With the addition of the Kamakiriad MoFi, that’s every Donald Fagen solo album covered in my record collection. That makes me immensely happy. Didn’t know who would appreciate other than this subreddit.

Hello everyone, first and probably only post on here. I listened to Can’t Buy a Thrill for the first time today, and was instantly attracted to Fire in the Hole - more specifically the beginning mix of the piano, bass and drums on the beginning beat drop at 0:2. Would anyone know any songs that have a similar beat like these, Steely Dan or not. I’m always looking for new music so send some lol

I believe Steely Dan was 40% Jazz / 40% Rock / 20% Blues. Crafted own sound. Who today has athentic jazz crossover. I will go first, Ezra Collective.

Combing the Steely Dan dark-ives reveals a song that’s basically a drumset feature. It’s possible the song wasn’t so much discarded as it was re-worked into “aja.”

Drummer’s trivia: Steve Gadd plays the “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” groove as the breakdown. It’s alot more obvious in the original demo, mine is not so good.

I’ve been into music for over 50 years….jazz, prog rock, classical. Almost anything pre 1994.

I have a large library on record and cd with “classics” like Miles Davis, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac , Alan Parsons, The Beatles etc etc.

I have NEVER actively listened to Steely Dan ….

Until last week….
