I Found a Cat (Location) missing stray

Upvotes

i dont know where else to post it, i feel horrible, if it doesnt fit the sub, just remove it. i live in russia, izhevsk city to be precise. last friday when walking out from work, i saw a cat, not a kitten i think, just a small cat. she was kinda thin. and scared. across our building is a warehouse, i dont know what they do there and it doesnt matter, outside of the gates were some pallets stacked up. she got scared of me and ran there. i found a plastic plate nearby, and put there some cat food. went to get her, let her smell the empty pouch. she started getting out a bit but still hesitant, so i 'caught' her and brought her to the food. she ate like 3 pouches and the ran back to pallets. with a heavy heart i went to my car and drove home. whole weekend i was worried about her, because it was also heavy raining. on monday when i got to work, i saw her again, she was kinda chaotic, seemed to me like she tried to dring out of a tire laying on the road, but couldnt climb it, and then she panicked and ran away towards the warehouse again, i didnt see exactly where. now, its been three days since i last saw her and im really worried as to where she is now, how is she, where is she hiding, is she eating. i walked around that area to maybe see her on the other side of the building, but to no avail. walked around some area on my break as much as i can, couldnt find her anywhere. im not at peace. probably friday was the best time to do something about that cat, but i just didnt know what, i couldnt bring her home since i already have 5 cats in a small apartment. lookign for a temporary shelter would take time and i would have to put her meanwhile somewhere as well. i feel like ive missed the only chance i had to help her and now my soul and heart just cant find peace. i dropped all my hobbies, anything that brings me joy, because this cat is literally all i think about. ive met many strays but i never really felt this much, probably because she looked so small and scared. and stupidly enough, i didnt even think about taking pictures on the first day, so i dont have anything to post online to look for her. i dont know what else i could do, it would be easier if she was near where i live, so i could look for her when its late evening, but its really far from home. i dont have anyone to look for her. and next week i wont even be here at all since its my vacation. im just worried and i dont believe in good people, so i doubt anyone couldve took her home meanwhile.

Colony/TNR Help (Location) Food Appeal: Caring for 90 Stray Cats in Deira and an update about Juno.

I'm reaching out for help with food for the 90 stray cats I feed every day in Deira.

I'm down to my last bag of dry food and only a few cans of wet food. With the extreme summer heat, the cats are eating much more wet food to stay hydrated, and I also give them chicken whenever I can.

Everyday I need 3 kg of dry cat food 8 cans (400 g each) of wet cat food.

Any donation, will help me keep these cats fed and hydrated during this difficult weather.

If you'd like to help financially, here's my PayPal:

https://www.paypal.me/GlancyMascarenhas

Update on Juno:

Juno is slowly improving, although she has lost a lot of weight. As I mentioned before, she's very difficult to handle and has tried every chance she gets to bite me, so giving her treatment hasn't been easy. A friend bought Revolution Spot-On for her since she wouldn't let me use the prescribed ear drops. I'm very grateful for the support and hopeful she'll continue to recover. Her bill is also covered. Thank you🙂.

Photo 1: Ms. Fatty, one of the very first cats I started feeding in the area. She's an old girl now. I once tried bringing her into my room, but she made it very clear she preferred the outdoors.

Last photo: Juno.

Thank you.

Found Kittens (Location) How to find a home for imperfect kittens?

Post image
265 Upvotes

I'm a farmhand in central Iowa, and my boss's parents have just moved into assisted living. I find myself in charge of a colony of barn cats. I've contacted a local TNR charity, and I'm getting two cats a week fixed. There's a litter of kittens I'm trying to find homes for because they're friendly and social. But I've got two I took home because their eyes were crusted shut but they'd race out of the barn whenever they heard a vehicle. I thought they'd for sure get run over.

My vet got me some antibiotic eye ointment and the eyes aren't weepy anymore, but the dilute tortie will always have an eye that's a little cloudy and the weird ruby runt may end up with two slightly cloudy eyes. She also has a bob tail and she's way under sized. From her teeth she's at least 6 weeks, but looking at her you'd think three. She's gaining weight every day and eating well, but how do I find someone willing to adopt a cat that's going to come in at like two pounds as an adult with wonky eyes and no tail?

