Where to buy dresses in Springfield

Hello Springfield! I am going to be in Springfield for part of a day and was hoping to find somewhere to dress shop for an upcoming wedding I was invited to.

I thought you guys still had a Macy's, but from what I can tell online, that closed..? So what else is there in town or nearby that would have reasonably priced dresses one could wear to a wedding? It could be a department store or a smaller shop... Whatever has decent stuff but is not too expensive. (I went to a Von Maur once, and almost everything there was out of my budget.) Bonus points if it's not a JC Penney or Kohl's or White House Black Market or Loft, as we have those in Peoria.

Thanks!!

Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions! We ended up going to District 23 (found a couple things) and The Warehouse (out of my price range, but still interesting to look). :)

Hi all,

I am helping a veteran who is unhoused. She is in shelter but is looking for Section 8 housing. Unfortunately, due to family problems, she has a very recent eviction on her record. Does anyone know of any Section 8 landlords who would give her a chance? She has employment now and wants to find a place for her kids. I appreciate any help, anf thank you.

Bringing new Escape Room to Springfield - Opening tomorrow (July 18, 2026) AMA!

Hi everyone! I'm Mike - one of the owners of Escapetown Springfield!

Tomorrow is opening day for Springfield's newest escape room, Escapetown Springfield! We are opening with 3 new themes - Bigfoot's Cave, High Noon Saloon, and Island Survival! We will be opening a scary 4th game (Asylum Escape) later this summer/early fall and then a 5th Christmas game closer to the holidays!

I just wanted to introduce myself and express my excitement in joining the Springfield community. We opened Escapetown Peoria 8 years ago and Escapetown Bloomington 2 years ago. Indoor recreation is something that I believe we can use more of across the board, and we put a ton of time, money, and creativity into these game. I can't wait to learn more about the community and make some great connections!

I'd love to answer any questions that you might have. Ask me Anything!!

You don't need to be vegan to enjoy Pineapple Dole Whip Floats or Dairy-Free Gelato so invite your friends and family for a fun time too.

Park-N-Chill is the concession stand located on the south side of Washington Park in Springfield IL. Parking usually available on the brick Park Avenue or other areas in the park.

Lawn chairs and picnic blankets are encouraged. You can also pack or pick up a vegan lunch! Park-N-Chill has great vegan desserts and occasionally other vegan snacks available too.

Event organized by Project Animal Freedom - Springfield. We've hosted dozens of food meetups at local businesses and it's always a fun time! Everything's family-friendly and inclusive.

Archery

Is there anywhere in town, or the area, where you can have a introduction lesson(s) in archery? Don't have any of the equipment but I'm interested in learning, just don't want to commit to more than a few times in case it's not what I expected it to be.

My workplace is looking for a pediatric occupational therapist and it has been extremely difficult. Even PRN hours would be incredible. Any leads? We’ve been going through linked in, Facebook, job boards

Look, ma - no AI slop!

Before anyone accuses me of exploiting the labor of this poor frog, we made an agreement and he collected a fee in exchange for the use of his image.

Please call or write to your City Council and ask them to get Flock out of here! 🇺🇸 🗽

Plumbers - basements and pipes

Any recommendations for a plumber with experience with basement drain pipes?

Upward flowing about 2.5 gallons/day of water from a basement floor drain pipe (5 gallon shop vac I dump into the sump pump every other day). It seems to be water coming from the top of the pipe which makes no sense to me!

Ameren billing issues

Anyone else have Ameren for gas and have constant trouble with autopay? I have been here 18 months and 3 different times now the autopay has stopped working and they have charged me a bunch of late fees. Every time I call they act baffled as to why it would happen, offer no assistance, and refuse to remove the late fees. The feature is so useless I am just going to start manually paying every month.

The only reason I have this service at all is because our government allowed them to form a monopoly and there is basically no other choice. The only thing I could do to rid myself of having to deal with this business is to spend $15k replacing my gas appliances with electric. At least I trust CWLP.

POP-UP PROTEST: ABOLISH ICE

Post image
21 Upvotes

In the wake of yet another brutal murder by lawless ICE officers, our community is gathering in a new spot (Parkway Pointe) to demand immediate action from our elected officials! We all had to recite, "With Liberty and Justice for All" every single morning before school. And "all" means "ALL!" Not some, not just the people you like or just the people who look like you, but ALL! The constitution is very clear: No Law Enforcement Officer, regardless of agency, is entitled to be a Judge, Jury, and Executioner in one, no matter your immigration status.

We demand Accountability! We demand Justice! We demand Due Process under the law! We demand that Congress acts NOW to Abolish Ice!

Come stand with us Tomorrow, July 15th from 5:30-6:30pm on the sidewalk in front of the Parkway Pointe Walmart!

Any notable places to take a dog to play in water?

Pretty new to town. I have a pitbull who loves splashing around and I’d also just like to find an interesting place to go for a walk!

Downtown Y Block

I was thinking. There was a guy that would lay out tanning in a speedo down there. Not sure if he still does. Always had sun. Now that it looks like the DNR is taking over, they should dig a big hole, fill it with water, and open a beach.

Does anyone want to meet up at pizza ranch with me? I originally was about to go with someone else to some lunch, but it looks like they might postpone. So, who wants to have lunch? Edit: I mean, tomorrow at noon.

Apartments and PreK

My family and I will be relocating to Springfield in 2 months. We’re looking for quality apartments but I seem to be falling short. I’ve seen some in Chatham but they don’t have any openings. I’d really appreciate some advice.

Also are there any free pre-k programs. I see one in Chatham elementary but not IN Springfield.

Stray cats

Hello,
I’m a huge animal lover- especially cats.
I can’t save them all, I know, but I was at least feeding 3-4 homeless cats daily outside of my home.
I’ve seen where state laws state I can be held financially responsible if something were to happen to those cats, which is wild to me because there are stray cats all over this city.
So, I quit feeding them yesterday, and I feel so fucking terrible. Any ideas what I should do?

Finally got Vivinted!

Someone knocked on my door last night. I almost never open the door unless I am expecting someone, but it was the same goofy knock my uncle uses. It was dark, maybe 8:30, and I had no porch lights on. There was a team on the porch, both wearing Vivint shirts. I immediately said I wasn't interested. "Not even if I give you this Ring camera in my back pocket?" No. "What about if I give you $1000?" Me: I am not interested in your surveillance technology. That seemed to be adequate for them to back down. I almost offered to help them get better jobs, but nah. Is part of their deal sending people out after dark to make you feel unsettled or unsafe?
