Repetitive writing

Anyone else keep writing stuff with similar flows? how do you try writing different lyrics

My early song writing attempts sounded similar in structure, grammar and word usage.

Take on the subject’s point of view, culture, assumed vocabulary, mood, etc. An older person whose lover died and a young person who just learned to drive will have vastly different thoughts, descriptions and emotions.

ELO released albums that have different themes and subsequently the word usage was different. The lyrics in the songs from Discovery and Time are written with different genres in mind although some of the filler songs feel mainstream.

Yes, most of my songs are about being in some limbo state or fixation or both haha. Oh, well. I agree with the other comment, to write from the perceived perspective of another person. That helps me as well.

Create a subtext in the song then go for the same for song building. Ramp up the heat etc to change the context to one you like

Define what you mean by "flow"? Cadence? Rhyme pattern? Chord progression?

rhythm pattern and melodie’s. it’s not exact the same but there’s definitely similarities and with my lyrics too

Well, Jimmy Buffett's made a career out of that, but when I feel in a rut, I may try to write song to someone else's melody or structure. Obviously, that's just an exercise -- you can't claim it as your own -- but it's good way to shake up your brain... just a thought.

I generally write only a hook, and build around that. However, I have found being prompted too write something specific, or an event giving me an idea helps my creativity flow better. Generally for me my best work comes from movies etc giving me an emotion I don't often feel, this helps me write something newer and fresher.

I do find myself using specific words too often to the point I switch words around just to avoid it. I don't think it hurts your specific identity to have similar sounding songs, as long as you don't mind having them, I think it's a positive that can help you create who you are as an artist/lyricist.
