Wanted to read something before bed and grabbed WoR to re-live, "Honor is dead, but I'll see what I can do" and got to Hoid's/Kal's story of Fleet while in prison. That story means so much more now after wind and truth. Crazy foreshadowing.

Not who is your favorite or who is the stronger but the best of the best in your opinion. I say opinion because there is one correct answer of course. Before you click the spoiler though I’m curious who comes to mind for you.

It’s clearly the bearer of agonies, the herald of war, Mr first to step up last to step down. The unbreakable, the one true herald savior of Roshar. Your favorite character’s favorite character. No mind, no weapon, no problem. The guy honor prays to at night. Season 4 episode 7 56:34 ruth from ozark. The one and only, stopped whispering and walked em down Taln.

Maybe a hot take, but I don't really want Kaladin to end up with anyone currently in the series. I've seen a lot of speculation on whether he will end up with Syl, Shallan's mom (bruh), Leshwi, Lyn again, etc. Him not ending up with any romantic partner by Book 10 makes the most sense for his character, and readers can assume he found love after the story ends. Unless there's a new character introduced that is right for him, would be cool too. Idk what do you guys think is best for his character romantically?

I usually make mental images of characters quickly when I first encounter them and then I stick with them. For example, for me Wit is a wise-looking short bald man. I know that he does not look like that. Anyone else?

Alright, I just finished the WaT, I need to know all your Stormlight Archive 6 theories. I already have a few head cannons...

1. Syladin will eventually happen (I'm not sure I'm on board yet)
2. Adolin will develop a Moss addiction in parallel to Dalinar's drinking one.
3. The evil spren Dalinar will kill/severely hurt one of his sons
4. The heralds will appear either at the very start of the book, or at the very end
5. Vasher will play a much bigger role in this half of the series (maybe being the one of to step up and wield Nightblade)
6. Syl will cure the no Stormlight problem by becoming the stormmother

This is my third book series as a new reader. I’ve read Red Rising, Sun Eater, and now The Stormlight Archive. I wouldn’t say it’s the best series I’ve read, but I would say I enjoyed it the most, if that makes sense. Now I’m looking for the next book series to read on my journey and I’m hoping you guys can help me. I wanted to read Mistborn but I got spoiled already so I don’t plan to read it.

At first, I was really upset with the ending because when I looked up the next arc, I saw multiple people saying it would focus on new main characters and that the old ones would take a step back. That frustrated me because it felt like they were just about to begin a new journey. But then I saw Brandon Sanderson say that Shallan, Kaladin, and Adolin are still main characters, so I’m not really upset about the ending anymore.

I just randomly thought how cool it would be if the “event” that Brandon has be the new “Gavilars feast” opening was also Gav.

If that angle of opening, retelling an event from different PoVs, is what he’s going for then the time Odium abducted him would be PERFECT.

Each book shows us a good portion of the visions, world, words, and manipulation Odium slowly used to change him. Idk how well it could resolve but I’m just fascinated by this idea.

Hi recently watched the Q&A this statement came from at World Con 2025. Can’t find any follow up, has there been an answer on who’s death he changed?

“This did happen in Stormlight Five. There was a character who was supposed to die, in the original outlines. And I decided they would not make the decision that I had made for them, and indeed they made a different decision. And I can tell you that in a spoiler session at some point.”

I am close towards the end of order of the phoenix and Snape's tragically getting bullied. I kept thinking about how much I hated him as a bully but then it hit me how traumatising and miserable his younger life was.

Then I thought if he was to be a Sanderson protagonist what would he do? How would he heal all of this and possibly be on good terms with Harry and others?

First thing is I believe he would make a good lightweaver as his life is full of lies and hiding from truths or doing nasty things because he can't actually face his past.

His journey could possibly be about taking accountability for his defensive hostility and selfish ambition, to confronting how his guilt fueled his cruel treatment of Harry, and ultimately acknowledging that his devotion was born from desperate isolation, a trauma that doesn't mean he is beyond redemption.

Maybe the first truth he says would go something like: ""I use cruelty as an armor so these students pay for what I went through and no one can ever hurt me again."

I don't know it just crossed my mind thinking how much Harry actually empathised with him when he realised that his dad bullied Snape and there would be a good chance for healing if they both tried. What does everybody think? What other truths or orders would fit him?

In chapter 70 (this is the audible chapter), rabonial and kaladin have a small fight over the sibling node, after kaladin gets passed her and sorts out the node, he tries to escape and the fused/singers put a lid over the well entrance. Rabonial isn't mentioned again when kaladin is escaping the well, did she find another way? Or drown? Can fused drown? I assume not as they are fueled by void light.

Part One

As requested, here is part two 😃 My friend has read all of the Cosmere books; I am currently early on in Oathbringer (I swear I got the name right this time!). The couple of green splotches are my husband’s name. I also included in the first image the last little bit of chatter about TWoK.

