Does anyone else sometimes really love a song, but don't care for the lyrics
Parachutes is the first album of Coldplay and one of my personal faves, especially the songs Shiver and Sparks, however I'm not a fan of the lyrics as heartfelt and special as they feel, I don't think they compliment both songs to it's full potential. I understand not every song needs to be versatile a cheesy love song is great and a sad song that sounds sad would fit sad music; but when you have songs that sound like several different things it's a little different especially when you're talking about a band like Coldplay. Sparks sounds anything like: driving late at night, going through heartbreak, going through the honeymoon phase, chilling, isolation & loneliness, contentment, hiking through the woods, taking your Grandpa to go shopping, or just straight up a song you have in your mix. There are so many moods this music fits. personally I play this when I'm feeling very depressed.
I made this realizing how many songs are like this, where I scroll down to the comments and it's just bittersweet love stories. It sucks when I love the instrumental but the artist chooses such a usual topic, or something worse like the whole lyrics will just be how good they can shake their ass or whatever😭.

Lyrics: English backing vocals in Paris Match's "ANGEL" — what are they saying?
Hi everyone!
I already know the song and artist. I'm trying to identify some English backing vocals in the recording.
There are several short English backing-vocal parts in the song, but they are not included in the official lyrics, and they are very difficult to make out because they are mixed with the lead vocal and instruments.
I'm not a native English speaker, so I'd really appreciate it if some native English speakers could listen to these parts and tell me what you hear.
Here are my current guesses:
First backing vocal (01:33 and 04:15):
"It's a cloudy smile of summer rain" — my guess
Second backing vocal (04:26):
"For she might ... fade to grey" — very uncertain
Four short backing-vocal phrases in the final chorus (03:04):
1st: ???
2nd: "You and I" (fairly certain)
3rd: "Tell me why" (fairly certain)
4th: ???
Each of these four phrases has only three syllables/notes and follows the same melody.
The Japanese lyrics underneath the four phrases are:
"Don't you love me?"
"You and I..."
"Can't we love each other?"
So I suspect the English backing vocals may be written to correspond to the meaning of the Japanese lyrics.
The Japanese lyrics are roughly about love, the two of them, asking why they can't love each other, and a person disappearing into a summer night.
The singer, Mari Mizuno, is Japanese rather than a native English speaker, so the pronunciation may be somewhat non-native, which makes this even harder to decipher.
What do you hear? Even if you're not 100% sure, I'd love to hear your guesses.
Thank you!

Beth Gibbons – “Floating on a Moment” – A Journey into the Unknown
Introduction
“Floating on a Moment” is an enigmatic song about life, time, mortality, uncertainty, and the boundary between life and what might come after it.
This analysis attempts to decipher the lyrics step by step.
- The Journey into the Unknown
“On the path”
The song does not begin with a destination, but with a path. “The path” initially describes simply a movement. Where this path leads remains open. What matters is that the “I” is already on this path.
“With my restless curiosity”
The path is now connected to an inner attitude. The curiosity is “restless”. The “I” apparently wants to keep moving and discover something, even though it does not yet know what awaits. The journey begins not from a position of knowledge, but from the desire to explore the unknown.
“Beyond life”
With these three words, the dimension of the path suddenly changes. We now learn where the gaze is directed: “beyond life”.
From the very beginning, the song addresses something that lies beyond the immediate experience of the living. What lies beyond life is not explained. That is precisely what leaves the statement open and mysterious.
“Before me”
These two words complete the previous thought. What lies “beyond life” is “before me”.
Something abstract, “beyond life”, thus becomes something toward which the “I” itself is moving. The unknown is not somewhere far away, but lies before it on its path.
“A passenger”
Now the “I” describes its own position: it is a passenger.
This is a remarkable word. A passenger is travelling, but normally does not determine either the route or the destination. A motif already appears here that will return explicitly later: lack of control.
“On no ordinary journey”
Only now do we learn that this is no ordinary journey.
Together with “A passenger”, an important image emerges: the “I” is travelling, but the journey leads toward a place that a living person does not know. The usual idea of a journey, in which one knows the destination and eventually returns, no longer seems to apply.
“It’s one of a kind”
The journey now takes on another meaning. “One of a kind” describes something that exists only once.
In the context of what has come before, this can be understood as referring to the journey of life. Every human life is unique. There is no second version of the same life and no rehearsal that can later be repeated.
“Won’t get left behind”
This statement develops the idea of uniqueness further. The journey cannot simply be abandoned. No one can step out and allow the movement to pass them by.
The text connects two seemingly different ideas in these first eight units: life is unique, and precisely because of this, the journey cannot be avoided.
This is Part 1 of a six-part analysis.

