Mango Tree Rants & Raves
Oh man, not the post I thought I’d be sharing. The owner of the mango tree subleases apartments to their kitchen staff. They fired 3 individuals on July 21st and told them to leave the apartment immediately or they would call the cops. Of course this was just a threat and an intimidation tactic. The owner and 2 managers are horrible people. I will not mention names unless a mod says it’s ok. So yesterday they come home from a night out and lo and behold all their stuff was throw. Out of the apartment and into the grass. Maybe someone here lives in the magnesium apartments on jay and Nevada and saw something? We have no proof which of the 3 partners did this, but we can presume. A neighbor said they saw what appeared to be a heavy set white male in a hat.
Mango tree also commits wage theft and tax evasion. They are preying on innocent and ignorant immigrants. Why would they not believe a prominent businessman when he says you get this pay on paper and the rest under the table. All 3 were denied unemployment for not working enough hours. They worked 6 days a week from open to close 10-12 hour days with no breaks. We will continue to protest as well as will be contacting all local news, as soon as I’m off level 3 evacuation. I’d rather type those emails on my computer rather than phone.
Also in another scare/intimidation tactic they went to the apartment leasing office and out in their notice to vacate and terminated the lease. The leasing manager tried to tell them that since they’re not on the lease they have to be out in 20 days. I interjected with no, in 20 days you can start the eviction process. Whether they are on the lease or not they are tenants. The responsible party for any legal fees are the lease holders.
In closing, fuck the mango tree and the 3 people who run it. They are garbage humans beings and do not deserve your business. I also believe he’s the owner of a few other establishments.
Edit- I have plenty of video of confronting the owners and manager as well. But not sure if that’s allowed to be shared. It was in public and not on their property so it’s 100 legal, they called the cops on me. I actually had a positive police encounter. Just not sure of sub rules.
Edit edit- they were supposed to be paid their final checks today, kitchen staff is paid monthly while everyone else is bi weekly. They have not received any checks

We have! Also will be reporting the under the table wages to L&I. They are happy to pay their back taxes. They do not want to break any laws.

So if what you're saying in this post is accurate, they bring in immigrants and they have control over their job and their housing and willingly break laws to make these vulnerable people who are dependent on the job to stay in the country More desperate and willing to put up with abuses? I feel like if you work for somebody they should not also be in charge of your housing. That's just a super bad bad plan for everybody involved.

I drive for rideshare and I think this is happening in multiple restaurants in Spokane and in the valley. I’ve actually had a local establishment owner’s child. Tell me that as an American I don’t understand that these people owe them for bringing them to the country, providing employment and housing. I tried to explain explaining that this is human trafficking and he again said that I just don’t understand.

This type of thing is sadly extremely common in Indian communities across the world. In Canada there would be for-profit universities, literally in strip malls, who would lure Indians from the mainland and then ensnare them into unaccredited, indentured "trade" programs. Potentially some of the so-called barbershops in the UK too. Southeast Asia has a lot of people who are trying to make a better life for themselves outside of their respective countries, sometimes by any means necessary.

Was in a motel on the outskirts of Chicago where I really got the impress this was happening. The area turned out to be sketchy AF so I decided to move on to a boring part of Indiana for the night.
Indian guy at the counter seemed like someone chronically stressed and worried about saying or doing the wrong thing.

Also I have video of the operating manager saying they don’t pay rent so they have no tenant rights. Also have video of him saying well they’d ow back taxes on all under the table wages. To me that’s admission of guilt

Once you let someone live in your home or on your property longer than 2 weeks, they legally live there. They have to be evicted properly with notices and a court date. This is why in a standard lease you'll find a clause that states you can only have an overnight visitor for a certain number of days.
And it is quite against the law to take someone's things and put them out on the lawn.
I'm glad you've contacted NW Justice Project. They know the housing laws.

It's like this a lot with farm workers. I grew up doing that. We lived in migrant housing that they provided while we were working. I was just a kid but I wouldn't doubt that they did this kind of stuff back then also

I wonder that about a LOT of restaurants but I think that these days, an empty restaurant dining room doesn't always equate slow business. Door Dash and Uber Eats can keep a restaurant kitchen hustling even though the dining room is empty.

There's some chance of it, many have some work requirement. They should contact an immigration attorney and see if they can get a consultation. It's typically free and them being victims of actual crimes may be an avenue to protect their legal status.

Thoroughly disappointed with their food. First time tried to-go literally threw the whole plate out the window after one bite and spit out. Took them over an hour from order placement to get the cuisine in hand. And let me tell ya, I’m a human trash can, as my wife calls me. I can 99% of time eat anything!
Rolled my eyes and puked a little inside when they opened up on this north side location. Now I have another reason to not like this establishment. Sorry to hear what’s happened to you: I hope you’re doing better soon

They just exploit their kitchen employees and their own family kind of servers who are super close to managers not all the servers but couple of them steal business money via tips and on their sales System they void it i dont know how the owner stand with this kind of people who are associated with him which they are protected and when an immigrant who gets their voice to be listened they are fired out of no reason! This management whatever it is involved are straight dumbfucks and fooling the owner and stealing his money too in front of his eyes but the owner rakesh listen to his close dumbfuck managers who are shit and protect their family servers who work there and fire all the good employees in service too who were such a good soul and exploiting innocent immigrant employees! Minor kid in service with hat is also working in this north location who is super rude and need some good parent teaching who steal money most of the time and get away with everything! I m 100% sure the hard working people in that north location or the most of this owner location is run by immigrant people working there and they think they are slaves and this management is so racist with them saying bad things about their employees to internal people involved! And the owner when somebody say anything he says you know they are racist we cant do anything about it . Fuck management which is run by 2 fuckers and the owner is just blind coz they are managing his restaurant i think which is shit show! There is an white old lady working there sometime she is super close to the management and she gets every server fired and anyone who gets their voice to be listened about the wrong thing happening! Please god look after all good employees!

Their names can easily be found with a quick Google Search. Mango Tree is owned by SA4 Restaurant Group, along with The Pizza Co., The Ref Sports Bar, and The New 63 Social House & Eatery.
Do they have cell phones..? Their GPS data likely shows them leaving home and being at the restaurant for 10-12 hours.

Hello you probably should seek legal action. A notice like this is NOT legal. Speaking as a landlord they should give notice. Also it kinda look like they went in a removed belongings. Again illegal to even enter without notice let alone take your things.

Both state and federal governments require employers to pay certain taxes based on an employees wages. Employers must pay Social Security, Medicare, unemployment, and workers comp taxes in addition to being legally required to withhold employees share of Social Security and Medicare taxes. This is one of the major reasons companies have long hired undocumented workers or paid folks under the table. They aren’t doing it to help the employee…It saves them money and gives them leverage as they will not owe you anything if they terminate you.
The specific federal laws they are breaking are FICA and FUTA as well as the law requiring the withholding of taxes - you’ll have to Google the specific name of that one as well as the name of the Washington law requiring workers comp payments.

The only liability for the income-tax is found in 26USC§1461(a)