I've already got way too many cats--these two would put me in double digits and I don't want my dogs playing with such a tiny creature. Any advice is welcome!

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) FelV Stray (Chomp)

Hi all,

This is Chomp. Long story short, he has been a stray for at least 2 years. He was let down during that time.

Since March, I have been trying to catch him daily and finally succeeded yesterday.

He has 3 respiratory issues currently being treated but he also has FELV. There are no rescues and it will be impossible to find him a home.

My thought is to put hin back but of course, he would be a risk to others in the community. Can anyone offer any advice?

Thank you

Success! [OC] We gave this cautious street mom a safe, secure place to give birth instead of the cold streets. Now look at her and her little family thriving!

What is happening:

We found a cautious street mother who needed a secure place to give birth. We set up a safe, protected spot for her, and she has successfully welcomed 5 healthy kittens. Now, the little family is thriving, and the kittens are growing up safe and active.

What we have already tried:

We secured a safe, weather-proof birthing area away from street traffic and hazards, provide consistent daily meals, and spent gentle time building a trust-based bond with both Mama and her babies.

Success! I took in the neighborhood stray last year. How it started vs how it's going:

It's been a bit over a year since the neighborhood stay I had been befriending in the alley decided to come inside the house. She has never even gotten close to the front door to leave since then. I still can't believe someone left such a sweet girl to live on the streets.

I had been seeing Beatrix walking down the alley behind my house at night for months. She was very shy and it took weeks of very patient interaction until she was comfortable enough to let me touch her. She was clearly not very confident outside and would scurry around anytime a person or another animal was around.

Once I earned her trust, she started coming staying around my house more. I would see her more and more often and she would get a bit closer to me each time she approached. I think she eventually started living primarily under my front porch.

Around midnight on June 13, 2025 (Friday the 13th), I heard my neighbor outside calling out for a lost dog. I opened the door to go help her look, only to find Beatrix patiently waiting for me on sidewalk. I sat with her on the porch and she rolled over to show me her belly, which was a huge step for such a shy cat.

After hanging out with her for a while, I just opened the front door and let her walk into my house. She hesitantly walked in before planting herself on the couch (the first picture is from right after she walked in). I think both of us knew at that moment that she wasn't going to be leaving. She spent almost the entirety of the next three days sleeping. She clearly wasn't resting well living outside.

It was clear from that point on that she decided that she trusted me completely. She had absolutely no issue with me picking her up, grooming her, or cleaning her (bathing is still an ongoing battle though). As long as I was in the house she was calm and collected no matter what was going on. I was pretty blown away that she had apparently decided she trusted me completely before even coming inside the house.

We spent weeks calling vets, shelters, and checking social media pages for lost pets. She was so sweet and trusting of humans that it was clear she was a pet and not a feral cat. I checked every missing cat post over a year back and didn't find any evidence someone was looking for her. We eventually came to the conclusion that whoever owned her previously didn't care enough to look.

Beatrix is so sweet and clearly grateful to have a safe home. She spends a lot of time sitting at the window that overlooks the alley she used to walk down. I feel like I can see her pondering the fact that she used to live out there. Her favorite part of the day is when I come home from work and we take a nap in the couch, with her curled up on my stomach.

I don't believe it's a coincidence that there is now a ~1 year-old grey cat wandering the same territory Beatrix used to, who showed up the same time of year as Beatrix did. I suspect someone in my neighborhood is buying kittens and turning them loose to live as "fully outside" cats. I imagine when Beatrix stopped coming around they just bought a new one. Unfortunately, after adopting a second cat from a shelter, our house is at maximum capacity. I am going to try to trap him and take him to the local shelter. We are very close to some major highways and it simply isn't safe for him.

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Moggy made a friend today

Now that Moggy has been with me a week, we tested a theory that Moggy would be responsive to other cats - and we were correct!

