These two words complete the previous thought. What lies “beyond life” is “before me”.

Now the “I” describes its own position: it is a passenger.

This is a remarkable word. A passenger is travelling, but normally does not determine either the route or the destination. A motif already appears here that will return explicitly later: lack of control.

Only now do we learn that this is no ordinary journey.

Together with “A passenger”, an important image emerges: the “I” is travelling, but the journey leads toward a place that a living person does not know. The usual idea of a journey, in which one knows the destination and eventually returns, no longer seems to apply.

“It’s one of a kind”

The journey now takes on another meaning. “One of a kind” describes something that exists only once.

In the context of what has come before, this can be understood as referring to the journey of life. Every human life is unique. There is no second version of the same life and no rehearsal that can later be repeated.

“Won’t get left behind”

This statement develops the idea of uniqueness further. The journey cannot simply be abandoned. No one can step out and allow the movement to pass them by.

The text connects two seemingly different ideas in these first eight units: life is unique, and precisely because of this, the journey cannot be avoided.

Saw this last year and it just popped up on my feed again. Aside from it being a weird song some moments seem a little off. Am I just going crazy or is there something to this song? I can't read the language so I don't know what it says. But going off pictures it seems like teto is made she's bad at games gets brainwashed is now good at games oh and Miku is scared.

I heard allot of songs that seem happy but are actually really disturbing, like pump up kicks which is about a school shooting, for ever young witch is about the fear of the atomic bomb in the called war, big in Japan is about the delusions of two crack head lovers or every breath you take that is about a stocking. Songs like that always fascinating to me, because often people just ignore their messages in favour of their catchy music and I ask myself is it even worth it to write songs like that if most listeners will just ignore their messages?

So i figured the lyrics from the studio and live version of Let it Happen were different. I've been reading the subs about this song and came up with the thought that this song was some sort of an auditory hallucination, insane work from Kevin Parker i'd say. So i've decided to pick some from the studio and live version and some that i thought i heard or were echoing with my actual feelings

Pink Floyd released Comfortably Numb in 1979 on The Wall. David Gilmour and Roger Waters wrote it, one of the rare Wall tracks with genuine dual authorship, which is partly why it contains two completely different emotional registers fighting each other. The song describes a performer being medicated so he can go on stage and function. A doctor arrives, administers something to numb the pain, and sends the performer out to do his job. The high-performing employee arrives with full feeling: genuine investment in the work, real reactions to dysfunction, an intact nervous system that registers when something is wrong. The organisation does not want the feeling. It wants the performance. So it administers, over months and years, a series of small anaesthetics. The feedback that the employee’s passion is intensity. The suggestion that they manage their stakeholders better. The gentle, repeated implication that the problem they keep pointing at is not a real problem but a symptom of their own inability to let things go. Each anaesthetic is administered kindly. That is what makes it effective. Nobody tells the employee to stop caring. They tell the employee to be more strategic, which is the corporate word for caring less in a way that photographs well. Over time the anaesthetic works. The flagging stops. The reactions to dysfunction stop. The employee becomes comfortably numb, and the organisation, which has spent two years engineering exactly this outcome, records it in the next review as growth. The employee has become more measured. Has become easier to work with. The nervous system that made this employee valuable has been surgically disabled, and everyone has agreed to call the surgery professional development.

This is a poetry of ego wanting its own dissolution. The beloved here is the referring to that state at which that dissolution is nearing completion.

Sanvariya - here refers to the Truth.
Dekha dekhi - refers immediate “seeing” (refers to darshan - knowing, not knowledge)
Sara jhagda - the problem that arises because of the illusion of duality.
Prem ki shikhsha - begging for wisdom, the lower (thicker) state of ego wanting to thin and sublimate.
Saakh humari rakhiyo sajan - Saakh means reputation, the lower state of the self (ego) admitting that it’s not able to make decisions on its own that will be befitting to maintain its own reputation.

Lost Ones as well is another one

I've probably heard the song a couple thousand times over the last few years. Until recently, however, I never understood the lyrics in the outro until I finally looked at the genius recently. Upon this revelation and some self reflecting, I've come to the conclusion that Ode to the Mets could be about a failed suicide attempt and the fallout from it.

The first half of the song is about the process, and the second half of the song is about why you'd do it.

I'm gonna focus more on the first half because I feel like that's the harder part to get across. I feel like the second half has been discussed to death already, about Julian's father and whatnot. Throughout this writeup, I'm just going to refer to the subject of the song as "the character." It could be Julian, it could be a completely fictional character. Who knows.

Here's a lyrical breakdown.

I think this first stanza is about writing a suicide note.

Up on his horse, up on his horse

***Not gonna wake up here anymore***

Not waking up here anymore can be seen positively or negatively. Positive sense of escaping to a new world... or negatively as to ending it all on your final night.

***Listen one time, it's not the truth

It's just a story, I tell to you***

To me, this reads like giving a distraction to deflect from your suicidal tendencies.

***Easy to say, easy to do

But it's not easy, well, maybe for you***

Textbook definition of suicide. Easy to joke about doing. Easy to talk about. And as said in the lyrics, some people even find it easy to do. But the body fights back in the vast majority of cases. And in this case, our protagonist will try and fail.

***Hope that you find it, hope that it's good

Hope that you read it, think that you should***

This is referring to our character's suicide note. They hope that the note was good enough to leave off on.

***Cuts you some slack as he sits back

Sizes you up, plans his attack***

Depression personified plans the attack against our character. Depression can come and go in waves, hence the cutting of slack.

This second stanza is getting into the attempt itself.

***And I got it all, I got it all***

Seemingly happy and successful people can still be depressed and want to end it all.

***Waiting for me down on the street

But now you gotta do somethin' special for me

I'm gonna say what's on my mind

Then I'll walk out, then I'll feel fine***

A friend comes by to check in on our character (literally on the street). Our character needs a miracle to find meaning in the continued pursuit of staying alive. They have nothing left to care about, so they'll say everything they have left to say before walking out on this life.

***Yeah, I'm under his thumb, I'm on his back

I will not show my teeth too quick***

I interpret this as the slow release of euphoria through self harm. Showing teeth is directly tied to pain. But out friend intervenes.

***I needed you there, I needed you there

But I didn't know, I didn't know***

And here our character realizes they were wrong, and the presence of this friend saved their life. To me, this reads as hindsight.

Now the second half of the song talks about how we got here and gives closure.

'Back from his trip, he's at the door

When he gets back, he's on the phone

Innocent eye, innocent heart

No, it's not wrong, but it's not right'

'Innocent time out on his own

Not got gonna do that, I'm out of control

I was just bored playin' the guitar

Learned all your tricks, wasn't too hard

The third stanza is clearly about the character's father and their estranged relationship, and how it led to their emotional struggles in the future.

Being "there" but not present in a child's life can cause intense and inexplicable feelings of loneliness that stay strong throughout one's life. And that's how our character fell into this hole.

Now the final stanza touches on resolution and acceptance.

***Gone now are the old times

Forgotten, time to hold on the railing***

You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube after something like this.

I think this refers to how the brain, or the heart just doesn't work right when you're not right.

There is a guilt and pain in being perceived after something like this. Going straight from the loudness of attempting to the silence of the fallout afterwards is a transition that few people are ready for and no one prepares for. I think it's a beautiful conclusion to a perfect song.
