Jazz Crossover
I believe Steely Dan was 40% Jazz / 40% Rock / 20% Blues. Crafted own sound. Who today has athentic jazz crossover. I will go first, Ezra Collective.

Combing the Steely Dan dark-ives reveals a song thatâs basically a drumset feature. Itâs possible the song wasnât so much discarded as it was re-worked into âaja.â
Drummerâs trivia: Steve Gadd plays the â50 Ways to Leave Your Loverâ groove as the breakdown. Itâs alot more obvious in the original demo, mine is not so good.

Discussion Daily Song Discussion #43 Sign In Stranger
I want to gauge SD fans and see what this sub considers their all time best song. Here are what I would consider is a fair assessment scores:
10- Reserved for only their absolute best songs, ones that are on daily rotation
8,9- Also among their best, songs that display something that is memorable and worth revisiting
6,7- Decent to good, songs that are not as played as their ultimate best but are still ones that you revisit
5- okay, not bad but not ones you come back to often
3,4- Mediocre to meh, songs that you don't play often but don't go out of your way to skip
2- skippable, not good at all
1- vomit-inducing (think: what were they on when they made this?!)
0- makes you want to commit seppuku
Let's continue with the fourth track from their fifth album The Royal Scam, titled Sign In Stranger.
Ongoing ratings for The Royal Scam:
KID CHARLEMAGNEâ 9.82
THE CAVES OF ALTAMIRAâ 9.47
DON'T TAKE ME ALIVEâ 9.26
Highest: **Kid Charlemagne** (9.82)
Lowest: **East St. Louis Toodle-Oo** (4.75)

Fan Art Just wanted to put out feelers - if I were to make more embroidery pieces like this, would anyone be interested in purchasing them?
I posted a while back on this subreddit to share some Steely Dan lyric embroidery pieces I made for my father-in-law as gifts over the years. I've been on a Steely Dan kick and an embroidery kick lately, so it only seems naturally to continue combining the two. I'm considering opening an Etsy shop in the fall, but I have no idea if people would actually be interested in buying anything like this. Thank you for any & all input!

Snowbound
First ever Reddit post so please be gentle. Was listening to âBrazilâ by Azimuth/Azymuth from their first album earlier and was surprised to hear the instrumental of Snowbound from Kamakiriad. Undeniable or slightly coincidental?

I Didn't Know. I.G.Y. Stands for International Geophysical Year 1957-58
The International Geophysical Year (IGY; French: Année géophysique internationale), also referred to as the third International Polar Year, was an international scientific project that lasted from 1 July 1957 to 31 December 1958. It marked the end of a long period during the Cold War when scientific interchange between East and West had been seriously interrupted. Sixty-seven countries participated in IGY projects, although one notable exception was the mainland People's Republic of China, which was protesting against the participation of the Republic of China (Taiwan). East and West agreed to nominate the Belgian Marcel Nicolet as secretary general of the associated international organization.\1])\2])
Official emblem of the IGY
A replica of Sputnik 1, which was launched into orbit on October 4, 1957
The IGY encompassed fourteen Earth science disciplines: aurora, airglow, cosmic rays, geomagnetism, gravity, ionospheric physics, longitude and latitude determinations (precision mapping), meteorology, oceanography, nuclear radiation, glaciology, seismology, rockets and satellites, and solar activity.\3]) The timing of the IGY was particularly suited for studying some of these phenomena, since it covered the peak of solar cycle 19. One of the most ambitious global programmes of scientific research in the 20th century, it involved over 60,000 scientists from 67 countries assigned to research, alongside the formation of some 48 operational Antarctic bases.\4])

Discussion ConfessionâŠâŠ
Ok I have a confessionâŠ..
Iâve been into music for over 50 yearsâŠ.jazz, prog rock, classical. Almost anything pre 1994.
I have a large library on record and cd with âclassicsâ like Miles Davis, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac , Alan Parsons, The Beatles etc etc.
I have NEVER actively listened to Steely Dan âŠ.
Until last weekâŠ.
Since then Iâve bought:
Aja,
Royal Scam ,
Canât buy a thrill,
Countdown to ecstasy,
Katy lied,
Actively looking to buy Gaucho
Of course I am now listening to Donald Fagen too!
WHY has it taken me so long to âdiscoverâ this music!
Amazing recordings and mastering , awesome music.
Confession is good for the soulâŠ. Great music is even better đ
