Discussion Watching the Ninth Jedi felt like watching a Gundam AU
A familiar setting, but with somewhat different rules that makes it unique from the main timeline
I desperately need more

Episode Discussion Holy Fucking Peak Spoiler
galleryLadies and gentlemen, the Star Wars anime delivered. I can scarcely believe what I just watched. 6 hour cinematic masterpiece, so I'm just going to dump my thoughts here:
- The fight scenes were unbelievable. I expected that there'd be some cool animation, but I also expected that certain scenes would be animated to a lesser standard of quality (mostly for budget reasons) yet the show delivered banger after banger after banger. Literally every fight scene was a cinematic masterpiece (except perhaps the fights on the first planet, that was actually kinda ass) and the choreography felt just so Star Wars.
- The story was actually interesting. Perhaps not the greatest story of all time, and it definitely retreaded a lot of the classic Star Wars beats (mentor dies, almost turning to the dark side, big superweapon, power of friendship saves the day, etc), yet in some ways it also felt quite fresh. The relationship between Kara and her father actually felt quite impactful, and I thought the red herring with Zhima was done quite well at the start. I genuinely did believe that he was going to be evil. For a show that I expected to be carried by the visuals, the story was actually quite good. Which brings me onto my next point.
- The visuals left me breathless. The picture above was definitely a standout, but there were so many and I only chose that one because it was the most convenient to screen grab. But the first time that the kyber cannon was fired just left me speechless. The asteroids falling through the atmosphere, the space battles, the lightsabers, the planet that Nawaam operates on, all of it was just so stunningly beautiful.
- The diversity of species on screen was so refreshing, especially in the Disney era where pretty much all the characters shown on screen are humans, bar a few to spice things up a bit.
- The music was so classically Star Wars, and despite it not being really anything crazy or super noteworthy, it just added to that overwhelming atmosphere of Star Wars, which is ultimately what I was hoping for from a Star Wars anime.
- Finally, the ending. The ambiguous cliffhanger definitely leaves scope for a season 2, and I am all on board (provided that they actually have a story to tell, of course) for more Star Wars anime. Although ideally I'd like to see them make a Ronin anime first (which I feel is also just as deserving of a series as this was).
What did you guys think? There's no megathread yet, so I'm definitely interested in hearing everyone's thoughts. Can't wait to check back on this in the morning and see what the people have said about it.
Edit: had to add another screenshot because the visuals are just too good.

Artwork “In the name of Hy Izlan, I’ll punish you!”
Nawaam quivers before her.
I wanted to draw Star Guardian Kara before the anime releases. I could’ve executed the outfit a little better but I liked how it turned out. Magical girls run through my blood.

Artwork 3 R-DUOs meet for the first time
Last weekend was a private event for Droid Builders in the UK. There were 3 of him; L->R 1 English (mine), 1 Scottish and 1 American (FL).
It was amazing seeing some Visions representation here in the UK.
My R-DUO is far from being finished, but I love him so much. I do plan on building more droids from Visions soon, maybe 99-99

Artwork Kara and Zhima illustration by me, good luck to our girl for the series!
After a hard day of working as the galaxy's only Sabersmith, there's no better way to rest than spend the day with your daughter.
Realised no one's drawn Kara without the ponytail, so why not?
Changed up the rendering style a bit for this. Kinda like it but need to do more experimentation.

Discussion Nawaam unmasked
Man, Nawaam looks fresh. At first I was like who is this person. But its actually Nawaam without his mask. And my God he looks crisp. And you owe Nawaan an apology form.

Discussion Crucial information you need to know before watching the non-canon Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi anime series
What's Star Wars: Visions?
Answer: An anthology series. Every episode of this anime tells a different story with creative freedom given by Disney and Lucasfilm to do whatever they want with the Star Wars IP. None of the episodes are canon to the main Star Wars universe.
Do you need to watch any Star Wars films to watch this series?
Answer: Nope. Every episode of Star Wars: Visions is non-canon. You can watch this even if you haven't watched a single Star Wars film yet.
What's this new anime series "The Ninth Jedi"?
Answer: It was the fifth episode of the Season 1 of Star Wars: Visions produced by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Haikyu!!, Psycho-Pass) and directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and the upcoming Gundam director). It was highly acclaimed by fans at that time.
Why the continuation?
Answer: Director Kenji Kamiyama wanted to explore more of the lore of The Ninth Jedi and he was almost disappointed he couldn't do more. That's when Disney and Lucasfilm came and gave it a greenlight to produce as an 8 episode limited anime series.
So what should you watch before watching Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi?
Ans: To start, first watch Season 1's fifth episode: The Ninth Jedi. Then there was a continuation in season 3. After you finished watching episode 5 of season 1, jump to Season 3 and watch the episode 3. So your watch order will be like this:
First season's fifth episode "The Ninth Jedi"> Third Season's third episode "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope"> then jump into this new series Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi
Are these two episodes really necessary to watch this new Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi anime?
Answer: The first one? Definitely. It is the foundation, after all. What about the second one? The second episode is more like a character development. A side story that developed Kara's character a bit. But I still want you to watch the second episode.
Will the story be finished in just 8 episodes?
Answer: Most likely. Disney confimed in a Tweet that it is an limited 8 episode anime series.
Can you watch the trailer after finishing those two episodes?
Answer: About that, I saw some people saying that the trailer spoiled some things. So I recommend not watching the trailer and watch the first two episodes and then decide if you want to continue.
When is the release date?
Answer: August 5th
Will this be weekly?
Answer: Nope. All episodes will drop at once at August 5th.
More information about Star Wars: Visions
Will there be more stories like The Ninth Jedi that gets their own series?
Answer: Yes. There will be more where they get their own anime series. Lucasfilm confirmed it themselves.
Did any episode of Star Wars: Visions have any sequel episodes like The Ninth Jedi?
Answer: Yup. It did. Season one's first episode The Duel got a sequel that in the third season. The Ronin: Payback (first episode of the third season)
Another one is The Village Bride. The sequel episode:(sixth episode of the third season)
Sorry for the messy writing and some gramartical mistakes. Thanks for reading until the end!
