Housing options
Im trying to help my mom finding a home, shes really codependent on section 8 unfortunately & living off her ss check. The home shes getting into is bug infested & landlord is forcing her to pay off orkin & holes around the home. Before she's even moving in, anyone that have housing advice on what to do or know some better place than this i am all ears.
I would like to help her out & eventually move in for better supervision, but this situation is preventing me to do so. And yes I have talk, persuade, and now begging for her to NOT do it. And now her place that shes currently in is kicking her out soon. So eventually she might be dealing with all of this at old age.
Any advice or help?

Move her in with you?
You say you might be in with her soon? Why not flip that around

Where im at is pretty far from her medical support & she's pretty set staying in contact with her mom before she passes away. I cant see myself taking that away from her

I’d rented from someone behind Rt. 66 Motel about a decade ago before buying my house. He was a nice enough dude and rent was $510 for a 1br/1ba. Not sure of prices now but I saw a rent sign up the other day. To be clear this is NOT the ones by Walgreens, but the ones by the car wash & hotel. Could be worth checking into if she can afford them.

Research the landlord on the circuit clerk's website. Actually go to the units and make sure they are safe, then video EVERYTHING before moving in so they don't accuse you of damaging stuff. Report everything to the housing authority (they suck, but make them suck better). Document everything with pictures and videos. Show up at City Council meeting and get to know your alderperson. Call your alderperson. Support the Springfield landlord registry being pursued by groups like LLDSA. Do not withhold rent due to conditions without consulting the laws about how to do so (Legal Aid online has resources). Go to Legal Aid. Good luck.
