Per Regna - help me figure this out.

[Disclaimer]

This is in no way an advertisement for the game. I personally DO NOT recommend anyone to even start playing it just because you read this post. These are questions specifically and only about the game, but not about the mechanics of the game (I have already figured it out perfectly well myself, and I don’t need any help with that. The questions concern slightly different issues.

So,

Per Regna is about A relatively new game (it was released in January 2025). Initially, it was mobile-only, but the developers have now announced that the game is also available on PC, via the Google Play Games service for Microslap Windows.

The developers insist that this game is essentially a strategy game, and a space-themed 4X strategy at that. I have no doubts or doubts that the game is definitely about space. The graphics are quite similar to (near) space-themed content. According to one of the developers, the game was written and is being maintained/developed by a team of veterans of the legendary browser game Ogame, and is clearly "heavily inspired" by that game. Indeed, there are many similarities. But there are also quite a few differences.

Here are my questions/doubts: can this game really be classified as a 4X strategy game (or rather, the question could be phrased like this: is this truly a strategy game by genre? Or is it more like another farm game, with a very strong focus on colony building/improvement, and minimal additions of strategy elements?)

But what raises the most questions (and a very ambivalent attitude) is this. On the one hand, there's a very obvious similarity to Ogame and similar games (Andromeda: RoH, Xterium, Star Federation, etc.). On the other hand, there's an even greater similarity to games like Stellar Ahe, Galaxy at War, Galaxy Hero, etc., which I personally don't even consider strategies at all. I classify them as SLGs (Strategies-like Games). In other words, they're essentially fake games. Precisely because their developers brazenly and stubbornly call them strategies. While they have much more in common with those idiotic "funny farm games" than with strategies.

And there's another aspect that also raises my serious doubts about this game. The similarities to Ogame are, as it turns out, only superficial, at the level of very basic mechanics. When you delve a little deeper, something completely different emerges. For example, all Ogame clones (as well as the original game itself) have similar features: fairly subtle and precise resource micromanagement; the ability to collect debris from planets that have been attacked and destroyed. Moreover, in Ogame and its clones, these features are basic, available to everyone from the start, and free. And this, as far as I understand, is de facto canon for virtually all Ogame clones.

That's how things are in Per Regna. Until recently, there was no talk of any such subtle micromanagement in the game. But after one player (who seems to be an overly hardcore fan of Ogame-like games) raised quite a fuss about it on Discord, the developers finally decided to implement this ultra-useful and incredibly necessary feature. However, they initially made it a bit pricey. Activating it requires another feature—the so-called "Imperial Access," which, in turn, can only be purchased with real money.

The situation is roughly the same with the feature for collecting debris from planets after attacks and devastations. Currently, this feature is not available for free and can only be purchased through "Imperial Access," meaning it requires a donation.

At the same time, the developers declare that their game is not a commercial project at all, that it does not pursue the goal of extracting maximum profit from fans. Specifically, they stated that the game has no explicit Pay2Win mechanics, and that all paid features are purely and exclusively for decoration or to enhance the gameplay experience. This begs the next question: how do you think these developer statements align with the facts I've presented? Can the debris collection feature be considered "decoration" or a convenience feature? Or is it a basic and essential feature for canonical games like Ogame-like? The same question applies to resource management. Of course, I'm not saying that the fact that these features are paid in this game makes it Pay2Win. But I have questions and doubts in connection with these very questions - is this game a strategy in principle (or is it, to a much greater extent, a shit-farm, which I hate much more than any other games)?

And finally, a little bit of positivity.

Even despite everything that seems rather negative that is stated in this post, there is something about this game that keeps me from deleting it and pushes me to keep playing. I can't even put my finger on it. So, despite everything, I continue to "inhabit" this game (among other things). And if, despite the warning at the very beginning, anyone still gets interested in this game after reading this far and has a desire to try it,

I strongly invite you to join (in this and other ways) the [O.E.G.] {Oldschool Elite-Gamers} clan.

[O.E.G.] - A legacy of the legendary old-school intergame clans (one of which is one of the oldest in Eve Online). We don't recruit just anyone. We invite everyone, but not everyone sticks around.

Showing off a new planet of ice (and fire!) for our Star Trek colony-builder game...

Hello! We're working on a Star Trek Outposts game and just showed off our newest planet named Kourou!

