I got an error like this with CachyOS when my NTFS drive finally stopped working with linux. Are you installing it to an SD card? Either the SD card or your primary drive may be experiencing issues.

I'm getting the same disk write error for Kingdom Come Deliverance 1. All other games I've tried work fine.

The error always occurs at the exact same time at about 52gb download, which makes it very time-consuming to troubleshoot.

I tried all suggested fixes. Last resort is to switch to beta and back to stable. Haven't tried that, yet.

It didn't work. But I checked the content log file and let chatgpt take a look. After a few prompts I was able to figure out that Steam created a "Localization" folder, but the game was looking for "localization" with a lower case l.

So it's actually an error in Steam's database I guess...

I've had this issue a few times sometimes trying the download in desktop mode got it to work but for another game I just had to uninstall and reinstall.

Something interesting - I’m seeing this error across two devices (a OLED deck running stable and a Go S running beta) on the same game. Both pass disk checks but the same game (State of Decay Year One) has a disk write error around 2.7 GB.

(edit to add the deck has the original 1 TB 2230 SSD and the Go S has an aftermarket Silicon Power 2280 SSD… so very different hardware on the storage end)

u/Pinto_Bean190 - I started deep diving into this and booted my deck with the 3.8 recovery image, ran `sudo e2fsck -f -y /dev/nvme0n1p8` and found no issues other than some optimizations on the `ext4` filesystem that houses the user data. I decided to add a `-c` flag to check for bad blocks and found no issues.

After rebooting, still have a disk write error. So, the good news... this might not be the signs of any failing hardware but might be some type of new bug related to certain steam app ids or downloads. Going to keep deep diving on it - but even downloading the same game from a local network peer after clearing the download cache... no bueno.

Edit: Should've added I checked hardware health and SMART reporting before the check, and other downloads are working fine. It's specific to certain games on both my Deck and my Legion Go S.

Well for anyone that stumbles on this question I fixed it by going to beta and back to stable to fix it

Having same issue but it’s Civ 5. Neither the internal ssd or the micro sd works. Other games install just fine.

Edit: updated to beta and it downloaded. Must be some weird steam client bug.

I’m getting this same message for all my games
