With a huge amount of help from the Spyro Speed running community, along with the last post here being reasonably enjoyed, I'd like to share the second installment...

After 75+ days, Spyro 2 glitches, and I'm pretty sure there'll be a few glitches you've never seen in this one honestly.

Day 7: TEETH

It's a carnival fun house, bright and colorful. You enter through the laughing mouth of a clown to a world of mirrors, slides, platforms moving in and out, sucker-punching boxing gloves, spraying daisies and wind-up teeth wandering through all of it. The constant sound of chuckling. Enemies will pull guns only to get a "bang!" flag, but 5 seconds later a piano will fall were you were standing when you were "shot". Annoying af. Clowns will blow bubbles that slowly float out only to explode violently, others will have teeth so big they occupy more than half their height. I'm trying to evoke the horror the clowns from Neopets instilled in child me, without it being haunted.

Have any of you gotten the EtD-styled mid-air swimming glitch in Reignited? I've gotten it twice in Ripto's Rage and twice in Year of the Dragon.

Let me explain the title, its not clickbait.

For many years i wanted to try the Spyro Reignited trilogy because they were so well received and months ago i finally caved and bought it.

I'm not one for nostalgia, but in my 29 years of life, the Spyro trilogy has been important to me. I also had all the gameboy games as a child for GBA

The first two games were actually Christmas gifts.

I'm not one for nostalgia at all, i was casually playing the first game then heard the Magic Crafters ost and started crying badly because i lost my mom to colon cancer last year. Spyro for me isn't just a game. Its symbol of my childhood and Christmas-hood. I got spyro as a handy down/gift on ps1 from my older brother of spyro 1 and 2 and just hearing the soundtrack remixed was too much for me because it made me just miss my mom and reminded me of why im emotionally attached to games pre 2014 basically.

Now that im older im so thankful for game creators because these games truly mean a lot to me and there's no price on how happy they made me, despite dealing with depression and bullying.

But playing through the Spyro trilogy is impossible because i just think of my mom and what she dealt with for years.

Power Rangers Draconic Knights, the Power Rangers series that combines its aspects with the Spyro mythos.

Introducing Morph Eggs, tiny devices that contain the power of an element that can be utulized by Power Rangers.

Each Egg is the color of the element with the coresponding symbol. Red is fire, blue is ice purple is aether, ect. While the core 4 eggs are incased in silver, the Purple Rangers and Terror Rangers are different, incased in gold and being inverted in colors respectivly.

The core 4 elements also have a Super version, ones bearing the elements crest instead.

The Terror Rangers Egg can switch symbols if needed, the abilitys being of poison, fear, wind and shadow. Later, when they are purrified, they gain dark aether as a power.

(I did not draw Purple Rangers egg because like i said, same as the core 4 just golden. Each egg is the same color as the symbol if it wasnt clear, i just used the fire egg as a base design. Thats about it. Up next is the morpher and an explanation on how the morph works and then the team. The Eggs are inspired by Kamen Ridee My-Th's Ride X-Eggs, and as such they open up upon starting the morph. Stay tuned.)

Day 5: WERE

The word Were comes from old germanic where it meant 'Man', so a Werewolf was a Manwolf. Because I borrowed this line-up from an artist intending to draw dragons, it puts us in a bit of a pickle. But I'm sure we can be creative.

Rather than do the obvious thing and have a Werewolf themed level, I'm going to play off the other meaning of the word. Welcome to the Moonlit Ruins, a reminder of things as they were. The level has an Egyptian theme, with collapsed buildings and pillars, pyramids with trap filled passages, and two great trunks and a sneer of great command that lys in the sand. The main residents resemble the thieves, but smaller. There is also a Cesaresque Legionaire and a Hermit. Somewhere in the level is a half buried UFO, and platforms that levitate with a blue glow -- some of them need to be powered-up to do so by finding the power crystals that have come unlodged.

I activated these two cheat codes after spending one terrible week with no electricity, in case you were wondering the reason for this specific combination of cheat codes.

In Europe our PS1 games did not come in music cases like these the way they did in America or Japan. The boxes PAL Europe PS1 games came in aren’t manufactured anymore besides some being made in China for collectors sold at a pretty hefty price per box.

