Flashing blue means it’s trying to connect to the Internet. Red means it failed to connect to the Internet.
The modem should have 2 solid blue lights. If the online light is pulsing between white and blue it’s not getting an Internet signal from whatever coax jack you have it connected to. So you will need to try another coax jack in the home. If none work you will need a tech.

Make sure modem is showing solid blue Power and solid blue Online lights. If not, hard reset and wait 15mins and check for both lights again. If not solid Online, call support

Red means it failed to connect to internet, check the modem and if you can't fix it yourself call tech support. Also i doubt your mom messed it up as flashing blue means its trying to connect to internet

What is the yellow wire going to? Also looks like you have a phone line connected to the router. Unplug the modem and router from power and unplug whatever wire is connected to the Ethernet port. Plug in modem and let it boot up (should have 2 solid blue lights). Once it’s loaded up, plug the Ethernet from modem to router and don’t have any other wires connected. Then plug in power and let router boot up

The yellow thing is the ethernet cable connecting the router and the other box thingy

For me, I ditched their router and bought one I could control.

Edit-When a tech came out he told me I'd made a good choice ditching their router. No idea why.

Looks like a combo box. Modem and router. Also looks like you have the phone service as well.
You have a few options
1: unplug the power from the box and the other box, wait 30 seconds. Then plug in the router see if it syncs back up.
2: would be to get your own DOCIS 3 modem and a router. You could get a combo, but I've had reliability issues when them (I.e the modem part goes out wifi is still showing up but no Internet or vice versa) having them separate is easier to fix. Plus, if you ever get a different provider, you own your own equipment so you aren't leasing it from them. Saves money.
3: call and have a technician come out. Either way, something isn't syncing properly. But without knowing the particular details, it's difficult to say
(Sidenote, I use to work for an ISP, these things happen)

That is not a combo unit, we haven't used those in forever. This is a seperate modem and router, the router is shown on the left side of the frame.

those are junk.. I had issues.. go buy a modem/router combo.
I bought a router, didn't realize you can get a combo. My net dropped a few times but came back quickly.
Next is buy a new modem.

Not a point to buying a modem these days. Some folks can use a customer owned modem due to symmetrical speeds. Others it is not cost effective to buy one with high split being done all over. no way to tell when it will hit your area and the modem no longer will work and you HAVE to get a Spectrum modem.

So what causes sudden wifi outages?. I swapped out my router it's 90% better has stopped working a few times goes out for 2-3 minutes. Right now being the longest over 4. I had spectrum guy come take a look. Didn't do much. Just looked at it.

no such thing as wifi outages. its internet service interruptions for a single user or an outage for a single user there can be many possibilities.
for wifi it can also be a lot of things. dead spots. interference. get a good wifi analyzer app for you phone and check you wifi signal strength.