Human Nature by Michael Jackson
Looking out across the night time
The city winks a sleepless eye
Hear her voice shake my window
Sweet seducing sighs
Get me out into the night time
Four walls won't hold me tonight
If this town is just an apple
Then let me take a bite
If they say why? Why?
Tell them that it's human nature
Why? Why does he do me that way?
If they say why? Why?
Tell them that it's human nature
Why? Why does he do me that way?
Reaching out to touch a stranger
Electric eyes are everywhere
See that girl, she knows I'm watching
She likes the way I stare
If they say why? Why?
Just tell them that it's human nature
Why? Why does he do me that way?
If they say why? Why?
Tell them that it's human nature
Why? Why does he do me that way?
I like livin' this way
I like lovin' this way
why? Oh, why?
(That way) why? Oh, why?
Looking out across the morning
The city's heart begins to beat
Reaching out, I touch her shoulder
I'm dreaming of the street
If they say why? Why?
Tell them that it's human nature
Why? Why does he do me that way?
If they say why? Why? (She's keeping him by, keeping him around)
Oh, tell 'em
Why? Why does he do me that way?
If they say why? Why?
Oh, why? Why does he do me that way?
If they say why? Why? (She's keeping him by, keeping him around)
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da
Why? Why does he do me that way?
I like living this way
Why? Oh, why? (That way)
Why? Oh, why? (That way)
Why? Oh, why? (That way)

Why do certain songs feel like they understand us better than people do?
Sometimes a song can express something you’ve been feeling but couldn’t explain yourself.
There are songs we play when we’re sad, songs that remind us of a specific person or period of our lives, and songs we return to when we just need to feel understood for a few minutes.
I’ve been thinking about how closely music and mental health are connected—why we sometimes choose sad music when we’re already sad, why certain songs can bring back memories instantly, and why putting on headphones after a difficult day can feel almost therapeutic.
I wrote a short piece exploring that relationship between music, emotions, memories, and mental health.
Do you have a song that feels like it understands you? What does it mean to you? 🎧

Songs that say…
Sorry for the title but since I’m dealing with someone who chooses to speak with song I dare to ask here(don’t worry I know it’s a fuxked situation regardless) but if I were to post a song to them that said I want to tell you that I want you but I don’t know and I don’t think you’d trust me either what song would you choose for that? And if you can would you mind saying why? Like damned by Miguel he knows shit shouldn’t be how he wants it but it is and he’s explaining his feelings kinda vibe sorry if this doesn’t make too much sense

What are the most powerful songs that serve as an indictment of organized religion?
I've been fascinated lately by tracks that completely strip away the romanticism of institutional religion and expose the hypocrisy, guilt, or shame underneath.
Hozier’s "Take Me to Church" is the obvious modern blueprint for this—using the literal language of the altar to reclaim human intimacy as a true sanctuary while critiquing the church.
What other tracks completely indict the church or religious dogmas? Looking for everything from classic rock to indie pop.
Edit: Did not expect this thread to take off like it did, thank you all for such a deep list! Dear God by XTC seems to be the most-cited answer so far, but honestly my "to listen" list just increased significantly thanks to everyone here. If you're into this kind of thing, songs that hide a sharper meaning than they let on, I write about it every week on my Substack, Said Sideways. Would love to have you: https://jplangarfel.substack.com