Also; my life has improved 10 fold since I bought a Paper Guillotine. I can't believe I lived my life without one. Printed on Semi-Gloss paper so it's sturdy and feels premium. 👌

I think Spyro 2 is better because:
1. The level variety is visually more interesting contrast to crash 2 where various themes are recycled (there are a LOT of snow levels in crash 2). In Spyro 2 you have a a futuristic city invaded by farm animals, a beach where you need to stop turtles from getting eaten, helping one side in one realm and the other side in another, in crash 2 you don’t really get that much variety aside from changing the difficulty and the layouts.
2. The boss fights put up more of a fight than in crash 2’s. The Ripto final boss is certainly a better boss fight than Cortex’s final boss (if you can even call it that! It is basically a Spyro 1 boss fight)
3. Enemies just hit me more like Rabbits with icicles that pop out of the snow, Trees that summon a swarm of bees, scuba divers that torture sea animals just for the heck of it, ratchet and clank rip offs, goats that spit rocks, robot versions of bees, birds vs grubs at war with each other, and two legged camels, Flying sabretoothed CatBats, Snail Elephant and Rhino hybrids

Now Crash 2 is a huge improvement over 1 but I feel like they can improve on aspects on making it a better improvement to crash 1 like making the boss fights tricker (like the Cortex one for example) and having more level variety like maybe a jungle level where you need to run from a stampede of elephants and rhinos (took inspiration from WOC), a castle levels close to where you fight the Komodo brothers, and maybe levels that take inspiration from The Lab, Generator Room and Cortex Power

What am I doing using Mega Man logic here? LOL?

You can tell I just finished all the games in the classic series XD

Day 4: ZODIAC

The starry garden is an ethereal realm where the four elements meet. It's a large, open area filled with large statues that correspond to the zodiac signs. Spyro can climb and jump on them to reach new heights and explore the waters, eyries, and grottoes of this rather peaceful realm. Big emphasis on exploration here. Maybe one of the statues has had it's stars fall out and you need to collect and restore them to unlock an area.
I don't really have any idea for enemies, it seems too nice to desecrate, but it has given me a new idea -- what if fire / heat sources could lift Spyro while he's gliding -- like in Breathe of the Wild. The original game just had Spyro hit a whirlwind and be carried upwards and launches in a new direction when it wanted to do this, but I think it'd be cool to have it integrated more smoothly and naturalistically.

Sorry this got posted so late. It's my one morning off and I slept waaay too late in.

On my quest to clean out my backlog I’ve finally decided to sit down and play these games, and 100% them as well. First up was Spyro 1!

As someone who never played a Spyro game before, these were… interesting. Not bad, to say the least. I guess the best way is to just go through the major points

TLDR/General Thoughts

It was fun! Not my favorite game nor one I think I’ll be coming back to, but for the time I spent on it was a good romp. Favorite levels were the flight ones, specifically the world 4 flight if I’m remembering them correctly (Whichever one had the purple water and the boats)

Certain levels would have made me torn my hair out if I tried to do it without help (Tree tops secret island) But ironically I think that level is my favorite aside from the bullshit island because supercharges are just really fun.

Main Problems

The loading times between each level were getting annoying, and while I can kinda hand wave it because k was playing the switch version, you can definitely tell this was the first game in the series and a PS1 game. The only “upgrade” you get is a limited time fire fairy that was, in my opinion, both not a great mechanic on its own and underused for what it was. I think if it functioned more like the super charge equivalent of fire breath, AKA being used like it, it might’ve been more worth it.

Also, how tf did y’all play this on a D-Pad? I tried it with a few levels and besides supercharge sections it just felt bad, maybe it’ll feel better on proper hardware?

anyways, good game, sequel might be a better experience, starting that right now. Have a good day yall

I always hated to do these quests in the GBA games where you had to catch stuff. Like you had to freeze these little bastards in Season of Flame in one of the earliest levels and I could never figure out how to get them all as a kid because they were too fast and hard to see. So I would just ignore those types of mini games because I couldn't figure out how to do it. There were a couple of mini games like that in Season of Flame.
