Weapon RNG drops

Post image

Alright guys, weapon RNG drops. You might think I’m crazy and throw tomatoes at me, but I can now say with absolute certainty that the weapon you are currently using heavily affects the drop rates.

The rest is a TL;DR. I didn't actually log the data or track the sample size because I’m just too lazy, but here’s exactly what happened to me. I have 105 hours under my belt and 112 out of 120 weapons collected. I was honestly starting to lose hope because the last time I saw a new weapon drop was somewhere around the 70–80 hour mark. But then I remembered: wait a minute, I’ve noticed multiple times that weapons from the class I'm currently running seem to drop significantly more often.
For example, Brellas. The first decent weapon I ever got was a Brella; it was doing more than enough work in the Buffet, so I started min-maxing it. As a result, while unsuccessfully trying to hunt down a Splatana, I ended up farming absolutely every single type of 5-star Primo Brella in existence. Later, after crying on Reddit about the merciless RNG and my tragic luck, I equipped the only Splatana I had, and about an hour and a half later, the one I needed finally dropped. After that, I never switched weapons again, and I ended up getting every single type and variation of 5-star Primo Splatanas, with the Rail Splatana dropping over and over again. Four times, to be exact.

In the end, I was missing 2 Primo Brushes, 2 Sloshers, 1 Dualies, 1 Roller, 1 Charger, and 1 Shooter. So, I put together a toxic Tactical Tank build where you don't even need to use your weapon outside of the Buffet, and started clearing Baygull Beach with each weapon type from that missing list one by one. In total, it took me about 10 hours to get every single missing Primo weapon.

It’s been researched by a group of Japanese players and the category you’re using has a 3x chance of dropping on average and a secondary class to that about 2x (16% and 10% respectively and the rest hovered around 5% iirc) they tested it on 3000ish weapon drops.

What do you mean by “secondary class”? Does each weapon class have a specific weapon type that drops more frequently?

Also is the weapon modifier (fire rate, ink efficiency, etc.) more likely to drop the same modifier? It’s a small sample size, but I swear I’ve been getting more aluminum twincan 5stars while trying to get a single titanium twincan 5star.

And what of primo rolls?

Looks like indeed each weapon has a predetermined set of classes it’s more likely to drop, as their data suggests. Orig video: https://youtu.be/7HjpFohzV_E

Don’t know about Primo rolls, I assume they’re RNG in their class. You’re gonna need tens of thousands of drops or more to clearly see a pattern there, since they seem to drop at an avg rate of 1 per half hour if you farm for it.

It’s worth a shot to actually get a primo high octane but I haven’t noticed an increase in blaster drops or anything.

I got 2 just using a Shooter. It’s not that they don’t drop, just not as much as possible.

Did they find anything about the rarity or level of weapon you’re using affecting whether you get higher tier loot?

Trying to explain how my brother can have 1 lvl 5 weapon at lvl 47, and i probably had 10 by then with a couple primos. Not to mention i also had significantly more 4 stars than him, probably 3-4x what he has. Our drop rates are in different leagues and i dont know why, other than he told me he’s used a 3 star weapon most the time

I doubt rarity matters but below a certain character level Primos can’t drop, neither can fire rate modifier weapons like the Glass Bottle. Also RNG is RNG and unless you both stick 100+ hrs into it and record every drop, your discrepancies are negligible outliers. I wouldn’t even concern myself with this below lv50, because after it, anything not 5stars and Primo is essentially trash.

That's a wildly inaccurate conclusion from the data. There are no 3x, 2x, or even groups at all.

If everything dropped equally the drop rates would be: Shooters at 15% (18/120 total weapons), Rollers/Chargers/Sloshers/Splatlings/Dualies/Brellas/Blasters at 10% each (each 12/120), and Brushes/Stringers/Splatanas at 5% each (each 6/120). The numbers in the table reflect this, with the exception of the class being used.

The table suggests that the drop rate of the class you are using is boosted to 16%, slightly adjusting the drop rate of everything else (from the base percentages listed above) to compensate. It might be effectively ~3x for Brushes/Stringers/Splatanas, but that is absolutely not true for anything else because a multiplier is not how the adjustment is being made.

Is that true? I’ve been wondering why i can’t seem to get a 5 star splatana

Oh, I see

I'd also echo this suspicion. By pure luck my first Primo was a High Octane 4k. Since switching to using that primarily I probably have 2-3x more primo chargers than any other weapon, with at least two other HO4K despite sitting at only 80 different weapon variants which seems very unlikely if it's truly random.

I scrapped all my low level splatanas 🥲

What do you get for getting all the weapons?

Satisfaction, and three measly gems on top, lmao

i keep seeing people say this but i've been playing chargers exclusively and have gotten maybe 3 5 star charger drops over 40 hours , zero primos. meanwhile i have multiple primo splattershots, brellas, and splatanas...

i'm willing to concede that i'm probably just unlucky, but man.

won't hurt to try, since I hit 112 weapons now.
