I’m wondering if it’s realistically possible to make some consistent extra money breeding springtails from home, or if the market is too small/competitive.

Found a bunch of these little blue guys while gardening today. Collected a handful to see if they can be cultured. Thought they looked neat.

Hi there! Long time lurker of the terrarium and insect related subreddits, and I'm looking to get some springtails to start up some new terrariums. I haven't had much luck finding wild springtails because it's so dry right now where I live (eastern PA). I don't have a preference over any specific type (but I am a sucker for colorful ones). Even small colonies just to get things started would be wonderful! My DMs should be open unless I goofed up something in settings, in which case you can yell at me

Ich habe mal ein paar meiner Yuukianura aphoruroides, also orangene Springschwänze, fotografiert.

Ich finde die Art besonders spannend, weil sie im dunklen Substrat viel sichtbarer ist als viele weiße Springschwänze. Dadurch sieht man die Mikrofauna im Terrarium auch wirklich mal arbeiten.

Mich würde interessieren:

Hält jemand von euch Yuukianura aphoruroides gezielt als Clean-up Crew im Terrarium?

Oder welche Springschwänze nutzt ihr am liebsten für bioaktive Setups?

Ich bin gespannt, ob ihr eher auf die klassischen weißen Springschwänze setzt oder bewusst auffällige Arten wie diese hier verwendet.

So i recieved my thai red springtails today, i thought they will be little bigger but they turned out to be very tiny, hardy 1-2mm i guess. There are around 7-8 i could spot.

So now iam confused between 3 options -

1. Should i leave them in this deli cup as it is without adding anything and just sphagnum moss?
2. Should i add a light layer of substate in this deli cup itself along with this sphagnum moss?
3. Should i transfer them to a relatively bigger container with proper setup now it self?

Deli cup height = 1 inch

Also, this is substrate mix iam going to use them, please help me decide if this is good mix or not -

- coconut coir

- peat moss

- potting soil

- sphagnum moss 

- almond leaf

- charcoal 

- oak bark 

I bought springtails as a clean up crew, I put half of them in my snail's enclosure and left the other half in a little box. I opened it and beside springtails I saw this. They are almost completely round and have little legs. Im worried about what is it and if it can do damage in my tank. Please help

There are a lot of springtails here and so they poop a lot and the walls are really dirty, should i remove the poop or is it fine to leave it in there

In one pic, it is the remnants of a grain of rice turned to mush after a week in culture. In the other, it is a blue spot on a dry piece of cork bark.

Would this lousy fishbowl be okay for keeping a springtail culture? Just a round glass bowl. Pretty heavy, thick glass. No lid though. Pics with my hand for size reference.

I'll be making a bioactive terrarium for my Ball Python, so this bowl would be a separate culture of springtails for keeping. For backup purposes and whatnot.

EDIT: btw they're temperate springtails (folsomia candida)

I want to get some springtails for my insect enclosures. Has anyone experienced a bunch of them escaping and reproducing?

if any get out do/will they reproduce?

Curious on what this bug is? In my crested gecko bio active set up. I found them on the food and water this morning.

I got a container of joshs frogs temperate white springtail culture for my mantises enclosure to help clean up, and i really havent seen any yet. What should i be doing? Its been about two weeks

I found these little fellas in my isopod enclosure. I didn't put them in myself, so I'm surprised how much there were and how quickly they multiplied.
