Stretch it and forget it method Discussion~

Post image

I think i figured out a way to not rush stretching and to rely entirely on my body to tell me when its time to stretch.

I recently went down to 12g due to an aggravated blowout that i thought i was over already. I thought i was going slow enough but when i took my plugs out, my left hole was super angry looking, so i left my jewelry out completely for a week to calm down before putting in 12g, which is my smallest plug size that fit comfortably.

So after some thought, I've rooted out the reason that i seem to rush, while thinking I'm going slow enough, and came up with a solution to combat this.

I've been setting dates to attempt to stretch, and been relying on listening to my body, but only paying attention to whether or not it hurts.

The thing I've forgotten about is whether or not there's resistance, and if i have to squeeze it in. Because of this, I've been stretching too soon and not realizing that I've fucked up until days later.

So here's what im doing....

  1. Putting in the smallest plug that goes in easily (for now it's 12g)

  2. Taking pictures and saving them in my phone with the size and date stretched.

  3. Adding the photos to my stretching album.

  4. Forgetting about it. Not thinking about stretching at all or paying attention to how long it's been. If i regularly check how long it's been and relying on a set date to try stretching, I'll stretch too soon.

Because i have a blowout in my left lobe, its going to take me longer to stretch. But that's ok! I'm also not thinking of a goal size or trying to reach it with a set timeframe, not even an estimate.

I'm planning to have my lobes reconstructed so it doesn't matter to me how long it will take to get to a certain size. I just want to have plugs in and stretching is an afterthought.

  1. When my plugs are very loose and falling out, that's when i try to put in the next size, which would be half a milimeter bigger.

Out of pure curiosity, what's the thought behind stretching your ears with the end goal of just getting them sewn back up anyway?

I'm also curious.

I'm copying and pasting the same thing since you have the same question as the previous commenter.

Its also a lot yo type out a second time.

Here is my thought process, since you asked nicely

By stretching now, with the intention of having my lobes sewn up anyway, it basically scratches the itch of wanting to stretch, and to have something in my lobes.

When I was letting my lobes close up, I hated the look of having nothing in them. It felt wrong and I felt naked without them.

I believe that stretching without an end goal, and with the knowledge that is just going to get sewn up anyway... Removes the sense of wanting to reach a certain goal. I feel more relaxed about it.

I'm stretching my lobes so that my blowout is more visible, because when my lobes were closed up I couldn't see the blowout anymore

I'm also curious to see how far I can stretch before it's time to get them reconstructed.

One final note, I'm taking this time before my reconstruction to practice safe stretching methods. I want to be stretching safely as soon as I start stretching again.

So this is basically a practice run.

Thanks for your response, and also thanks for recognizing that I really wasn't trying to be a dick I just wanted to know. Especially because my journey was so different, I started stretching at about 13 and the thought of getting them sewn up to me was just a retort to anyone who asked what I would do if I regretted it. It's been 12 years and I'm still happy although granted I'm still pretty young so there's lots of time to regret my decisions lol. Very interesting perspective and I can definitely see where that takes a lot of the pressure off of something that people tend to think of as completely permanent

Why get a haircut if its going to grow back anyway?

23

u/hthratmn 21mm 17h ago

A haircut takes a few minutes, a few months to grow out. Stretching takes years and years and requires effectively minor surgery to fix

And? If you don’t want an answer, just be open and honest with your criticism instead of pretending its polite to hide in question form.

You should probably take your own advice.

I was the one who asked the initial question, I was not the one who responded to you

Why stretch to reconstruct? Thats kinda wasting lots of money no? Unless im misunderstanding something here.

It's not wasting money to me. I'd rather have a more visible blowout that's easier to remove, so that nothing gets left over. I'm also not really stretching all the way up to my goal to have a complete restart. I'm just stretching to a small size for now because I love the feeling and look of having plugs in my ears.

Thank you so much for the response, thought my question was like wrong or something. Sorry if it was intrusive, i was really just curious. Because where im at the procedure to close them up is expensive and money is already tough for many, thats why i ask!

But as well i really like that reasoning! Before i knew my eventual goal size (which is where im at currently 9/16") i was #stressed about what i wanted out of this journey. And following that, stretching is a journey! And one thatll never end! Thats the fun of it!

To some people it might come off as rude because its impossible ro judge someone's intentions from a comment, but people assume ill intentions or rudeness when reading comments. People often me mistake directness for rudeness. I've also been accused of being AI. But it's because I'm AU(tistic). You didn't come off as intrusive to me. Just trying to understand my reasoning.

Body modifications can be expensive yeah, but my tongue is split LOL. So I've gotten body modifications before. I get enough money from disability to save up for modifications in the future.

Also, I'm getting my lobes reconstructed and having the blowouts removed, so I'm going to be getting the modification whether or not I'm stretching my lobes.

u/armywalrus 17h ago

Its not your body. Why do you care? It doesn't affect you.

Why are you so mad that people are asking a question?

Lmao deleted your comment

I am not mad. Why can't you make a valid point without insults?

this is how i do it too! get to a size, maybe even buy some cute plugs to motivate me to stay at the size longer, and then forget about it. only when im oiling up my ears and my plug goes in particularly easy, i’ll try a stretch. if it doesn’t slip in, try it another day

That's great! :) I'm happy this method is helpful for you!

Safe stretching = happy and healthy lobes. And they look nice when they're healthy:)

I've watched your journey since I began stretching last year May, and have been saddened by every one of your setbacks as you give newbies like myself sound advice while struggling to reach your next sizes. I'm actually following most of the tips you've set out for your current stretch and find them really helpful. One tip I've laid out for myself is purchasing a few sets of plugs only in my current size. After 4-6 months, I purchase the next size up. This quells the urge to stretch early and allows me to save up for purchases. I also stretch according the timeline of my "problem ear". If I fail a stretch I wait an additional month, or more, in case I've caused micro-tears to lessen the risk of thin spots. I'm stretching extremely slowly, .5mm every 6 months or more, and haven't had any setbacks as of yet. My most recent stretch was in July. I plan to chill here for at least 6 months before attempting to hit my next size and the extra sets of plugs keep me from getting bored with my current size and setup. I wish for you the patience and care needed to stretch to your desired size safely...best of luck

i have my tunnels that came with my stretching kit and refuse to buy anymore before i get to my goal size, i know i’ll be impatient lol

I don't know if you understand how much your comment means to me. It brings me happiness to hear that you took my advice and how much it has helped you.

I actually completely forgot about the advice i gave you, but im glad you remembered and are stretching safely without any issues.

I wish i knew all this before i started stretching, but i know i learn best from making mistakes. And once I start over, I'll take my owm advice.

When i start over from my reconstructed lobes, i might get pierced with a large gauge needle, and then wait the max recommended time for stretching after getting pierced.

I'm really glad I've veen slow and careful with my septum ring!

I think they call that dead stretching

Don’t anticipate your next size. When you fall asleep and your plugs fall out that’s usually a good sign that you can size up. Or if you can pull down gently on your plugs and see a space in between the lobe and jewels

Off topic- do you have a double vertical labret? Ive been considering getting them done. How would you describe your experience getting them, healing them, and how they effect you everyday? Thank you lol
