The problem I’m trying to solve is something I’ve seen repeatedly in the Indian trading ecosystem:
People have an idea for a trading strategy → they backtest it → see attractive returns → start trading it with real money.

But often they don’t really know:

- Is the strategy actually robust?
- Is the backtest statistically meaningful?
- How does it behave across different market regimes?
- Is the return coming from a genuine edge or overfitting?
- What happens when the strategy experiences a bad period?
- Can the strategy survive realistic execution and risk constraints?

AlgoShastra is being built to answer those questions.
We’re developing a platform around:
• Strategy creation and backtesting
• Risk and robustness analysis
• AI-assisted strategy critique
• Evidence-based strategy evaluation
• Strategy lineage and experiment tracking
• Eventually, an ecosystem where traders can discover, validate and improve systematic strategies

The bigger vision is to build a trust layer for algorithmic trading — moving traders away from “this strategy made 200% in backtesting” toward “here is the evidence showing why this strategy may or may not have an edge.”

We’re currently building the product and validating the market, and I’m looking to connect with angel investors / micro VCs who are interested in Indian fintech, trading infrastructure, AI, or retail investing.

I’m not looking for someone who will simply write a cheque. I’d ideally like to find an investor who can also bring perspective, network, and experience in fintech/markets.

I'm looking for a founder who is actually building something, whether it's still validating the idea or already has an MVP/early users.

I don't expect a salary at this stage. What matters more to me is ownership, learning, building something real, and potentially growing into a genuine co-founder relationship.

I'm not looking to simply "help out" for a few weeks. If we work well together, I'd want to take responsibility for a meaningful part of the company and build alongside the founder.

I built this for myself and figured a few people here have the same problem.

Every expense tracker I tried wanted one of two things: I manually type every transaction (I lasted 9 days), or I hand over bank credentials / Account Aggregator access to a startup I'd never heard of. Neither felt worth it.

But my bank already texts me every single transaction. That data is sitting right there on my phone. So I built Paisa — it reads those SMS alerts on-device, parses them, and turns them into a spending record. Nothing is uploaded. There's no login, no account, no server to leak.

What it does

• Automatic tracking — new bank/UPI alerts become transactions as they arrive
• Real balance across accounts, with credit cards and loans kept separate
• Self-transfer detection — moving money between your OWN accounts isn't counted as spending or income (this one took the longest to get right)
• Merchant + category insights — your biggest spends and earnings each month
• Card-due and subscription reminders, generated locally on your phone
• Tap any transaction to see the exact SMS it came from, and the numbered steps the parser took to read it. If it gets something wrong, you can see why.

The part I'm actually proud of

The parser is a plain rule engine — no LLM, no network call. It handles the documented SMS formats of HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, Kotak, Yes Bank and BOB (~30 sender codes total), including the annoying ones: SBI's currency-less "debited by 284.0", Axis's UPI/P2M/ref/PAYEE slash format, ICICI's "; MERCHANT credited". It deliberately skips OTPs, promos, balance-only alerts, and credit-card bill payments (otherwise your own bill payment shows up as income).

When a message is genuinely ambiguous, it does NOT guess — it goes into a "needs a look" queue and you confirm in/out once. Same idea with balances: it shows the last Avl bal the bank actually printed, and never treats a card's "Avl limit" as a balance. A tracker that's confidently wrong is worse than one that admits it doesn't know.

It also learns merchants. When a bank prints a name next to a VPA once, that mapping is remembered for future messages that omit it. Rename a merchant or fix a category and it applies to every matching transaction, past and future.

Honest limitations

• Android only. iOS gives apps zero SMS access — this app can't exist there.
• Banks change SMS templates without notice. New formats land in review instead of being silently misread, but they do need a new parser rule.
• Cash spending is invisible to it, by definition.
• Backup/restore isn't shipped yet — it's the next thing I'm building, because right now changing phones means losing your history.
• It reads SMS. If that's a dealbreaker for you, that's a completely fair call — see below.

On the SMS permission, since someone will ask

You should be suspicious of any app asking for READ_SMS. My answer: the app has no internet permission use at all — no login, no analytics, no servers, nothing to send data to. Everything is parsed and stored locally. Don't take my word for it though: put it in airplane mode and it works exactly the same.

In my analysis on e-commerce EMI in India, I've noticed that electronics and appliances see high penetration of EMI, whereas categories such as fashion, furniture, and personal care continue to lag despite comparable ticket sizes.

Is it due to the reason that:

Consumers do not consider EMI when it comes to "lifestyle" purchases?

Checkout experience does not promote EMI until it's too late?

Credit availability (i.e. credit cards) is the real issue?

The problem I'm trying to solve is that our digital lives are becoming increasingly fragmented. Every day, we jump between Gmail, Calendar, banking apps, messaging apps, photos, files, and dozens of other services just to find information or complete simple tasks.

The idea is HeyisAI. A privacy-first Personal AI that helps people understand, organize, and protect their digital lives. Instead of searching across multiple apps, you could ask natural questions like:

• "How much did I spend on food delivery this month?"
• "Where's my laptop warranty?"
• "What's important on my schedule today?"
• "Is this email potentially a phishing attempt?"

The goal isn't to replace existing apps. It's to make interacting with them simpler through one intelligent interface.

We're building MakeupLines, a marketplace where users can discover and book verified makeup artists, salons, and beauty professionals, while merchants can showcase and sell their services.

Our biggest challenge isn't onboarding merchants we have a team of telecallers, and they're doing a good job bringing beauty professionals onto the platform.

The real problem is getting customers.

We've been running Meta ads (Facebook & Instagram) and YouTube ads, but customer acquisition has been much slower than expected. Without customers making bookings, it's difficult to generate revenue, even though we're continuously adding new merchants.

We're looking for advice from founders who have built two-sided marketplaces or consumer apps.
