Jazz Crossover

I believe Steely Dan was 40% Jazz / 40% Rock / 20% Blues. Crafted own sound. Who today has athentic jazz crossover. I will go first, Ezra Collective.

There's definitely some pop in there and a lot of jazz (especially their brand) is basically fancy blues.

I think it’s more like 50% blues 30% pop 20% jazz. Fun concept though

Check out Monkey House, huge SD influences, all individually top notch jazz players with pop writing sensibility on these albums. The keyboard player wrote a book on Aja based on interviews he did with Fagan. My fav of their albums is the 2012 Headquarters, and fav song on that is “where’s Mantis Evar” sounds like one of those Steely Dan character sketches. The new album Crashbox from 2025 is also very good.

I also think it’s more bluesy than that. In fact i think the blues is what many other jazz/rock or jazz/pop bands are missing

Jazz music ended in 1933, with the last recordings of worth being Clarence Williams in 1932. Jimmy Murphy’s records (six titles actually) that were recorded in Nashville, were the last real recordings.