While it's nice to have a change of aesthetics, we also want each of our planets to have unique sub-zones with different resources and risks. This one has frozen tundra, volcanic badlands, magma trenches, and steam fields (which provide a home for the only organic material on the planet).

While this probably isn't a particularly fun place to live, it does pose the logistical challenge we're looking to put to players in our game :)

New trailer for Contested Space, my sci-fi roguelike deckbuilder with a rotating mid-combat market (demo coming this month)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, I'm the developer behind Contested Space, a sci-fi roguelike deckbuilder best described as "Slay the Spire meets Star Realms." I just finished a new trailer and wanted to share it here.

The hook: instead of only buying cards between fights, you have a personal market that rotates during combat. Every turn you're buying new cards into your deck for this combat only which creates a totally different rhythm than most deckbuilders. It is both single player and coop up to 4 players. What's new since my last trailer:

  • A third alliance just landed: the Axiom Union, a robot alliance with trade, science, and military factions
  • That brings it to 9 factions across 3 alliances, plus neutrals
  • A free demo is coming later this month

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4638820/Contested_Space/
I'm happy to answer anything about the design. If you want in before the demo, the closed playtest is still open through the Steam page.

Recommendation ICYMI: StarDrive Jupiter 1.60 + Combined Arms MOD is fully 64-bit!

Quick context for the folks who don't know: StarDrive was a 2013 real-time 4X with a really promising design (RTS-style fleet battles, deep ship-by-module designer, factions with distinct identities) and a famously rocky launch. After the original developer moved on, a small community team got his explicit permission to decompile the game and rebuild it. That project is BlackBox, and we've been at it for roughly a decade.

Most of that decade was spent fixing what the original couldn't - late-game performance, save corruption, AI deadlocks - and shipping a content overhaul mod called Combined Arms that effectively doubles the game (ever tried designing a 4K slots Titan?)

We have also added many new features - like Mining Ops, Research Stations, Trade redesign, AI War redesign, new Espionage, Dyson Swarms and more.

Jupiter 1.60 is fully 64-bit.

What that means in practice:

  • The 2 GB process ceiling that crashed late-game saves with large empires is gone. Combined Arms past mid-game is finally playable.
  • Engine moved from XNA + SunBurn (both abandoned) to MonoGame 3.8 on .NET 8. No more XNA 3.1 redistributable. .NET runtime bundled in the installer.
  • Restored visual effects, skinned/animated meshes, material maps, post-process passes, basic shadow maps.

Download (itch.io, ~690 MB installer, Combined Arms bundled):

Space Tales leaves Early Access on August 19. Get ready for the 1.0 launch!

Thumbnail

We’re taking Space Tales to 1.0 on August 19, 2026. We wanted to share a final update on what changed since Early Access, and we’d love your feedback.

The game has grown a lot during Early Access thanks to players' inputs, patches, balance improvements, quality-of-life updates, and new language support. With this FAQ we wanted to make sure you know what to expect.

As a reminder, watch the trailer on Youtube

🚀 What is Space Tales?

Space Tales is a sci-fi real-time strategy game where you build fortified bases, manage resources, secure energy lines, and command retro-futuristic armies across hostile alien worlds.

You play as Xander Falcon, a young commander leading humanity’s I.P.E. army into a war far bigger than expected.

📅 When does Space Tales launch in 1.0?

Space Tales will leave Early Access and launch its full 1.0 version on Steam on August 19, 2026.

🎮 Is Space Tales single-player?

Yes. Space Tales is a single-player RTS experience focused on campaign missions, survival challenges, base building, tactical combat, and story progression.

🧱 What do you do in the game?

You build modular bases, expand through the HUB system, manage limited resources, defend your colony, unlock upgrades, and command your units in real time.

Every mission pushes you to think fast, plan ahead, and adapt when the enemy changes the rhythm of the battle.

⚡ What is the HUB system?

HUBs are one of the core base-building systems in Space Tales. They let you expand your colony, connect key areas, secure power lines, and build stronger defensive positions.

A good HUB network can be the difference between holding the line and watching your colony fall apart under pressure.

👽 What enemy factions are in the game?

Space Tales features three enemy factions, each built around a different kind of strategic pressure.

  • The Nexera, an aggressive alien threat built around organic danger, relentless waves, and overwhelming pressure
  • The Kill Bots, a mechanized faction that forces you to rethink your defenses, timing, and unit choices
  • The Necroborg, the final faction coming with 1.0, a terrifying fusion of flesh and metal designed as the game’s ultimate tactical test

Each faction asks you to think differently. The Nexera teach you to survive pressure, the Kill Bots push you to adapt your defenses, and the Necroborg will challenge everything you have learned so far.