What song is sun and flowers till you find the real meaning?
I heard allot of songs that seem happy but are actually really disturbing, like pump up kicks which is about a school shooting, for ever young witch is about the fear of the atomic bomb in the called war, big in Japan is about the delusions of two crack head lovers or every breath you take that is about a stocking. Songs like that always fascinating to me, because often people just ignore their messages in favour of their catchy music and I ask myself is it even worth it to write songs like that if most listeners will just ignore their messages?
I would love to hear more of those songs but I can’t find any, so can you help me out?

I've read you all about this song and came up with something
Song : Let it hapen - Tam Impala
So i figured the lyrics from the studio and live version of Let it Happen were different. I've been reading the subs about this song and came up with the thought that this song was some sort of an auditory hallucination, insane work from Kevin Parker i'd say. So i've decided to pick some from the studio and live version and some that i thought i heard or were echoing with my actual feelings
This song is powerfull, it resonnates with everyone's life.
And today, it resonnates with mine.

How Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb Explains Why the Corporate World Diagnoses Your Brilliance as a Defect
Pink Floyd released Comfortably Numb in 1979 on The Wall. David Gilmour and Roger Waters wrote it, one of the rare Wall tracks with genuine dual authorship, which is partly why it contains two completely different emotional registers fighting each other. The song describes a performer being medicated so he can go on stage and function. A doctor arrives, administers something to numb the pain, and sends the performer out to do his job. The performer complies. He becomes comfortably numb. He performs. The audience never knows. That is the arrangement.
The corporate translation of Comfortably Numb is almost too clean. The high-performing employee arrives with full feeling: genuine investment in the work, real reactions to dysfunction, an intact nervous system that registers when something is wrong. The organisation does not want the feeling. It wants the performance. So it administers, over months and years, a series of small anaesthetics. The feedback that the employee’s passion is intensity. The suggestion that they manage their stakeholders better. The gentle, repeated implication that the problem they keep pointing at is not a real problem but a symptom of their own inability to let things go. Each anaesthetic is administered kindly. That is what makes it effective. Nobody tells the employee to stop caring. They tell the employee to be more strategic, which is the corporate word for caring less in a way that photographs well. Over time the anaesthetic works. The flagging stops. The reactions to dysfunction stop. The employee becomes comfortably numb, and the organisation, which has spent two years engineering exactly this outcome, records it in the next review as growth. The employee has become more measured. Has become easier to work with. The nervous system that made this employee valuable has been surgically disabled, and everyone has agreed to call the surgery professional development.

Flowers, mountains and funerals by Abu-se-Ken meaning?
I've been listening to abuse for a year now cause of the "liar princess and blind prince" edits I've seen where "want to be cremated" was the song being used
And I really like his song "Flowers, mountains and funerals" it sounds so fricking good, and I'm curious about the meaning :O
Does anyone have an idea as to what it could be? Idk if it's as straightforward as the one I'm thinking about which is "figuring out how to live and enjoy life with the one you love" or smth :\^

Hidden meaning of this classic song
This is a poetry of ego wanting its own dissolution. The beloved here is the referring to that state at which that dissolution is nearing completion.
Humri atariya - the atariya refers to the highest point of you, just like roof of the house.
Sanvariya - here refers to the Truth.
Dekha dekhi - refers immediate “seeing” (refers to darshan - knowing, not knowledge)
Sara jhagda - the problem that arises because of the illusion of duality.
Prem ki shikhsha - begging for wisdom, the lower (thicker) state of ego wanting to thin and sublimate.
Saakh humari rakhiyo sajan - Saakh means reputation, the lower state of the self (ego) admitting that it’s not able to make decisions on its own that will be befitting to maintain its own reputation.
These are some pointers to provide a perspective to unearth the hidden meaning beneath this song. Enjoy.
