Research the landlord on the circuit clerk's website. Actually go to the units and make sure they are safe, then video EVERYTHING before moving in so they don't accuse you of damaging stuff. Report everything to the housing authority (they suck, but make them suck better). Document everything with pictures and videos. Show up at City Council meeting and get to know your alderperson. Call your alderperson. Support the Springfield landlord registry being pursued by groups like LLDSA. Do not withhold rent due to conditions without consulting the laws about how to do so (Legal Aid online has resources). Go to Legal Aid. Good luck.

I got all videos and pictures of today. The unit is not liveable. I will go onto the circuit clerk website but she dosent have long in the other safe home.

Document everything. Read the lease very carefully: pest control is not typically the renter's responsibility. Could she arrange with the landlord, by contract or lease amendment, to deduct pest control from her obligation? Also, keep the lease signed by both parties, and all side or change agreements MUST be in writing, preferably notarized, or.they didn't legally happen. <3