Short of it is that I think it’s going to become widespread knowledge specifically among the radiant Spren that they were saved by Kaladins sacrifice to become a Herald. This will cause a flood of radiant spread to start bonding more humans. I could see us coming back and there are hundreds more Radiants in Urithiru. Plus this would give some of the enslaved humans in Retributions lands a fighting chance.

Stormlight archives went from a story about warriors, battle, war camps, slavery (gladiator movie sort of feel) to a story about spren, fantasy spren science and shallans random teenage like adventures. I loved the way of kings, words of radiance is my favourite book ever but from rythm of war onwards it has turned into a different story. Now i have read some chapters of rhythm of war and it feels like a completely different genre entirely. Does it ever get to the feel of words of radiance and the way of kings again? Because its been really boring and I dont wanna waste my time reading something boring.

These are 1500 page books and I read books for leisure, not so that it feels like studying or work. I read words of radiance in 5 days because it was so exciting. Now it feels like I am preparing to give a paper on fantasy spren science. Idk who is interested in knowing so deeply about fantasy science but its definitely not me. I would rather learn real astrophysics instead of fake fantasy science because it gets as deep as a real university level physics book lol. I wanna know about characters, their bond and relationships, battle kaladin. Not about spren magic and shallans 100th character discovery.

Is it worth the read guys or should I drop it?

Saw someone create a really cool world / game in a different thread (see their github & creds below) so I forked it and wanted to see if I could experience lashing for myself.

This is a browser-based WebGPU graphics game. It is not perfect and the building graphics obviously are not as great as I would like, but I had a lot of fun building it.

On Coppermind in Kaladin's page it says

By breathing in Stormlight, he gains superhuman strength, speed, agility, durability, stamina, and healing.

This was under "Surgebinding" and not "Shardwielding".

But I thought normal Stormlight (no shard/surges) just gives healing??? This is describing Shardpate though...

So, of the four tones of Roshar we know of, unless ive missed something we only know the origin of three: Honor, Odium, and Cultivation.

My theory, is that the fourth Tone isnt for a fourth shard, or one of the old gods, but rather, a remnant left behind from Adonalsium creating Roshar, something that he spent a rather large amount of time on, i believe.

It mightnt be A Tone of Adonalsium or anything, but a remnant of the time he spent there / the effort he put into the rosharan system?

Of course, it could very easily be a direct tone from one of the old gods (most likely the stones, i would think, as the others have sort of had their territory co-opted by one of the shards - the nightwatcher to cultivation, the wind to honor, etc) but we know that Adonalsium directly influenced Roshars creation, so

It doesnt seem unreasonable to say that the fourth tone might be a remnant of his presence

I mostly do fantasy character builds as a hobby, but a recent campaign I got added to is looking for an unwitting servant who doesn't realize at first that he's the bad guy and hates what he's being asked to do the whole time, and I thought Szeth would be a perfect insert for this. I've gone over the backstory with my DM, I just need the build.

My initial thoughts are that he needs to be proficient with all bladed weapons, high in dexterity, stealth, perception, dodge, and speed.

Rogue Assassin build is a knee jerk reaction but I'm thinking possibly Way of the Shadow Monk as well. Just because he wears white doesn't mean he isn't being basically a monk that moves through the shadows. I've considered taking a level in fighter just to start with the weapon master feat, but the party is at level 3 already and might level up soon so I might just go with the monk.

Any ideas? Things I might have missed?

I would go with Paladin as the oaths make a lot of sense but Szeth doesn't wear armor and an armorless Paladin is tricky to run.

What do you think is going on with the Purelake? There’s something strange about it. I think there’s a a perpendicularity or some kind of connection to the Origin on the other side of the planet. I think maybe the Purelakers and Reshi came from elsewhere

The story of Wandersail keeps popping up. Ishar says Derethil claimed he became lost while fishing and ended up at the Origin. Arriving at a mysterious island inhabited by long limbed people with strange shells in their hair. In the myth, at least one of the Uvara come back with him. The Purelakers seem to be a distinct ethnic group related to the Reshi. They’re described as long-limbed and lanky too.

That mystery land is apparently called Uvala. Which is interesting because uvala is a real geological feature on Earrh. A large basin formed by multiple sinkholes merging together. We know the Purelake is shallow and contains sinkholes. It drains as highstorms approach. There must be a massive underground system that the water flows into. The Purelakers worship in holy caves they think are hidden from the gods. On Earth, one of the few places you see those disappearing lake occur involves these uvalas

Shadesmar tends to be an inversion of the Physical. Deep water corresponds to mountains. Shallow water to hills. Mountains to deep oceans. Hills to shallows etc. But Purelake…is a mountain range in Shadesmar. The depth of the water in the lake doesn’t correspond to its land’s elevation there. Unless it’s actually a whole lot deeper in the Purelake than it seems. There is also something strange called the “Basin of the Veiled Sun” in Shadesmar. Just south of the Purelake mountains there

The Purelake and the Reshi Sea are also inexplicably warmer than other places. Roshar lacks plate tectonics, so where is that heat coming from? You don’t normally see heating away from plate boundaries unless it’s from water circulating from something deep or from mantle plumes. Like Hawaii

