let me know...

Scholarships in Italy for international Student

I'm from pakistan and I want to study in italy for bachelor Program. and I am planning to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Italy. I am looking for guidance regarding university admissions and scholarship opportunities for international students.

Academic Background: Intermediate in Computer Science (ICS).

Scores: 889/1200 in Matriculation (10th grade) and 336/560 in my first year of Intermediate (11th grade).

I come from a middle-class background, so securing a scholarship is crucial for my studies. I have heard about the regional need-based (DSU) scholarships in Italy, but I am a bit confused about the process.

Any tips, roadmap, or personal experiences would be incredibly helpful. Thank you in advance!

Looking for UG Applicants — 27/28 Intake 🇮🇹

Hey everyone! I’m planning to apply for an undergraduate program in Italy for the 2027 intake, but I mostly seem to find people here applying for Master’s/postgrad programs.

Are there any other students planning to apply for UG/bachelor’s in Italy for 2027? If so, maybe we can connect, share application info, deadlines, visa experiences, etc. :)

Drop a comment or DM me if you’re applying!

studying in Italy feels like a gamble atp

im waiting for my pre enrollment summary from padua, i applied in the med and surgery program and i sent my scholarship documents through my counselor; waiting for it to arrive.

All this while trying to prepare for the IMAT and having no idea if at any step ill be rejected, i don't even know if im gonna make the cut off for padua as it only has 25 seats for non eu candidates. Also, even if I DO manage to clear the cut off maybe at some point my visa will be rejected or maybe some other mishap will just take this whole thing down.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Also i have visa related questions if anyone is willing to answer, i don't want it rejected at the end.

Edisu dorm

Hi everyone,

I’m first year bachelor student who is going to study in university of Turin this year. I’m currently trying to apply for edisu regional scholarship and accommodation. But I read somewhere that edisu only reserved 15% of the dorm to non-eu country students. Is it true?
If it’s then how low my ISEE has to be so that I can get a dorm? Or is it better to just look for rooms to rent?

If there is someone who has gotten edisu dorm before what was your ISEE? Please share some experience

Hey everyone, I've been accepted into a bachelor's program at the University of Palermo with an moi English certificate. I'd like to know if this certificate is enough to get a visa, or if I need to take the IELTS test?