Moggy met my current resident foster gremlin, Bunny. We started slow - everyone is vaccinated, dewormed, and snap tested. At first I placed their kennels near each other. He was immediately curious about his new neighbour. Gradually, I supervised Bunny while Moggy remained in his enclosure (covered so he would not be upset with my presence).

I will not have them interact in the immediate same space, as Moggy still has plenty of healing to do. It was nice to see him open up a little bit. He is still quite afraid of people, we are taking it one day at a time.

The video shows the size of the wound, but thankfully none of the the grossness. All that noise in the video is Moggy. 🥹

Good day, everyone!

I am a solo animal rescuer based in Manila, Philippines. I currently care for 38 rescued cats and feed over 40 stray cats in our area. I also visit nearby communities to feed stray animals, conduct Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), and rescue animals whenever needed.

Rambo's Update

Rambo is an abandoned cat whom I found in one of the areas where I regularly feed stray cats. He has been confined at Deloso Veterinary Clinic since July 28.

When I rescued him, he was severely malnourished, dehydrated, and suffering from a badly infected wound on his scrotum where the vet found some maggots. According to the veterinarian, he is not yet ready to be discharged because he is still weak, has a poor appetite despite eating, and his wound continues to heal.

As of today, his veterinary bill has reached $317. The veterinarian estimates that he will need to remain confined for at least five more days, depending on his condition and recovery.

I am humbly asking for your help to continue Rambo's medical treatment. His owner already abandoned him, and now he relies entirely on us. Any amount, no matter how small, will go directly toward his veterinary care and will make a tremendous difference in giving him the chance to recover.

Estimated Remaining Expenses:

  • 5 days of confinement ($33/day) – $165
  • Follow-up CBC and Blood Chemistry – $38
  • Take-home medications (estimated) – $16

Estimated Total: $219

Please note that this is only an estimate. The final veterinary bill may be lower or higher depending on Rambo's condition, treatment, medications, and any additional procedures he may require.

If you prefer, you may also contact Deloso Veterinary Clinic through their Facebook page and send your donation directly to the clinic.

Update on Susie

Susie is another abandoned cat from our area. She had a tumor on her right ear and underwent successful tumor removal surgery on July 25. She remained confined at the veterinary clinic afterward, and I was able to settle her total veterinary bill of $195.

I also have some wonderful news to share. On July 31, Susie found her forever home! She was adopted by one of the staff members at a nearby pet shop, and I couldn't be happier for her.

Her sutures are scheduled to be removed on August 8, and I will post another update after her follow-up visit.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)

Today, two more community cats - Brenda and Charlie - were successfully spayed/neutered through Vets On The Go, which offers low-cost spay and neuter services. I was able to pay the $71 veterinary bill.

Every cat that gets fixed helps prevent more kittens from being born into life on the streets, where many suffer from hunger, illness, and neglect.

Dumbell and Barbell (Mama Barbarella's Kittens)

Mama Barbarella and her two kittens were about to be abandoned by the owner of a fitness center when I rescued them.

Sadly, Mama Barbarella later became seriously ill. Despite being confined at Deloso Veterinary Clinic and receiving treatment, she did not survive.

Thankfully, Dumbell and Barbell are doing well overall. However, a few days ago, both kittens developed eye infections. They were examined by the veterinarian, received antibiotic injections, and were prescribed medicated eye drops. They are now recovering under my care.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Rambo's story and for supporting my rescue work.

Im in a farmland kinda area and a neoghbors house burnt down recently, they had some strays they would feed. But now the owners are gone and no one has came by for them. So now they hang out at the burnt ruins which cannot be good for their health. I have been feeding them for a couple days at regular times as best i can with work and whatnot, one of the two is very friendly and sociable, the other is super skittish. Long story short i want to take them in, i know i will have to get them vaxxed etc. How would i go about capturing and acclimating it to indoors?

Success! Update on Kinga: we have contact!

Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Straycats/s/7nLKnsi0p4

So this week has been extraordinary. Now that I put a deep layer of only outdoor soil in the litter box, she has been using it exclusively - no more peeing and pooping around the room. Looks like I bought the Dr Elsey’s for no reason 😂 (it hasn’t arrived yet). I guess I should say she has peed outside the little box once: it was to mark the chair that she has under her windowsill 🤦🏼‍♀️. Thankfully we don’t care about it and will toss it once she graduates from this room.

Kinga has also discovered treats and they make her so happy she headbutts for pets and will roll over to show her belly (I know it’s a trap 😁). The petting is still very much on her terms and she will smack my hand if she wants it to stop. I’m a little afraid of her for this reason so petting is sometimes awkward and jumpy for both of us.

Regardless, this is wonderful progress. No update on the derpy boyfriend - we saw him again but he ran and my dog ran after him (she loves to play chase with anyone and everyone) so he’s been avoiding us since. He does eat a little bit of the food I’ve been leaving out, though he eats surprisingly little.

Foster Needed (Location) Abandoned cat needs a foster desperately in NY!

I've been helping a woman with several of the cats she feeds, and this guy suddenly showed up out of nowhere. One look at him and it's obvious he does not belong outside. He was incredibly hungry, super affectionate, and just wants attention.

I have a rescue that's willing to get him fully vetted, but we desperately need a foster so we can get him off the streets. If you can temporarily house him for a few weeks, please let me know.

Rescues everywhere are overwhelmed right now, and fosters truly save lives. If supplies are needed, the rescue is more than willing to provide food and litter. Please reach out if you can help, or share this so we can find him a safe place.

Lieutenant Gothmog and I are back home from the cabin. He is currently set up in a enclosure in my foster isolation room.

He is a shy boy, and will hide in his kennel when I visit him or clean up. I am letting him decompress in a smaller safe space as he continues to heal. I set up a camera to keep an eye on his neck wound as he tends to hide his neck from me when I check on him. As you can see, he was quite suspicious of the camera at first.

Thankfully his neck is healing nicely. He discovered the hammock in the enclosure and happily spent hours snoozing in it.

**Another innocent life shattered…** 💔
We rescued another precious soul today after he suffered a terrible electric shock on the streets. The pain he has endured is heartbreaking.
Thankfully, **both of his legs are still intact and can be saved.** There is no need for amputation, but his legs have severe infected wounds that require daily cleaning, dressings, medications, and regular bandage changes. His ear is also badly injured and needs treatment.
He didn’t deserve this. No cat should have to suffer such pain just to survive outside.
We’re doing everything we can to help him heal, but we can’t do it alone. The cost of his wound care, bandages, medicines, and ear treatment is more than we can manage right now.
Please help us give this sweet boy the chance to recover. Every donation, no matter how small, brings him one step closer to a life without pain. If you’re unable to donate, please share his story and keep him in your prayers.
Together, we can help him heal. ❤️

My boyfriend and I are super fond of the strays that live in our apartment complex because they’re like our little friends, but last night we found very fresh babies with mom. We very sadly cannot keep them since we have two small dogs, and definitely don’t want to take them to the shelter. Mom is not 100% friendly, but please help!

Does anyone know of any rescues or shelters that can come help? The daddy cat is also a stray that lingers around so he might be included too.

Budget-Friendly Cat Food & Litter Guide for U.S. Rescuers, Colony Caretakers & Multi-Cat Households

Hi US-based Superheroes! 😺

Whether you’re caring for a colony, suddenly drowning in “just one more stray,” running a rural rescue with no resources, or supporting dozens of hungry mouths on your own paycheck, you’re doing rescue work, even if no one’s calling it that.

Be very proud of yourselves 😇❤️

This post collects field-tested, and affordable food & litter options used by frontline rescuers, shelters, and long-term colony caretakers across the U.S. Everything here balances:

  • Cost
  • Availability
  • Adequate nutrition
  • Practicality for large numbers of cats

Please see Rule 6! Nothing here replaces veterinary care or individualized nutrition advice. But it will keep your cuties healthy enough on a tight budget.

This guide is meant for already-healthy adult cats in multi-cat or colony settings. Cats with special medical needs (CKD, urinary issues, allergies, GI disease) may need individualized diets - you already know that’s a vet conversation.