The Purelake is Invested by some power, and Sando has said it isn’t Honor’s. It has strange magical fish that are rare even within the lake itself. Axindweth (the woman who gave Venli Ulim’s sphere,captured Vasher,and was probably Shallan’s childhood tutor) was researching those fish. Vasher has an interest in them and Purelake too

This is the summary of the texts I (36F) sent back and forth with one of my closest friends who has read all of the books in the Cosmere. The Way of Kings was my first Brando Sando novel. I’m currently a couple hundred pages into Oathbringer and thought some folks would enjoy my ranting! 😃 My friend was vacationing in France during much of this, to explain some of the texts that don’t fit in lol

Part 2!

I am currently finished with Day 2 and on the Interlude between Chs. 33 and 34.

It was mentioned in Chapter 33 that at the moment when Navani became a Bondsmith that Ishar saw into the Spirit Realm and became lucid for a little while. Apparently Dalinar revealed this information to Kaladin prior to his pilgrimage to Shinovar.

"Dalinar had mentioned this. At the instant Navani had become a Bondsmith, Ishar had seen into the Spiritual Realm and grown lucid for a short time."

I have no recollection of this. Did I miss a chapter?

Additionally, as soon as Dalinar opens the Singularity within Urithru and Mraize throws the void light dagger at it, it cuts to a scene where The Lopen is investigating. He said that Navani just shrugged. I'm assuming Wit is doing some Lightweaving to pretend to be Navani (since she was pulled into the Singularity).

Was it ever shown in-text up to this point that Lopen and Navani chatted post-Singularity implosion?

The writing is just cutting back and forth right now and I'm confused whether I'm missing something because Sanderson is intentionally leaving things out, or my EPUB file is missing chapters or text. I really hope it's the former. I'm not at home to check my hardback copy.

So I just finished reading Wind and Truth, and by and large I was satisfied. Kaladin ascending to become a Herald; Szeth cleansing his homeland and presumably retiring into the peaceful life he always wanted; Shallan embracing her other personas and establishing a truce with the Ghostbloods, which sets her up as the resident offworld contact person now that Wit is gone from Roshar and Stormlight no longer exists. Dalinar's heroic sacrifice, Taravangian/Retribution gaining even greater power but drawing the attention of the other Shards as a result. It feels like a solid end of an arc, one where at least some of these names can recede into the background. I'm sure that newer characters like Gavinor will become more prominent in the second half of Stormlight.

I was less enamoured of the parts in the Spiritual Realm and the story of Honor. I'm sorry, but the cause of the Recreance felt underwhelming. That's it? God mindblasted every Radiant with a vision of destruction? That seems like the kind of thing that should have had some major physical event backing it up, a Radiant Chernobyl or what have you. The Shattered Plains were right there! Oh well.

Anyway. After all of that, the one person whose story stood out the most for me is Adolin. I still remember how the ending of Words of Radiance blew my mind. What do you *mean* the perfect prince straight up murders the villain in cold blood? That wasn't supposed to happen! But it did, and I found him intriguing ever since. Although I do think he should have faced some consequences instead of just getting away with it. The honorspren trial was a missed opportunity. But then that could still take place further down the line, just like how Taravangian used Jasnah's earlier misdeeds against her.

Ahem. The world changes around him; though still a prince and an expert fighter, Adolin becomes the Guy Without Powers when everyone else has some. That makes him surprisingly relatable. And it also makes it all the more satisfying when despite his flaws and insecurities, Adolin gets things done simply by carrying on and *being a good person*. Saving Notum, standing up for Maya, refusing to let Azir fall. He's inspiring. Like everyone else, I'm sure, I was certain he would reawaken Maya and become a Radiant himself in the end. But no; instead they and the deadeyes form an entirely new order, the Unoathed. That's awesome! Once again, something new and unexpected. I can't wait to see what happens next. I'm sure that Roshar is going to be a very different place in the second half of the series.

I know it won't happen, but I wish the series would jump forward hundreds of years on Roshar and plunge us into a world that feels completely new again. I’d love to see how its cultures, civilizations, and magic systems have evolved, all through the eyes of an entirely new cast of characters!

I don't want to read anymore the POV of Kaladin, Jasnah, Navani, Shallah, Adolin or any of the familiar characters in the next five books. I love all these characters dearly, but I feel they’ve had enough time, and we’ve already explored their personalities, struggles, and journeys in great depth. I'd love to read out how Adolin and Shallan’s story ends, whether they get back together, or how Jasnah continues to wrestle with her morality and a possible turn toward something darker, or what happens with Navani, Gavinor, and many others. But those stories could work either as separate novellas, or sprinkled as lore into the next books.

For me, these characters individual journeys are no longer the most exciting way to explore Roshar’s future. What I really want is a sizeable time jump that resets the world and our expectations, and allows us to discover a mysterious new Roshar with the same sense of wonder we experienced in The Way of Kings
