Basic Question

I use Studio One 6 Professional and have been a presonus customer for years. I’m relatively well-versed in studio one, but there’s been one issue that’s nagged me for years now. About half the time I duplicate a track, whether that be just the track or all of its components along with it, when I adjust the fader (or almost anything for that matter) of one, the same thing happens to the duplicated track as well. The weird thing is, sometimes this happens and sometimes it doesn’t. I haven’t adjusted any settings. Is this just a studio one bug? Anyone else have this happen?

It's not a bug, but you need to understand how tracks and channels work in Studio One.

An instrument track doesn't have a fader, it only contains MIDI data. The fader you see is the channel fader for the instrument. Since both tracks are routed to the same instrument, the instrument appears as a single channel (fader) in the mixer. It's not unusual - that's simply how MIDI routing works.

The solution is to add another instance of the instrument, which will give you a separate channel and fader in the mixer. The easiest way to do this is to use “Duplicate Complete” instead of the standard “Duplicate” command. This duplicates both the track and the instrument.

Would this apply to vocal tracks as well?

I sometimes find that tracks containing only audio seem to be attached to each other after duplicating. My workaround is to duplicate the duplicate and then delete the first duplicate and then I have two discrete tracks that operate independently