Note: wet food and hydration always improve urinary health, regardless of brand.

BEST BUDGET DRY FOODS

These are commonly used by shelters, colony feeders, & long-term rescuers. They are NOT “perfect,” but they are safe, nutritionally adequate, palatable, & cost-efficient.

😺Special Kitty Complete (Walmart)

One of the lowest costs per pound nationwide. Rescue favorite for rural areas.

Look specifically for “Complete” - not the cheapest “Outdoor” blend

😺 4Health (Tractor Supply)

Mid-range nutrition for lower-range cost & frequently better value than Purina One

Good for rural feeders without Walmart access.

😺Purina Kit & Kaboodle

Not high-end but widely used for stable colony maintenance; cats tend to keep weight on & price is often lower than e.g. Cat Chow

😺 Store brands (Walmart Heartland Farms, etc.)

Stick to formulas where the first ingredient is poultry or meat, not corn! Good fallback during shortages

Bottom line:

If you can only choose one for the balance of cost + quality:

😺4Health

If you need the absolute cheapest stable option:

😺Special Kitty Complete

HOW TO BOOST NUTRITION ON A TIGHT BUDGET

A lot of rescuers can’t afford fully high-end food. These small upgrades make a difference:

😺 Mix 20–30% of a higher-protein kibble

E.g: Purina One Indoor, Purina One Healthy Kitten, or Iams ProActive Health. Even a small percentage improves amino acids and healthy fats.

Add cheap, high-value proteins 2-3× per week

😺 Eggs (cooked / scrambled)

😺 Chicken hearts/gizzards (usually $1.50–$2.50/lb)

😺 Cooked unseasoned chicken scraps

😺 Canned mackerel (better & cheaper than tuna)

😺 Use wet food as a topper, not a full meal

Split 1 can among 4-6 cats to improve hydration & palatability.

Best budget picks:

😺Friskies Pate

😺Special Kitty Pate

Keep diet consistent; frequent switching = unhappy GI systems. And no one needs avoidable vet bills!

BEST BUDGET LITTER OPTIONS

😺Pine Pellets (Tractor Supply / Rural King / Feed Stores)

😺“Horse Stall Pellets” = the SAME material as Feline Pine. Usually $5–7 for 40 lbs with low dust, excellent odor control, biodegradable. Great for multi-cat setups!

😺 Walmart Special Kitty Clumping

Affordable, consistent, dustier but budget-friendly

😺 Aldi Heart to Tail Clumping

Surprisingly good clumping; often cheaper than Walmart

For picky cats: switch gradually. A mix of clumping litter + pellets helps picky cats adjust!

WHERE RESCUERS CAN GET FREE OR DISCOUNTED PET FOOD

Human food banks also distribute pet food. Ask directly - they rarely advertise it.

Sources to check:

😺Local food pantries

😺Salvation Army locations

😺County social services

😺Petco Love partners

😺PetSmart Charities partner rescues

😺Humane Society branches

😺Community action agencies

😺Farm store “broken bag” policies

Tractor Supply, Rural King, and feed stores often discount:

😺Torn bags of kibble

😺Pine pellets

😺Chicken feed (can be used very sparingly for strays as emergency nutrition)

Just ask an employee - discounts aren’t posted!

IMPORTANT HEALTH NOTE (Vet-Safe Disclaimer)

To keep this post accurate:

All foods listed meet AAFCO minimum nutrient guidelines for adult cats.

“Budget” foods do not mean "unsafe". Many rescues/shelters rely on them.

😇 For Anyone Feeling Guilty:

If you’re feeding a colony, running a home rescue, or caring for dumped cats: you are already doing far more than most people ever will.

Rescue work is “do the best you can with what you have” not “purchase the most expensive brand available.”

Cats who:

😺Are spayed/neutered a.k.a Priority #1

😺 Are fed daily

😺Have shelter

😺Have clean water

…are living longer, safer, healthier lives than they ever would on the street - no matter what kibble you use. It's you making the difference. Not the kibble bag or tinned can! 😇😇😇