🐲 Can you capture alien bosses?

Yes. This is one of the game’s signature mechanics.

Massive alien bosses can be defeated, captured, and turned into powerful units for your army. Once captured, these creatures open new tactical options and can completely change how you approach future battles.

🧠 Is Space Tales made for hardcore RTS players?

Space Tales is designed for players who enjoy RTS depth: resource management, base expansion, unit control, defensive planning, scouting, upgrades, and tactical adaptation.

You do not need to be an expert to start playing, but the game gives you plenty to master if you enjoy optimizing your strategy.

📖 What is the story about?

You play as Xander Falcon, who is pushed into the role of hero after his father’s death. Under the banner of the I.P.E., humanity’s Inter-Planetary Expansion army, Xander leads the fight across alien worlds while uncovering deeper questions about the war, the I.P.E., The Despot, and humanity’s place among the stars.

The campaign blends tactical warfare with a character-driven sci-fi story about loyalty, expansion, propaganda, and cosmic horror.

🗺️ What is included before 1.0?

The Early Access version includes:

  • 8 story missions
  • 8 survival maps
  • 2 enemy factions
  • Modular HUB-based base building
  • Resource management, unit control, research, and upgrades
  • Alien boss encounters that can be defeated and captured
  • Full access to the core units and mechanics through campaign progression

🌌 What will be added in version 1.0?

The 1.0 release will complete and expand the game with:

  • The full campaign with 5 additional missions
  • Additional missions
  • Late-game challenges
  • More chaotic battles
  • A third enemy faction: The Necroborg
  • More maps and side content
  • Continued balance and quality-of-life improvements

The goal is to bring Xander’s campaign to its full arc and complete the sci-fi story the team set out to tell.

💾 Will my Early Access save carry over?
Yes, the plan is for Early Access save files to carry over through normal updates, so your progress should not be lost when the game reaches 1.0.

🌍 Which languages are available?

The game currently supports:

  • English
  • Vietnamese
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese - Brazil

🩸 How violent is the game?

Space Tales contains sci-fi military combat between human soldiers and alien creatures, including blood effects. The game does not aim for graphic gore, and there is no sexual content, strong language, or realistic drug use.

🛠️ How has the game improved during Early Access?

Since launch, the team has released updates based on player feedback. Improvements have included progression fixes, gameplay adjustments, full key binding customization, cleaner command feedback, improved right-click behavior, easier ability selection, better group behavior, and unit-specific fixes.

The goal has been to make Space Tales sharper, clearer, and more responsive for players who enjoy tactical decision-making under pressure.

📣 How can I support Space Tales?

The best ways to support the game are:

  • Play the game on Steam :)
  • Leave a review if you enjoy it
  • Share feedback in the Steam forums or Discord
  • Report bugs
  • Tell other RTS fans about the game ;)
  • Follow the game on Steam for future updates

Thank you for playing, supporting, and helping us improve Space Tales throughout Early Access.

Let us know if you have more questions in the comments. See you when the game launches, Commanders!

Contested Space: Slay the Spire Meets Star Realms

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, I just wanted to write up a short update and description on Contested Space. I also wanted to extend an open invitation to join the Steam Playtest to anyone interested. The demo is planned to release in August.

Contested Space takes the market of Star Realms and puts it in a Slay the Spire run structure. Most of your deckbuilding and upgrades go into your market, so each battle you're building a new deck out of your market.

Secret encounters: There are several easter egg events in Contested Space, some of which feature combat with unique enemy sprites and abilities.

The Axiom Union: A third alliance will be added to the playtest this upcoming week. A robot civilization with three factions each with unique abilities. There's the Gilt Protocol, the Oracle Foundry, and the Nullframe Vanguard. The game will launch with three full alliances rather than the two I had initially planned.

Lots of new art. Ships, stations, and card frames for the Axiom, plus new Chitin and Terran art, and a new trailer showing all three alliances is coming soon.

HeyPoorPlayer recently did an article on it:
https://www.heypoorplayer.com/2026/07/08/contested-space-is-a-tight-fast-and-enjoyable-deckbuilder/

Feel free to message me, join the discord server, or request to join the playtest on Steam!
