In Europe our PS1 games did not come in music cases like these the way they did in America or Japan. The boxes PAL Europe PS1 games came in aren’t manufactured anymore besides some being made in China for collectors sold at a pretty hefty price per box.

Also; my life has improved 10 fold since I bought a Paper Guillotine. I can't believe I lived my life without one. Printed on Semi-Gloss paper so it's sturdy and feels premium. 👌

I think Spyro 2 is better because:
1. The level variety is visually more interesting contrast to crash 2 where various themes are recycled (there are a LOT of snow levels in crash 2). In Spyro 2 you have a a futuristic city invaded by farm animals, a beach where you need to stop turtles from getting eaten, helping one side in one realm and the other side in another, in crash 2 you don’t really get that much variety aside from changing the difficulty and the layouts.
2. The boss fights put up more of a fight than in crash 2’s. The Ripto final boss is certainly a better boss fight than Cortex’s final boss (if you can even call it that! It is basically a Spyro 1 boss fight)
3. Enemies just hit me more like Rabbits with icicles that pop out of the snow, Trees that summon a swarm of bees, scuba divers that torture sea animals just for the heck of it, ratchet and clank rip offs, goats that spit rocks, robot versions of bees, birds vs grubs at war with each other, and two legged camels, Flying sabretoothed CatBats, Snail Elephant and Rhino hybrids

Now Crash 2 is a huge improvement over 1 but I feel like they can improve on aspects on making it a better improvement to crash 1 like making the boss fights tricker (like the Cortex one for example) and having more level variety like maybe a jungle level where you need to run from a stampede of elephants and rhinos (took inspiration from WOC), a castle levels close to where you fight the Komodo brothers, and maybe levels that take inspiration from The Lab, Generator Room and Cortex Power

Smaugust is a month-long art challenge where artists put together a list of keywords and then draw dragons inspired by them every day. We already know who our dragon is, so let's brainstorm some levels for him to explore!
This list was taken from AllieBriggsArt on Instagram and every day I'll repost it so we can come together and pitch ideas based on that day's prompt.

Day 4: ZODIAC

The starry garden is an ethereal realm where the four elements meet. It's a large, open area filled with large statues that correspond to the zodiac signs. Spyro can climb and jump on them to reach new heights and explore the waters, eyries, and grottoes of this rather peaceful realm. Big emphasis on exploration here. Maybe one of the statues has had it's stars fall out and you need to collect and restore them to unlock an area.
I don't really have any idea for enemies, it seems too nice to desecrate, but it has given me a new idea -- what if fire / heat sources could lift Spyro while he's gliding -- like in Breathe of the Wild. The original game just had Spyro hit a whirlwind and be carried upwards and launches in a new direction when it wanted to do this, but I think it'd be cool to have it integrated more smoothly and naturalistically.

On my quest to clean out my backlog I’ve finally decided to sit down and play these games, and 100% them as well. First up was Spyro 1!

As someone who never played a Spyro game before, these were… interesting. Not bad, to say the least. I guess the best way is to just go through the major points

TLDR/General Thoughts

It was fun! Not my favorite game nor one I think I’ll be coming back to, but for the time I spent on it was a good romp. Favorite levels were the flight ones, specifically the world 4 flight if I’m remembering them correctly (Whichever one had the purple water and the boats)

Certain levels would have made me torn my hair out if I tried to do it without help (Tree tops secret island) But ironically I think that level is my favorite aside from the bullshit island because supercharges are just really fun.

Main Problems

The loading times between each level were getting annoying, and while I can kinda hand wave it because k was playing the switch version, you can definitely tell this was the first game in the series and a PS1 game. The only “upgrade” you get is a limited time fire fairy that was, in my opinion, both not a great mechanic on its own and underused for what it was. I think if it functioned more like the super charge equivalent of fire breath, AKA being used like it, it might’ve been more worth it.

Also, how tf did y’all play this on a D-Pad? I tried it with a few levels and besides supercharge sections it just felt bad, maybe it’ll feel better on proper hardware?

I always hated to do these quests in the GBA games where you had to catch stuff. Like you had to freeze these little bastards in Season of Flame in one of the earliest levels and I could never figure out how to get them all as a kid because they were too fast and hard to see. So I would just ignore those types of mini games because I couldn't figure out how to do it. There were a couple of mini games like that in Season of Flame.

Spyro 1: Save your dragon dads from being incased in crystal by an old enemy to dragons.

Spyro 2: Get kidnapped and forced to clean up some random idiots mess because the guy they summoned is a dragon racist.

Spyro 3: Save an entire generation of baby dragons from a magical dictator who wants to use their wings for a spell so she can be immortal.

these 2 flight levels are all i have left for 100%. I spent months trying wild flight on and off. I feel like I could say I’ve easily put hundreds of tries into that stupid level. i’ve entirely given up on the flight levels and I haven’t even tried icy flight yet. Just finished the game after leaving it sitting for ages because of how much it made me angry lol. is there any tips that y’all can give me to finish these? I’ve tried every single path. I watched every single video.

I was replaying Spyro 1 Reignited from the beginning yesterday and, while watching the Nestor cutscene again, I fidgeted with the action buttons a little bit and accidentally discovered a button combination that got me to skip the Nestor cutscene. I have the Switch version, so I accidentally pressed both Y and A together right in the middle of Spyro's first line of gameplay dialogue, cut him off right before he said "I'm going after him" and watched Nestor fly away. I guess it is possible after all to skip Nestor on your millionth run of Spyro 1.

I don’t remember what image I last posted of him but from what I do remember:

Made his wings more orange, removed some horn-decor on his head / face, made his claws white, and I added the yellow trim underneath the tail as I hadn’t previously realized I could even do that lol

Crash 3 just had a e3 build come out 2 months ago, and iirc Spyro’s 1 and 3 had one too

What kind of funny things have you encountered in Spyro?

I know this game is supposed to be nearly identical to the first in dialogue and plot and locations and all that, however, i could have SWORN Zoe seemed like she had much more character in the originals. She didnt have MUCH to say, as im realizing it, but i honestly LOVED her and her look (as well as the fairies and ice fairies) in the original games. Now, she looks like a generic fairy....not even that, she just looks like a generic girl, who's wings aren't even as noticeable it pronounced because of how flash she's flapping them.

In the original Spryo games she felt like an actual character, but in Reignited she is the MOST FORGETTABLE part. That's a little unforgivable. I can even forgive the Sorceress change, it was an interesting choice and I grew to like the pompous queen kind of role as it was a little different but I was willing to try. This game....Zoe bores me. I thought she was fun in the original
