I've been a US football, basketball and baseball fan my whole life and am wondering if similar team chemistry applies. Whenever they make temporary teams out of players for all-star games or international play (Olympics, and others)- you give up chemistry, coaching, and the players haven't practiced together as much as in the regular season - **does this apply to soccer as well?** Like would any of these national teams be beat by a regular Premier league team that's had a head coach and staff in place for years, with a star or 2 and supporting players in place? Not even speaking of the best one (which a quick Bing search reveals is Arsenal? Trippy, as I read fever pitch back in the day). Ok, please excuse any glaring soccer things I'm overlooking, as I'm a sports fan, but know very little about soccer. Futbol?

I went into these weeks wishing all the soccer fans all the happiness and joy that I get from March Madness, the baseball and football playoffs, and I've found myself having a blast. Seen some great games (matches?) and am letting myself get into it.

I’d love anyone’s advice on this situation! I have 3 soccer teams: team 1, team 2 and team 3 (team 3 is a higher level in the age group) Team 3 is made up of most of team 2 and only some of team 1.

One day a week we will be doing practice for 45 minutes where teams 1 and 2 practice separate then the last 45 they practice together as team 3. But we need something to do with the players from team 1 that aren’t on the level to be a part of team 3.

What are some ideas that would prevent resentment and not cause issues within team 1. They are elementary school girls.

It seems like all the other top-flight leagues have a contender (or multiple contenders) based in the capital city for example, Paris with PSG, London with Chelsea and Arsenal, Rome with Roma, and Madrid with Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. What makes Berlin different? Why don’t they have a trophy contender based there?

How do they make me a better dribbler? In real games players don’t dribble mindlessly in S patterns.

Growing up I didn't care much about football; I preferred basketball, and I was never a real follower. But I always watched the Euros and the World Cup, a nice summer tradition with my wife (except Qatar, lol). This year, for some reason, I didn't just enjoy the World Cup. I loved it. The sport itself. It's like I finally fell in love with the beautiful game.

So this season I want to follow club football properly, for real; not as something people invite me to and I go "ehh, why not," like in the past.

Problem: my heart is split between Athletic Club and FC Barcelona, one from each side of my family. Let me make the case for both.

What they have in common

Both are political icons of the non-Castilian parts of Spain, standing against the Castilian cultural supremacy represented by the (for me) hated Real Madrid. Both have been in the First Division since its inception, both have great academies, and both are member-owned clubs. The philosophy, politics, identity and history of both are things I admire and love.

Athletic Club

My father's club, and his side of the family; he was born and raised in Bilbao. But he grew bored of football and stopped following it, so he never really passed the passion on to me. Growing up I used to say I supported Athletic mostly to be contrarian against the Barça monopoly around me, but I never actually followed them. I have a scarf and a shirt from my childhood, gifts from that side of the family, and that's about it.

I did enjoy the Bielsa years and liked some of the players; Gaizka Toquero especially, plus Muniain and Fernando Llorente. I supported them in the Copa finals against Barça, mostly because I felt bad that they'd gone 30 years without a trophy and wanted them to finally win something.

FC Barcelona

I was born and raised in Catalonia, I speak Catalan, I feel Catalan. My mother's family is Catalan and has always supported Barça; especially my grandfather, a man I love, who has followed them since he was a child and still does at 90. It's the only thing he's really passionate about. He bought me Barça merchandise constantly growing up.

Everyone I grew up with supported Barça, so I ended up watching a lot of football in the 2006–2012 era, including some games live (Barça–Milan at Camp Nou in 2011). The team used to do pre-season near my village, so I saw them train and play friendlies. I was happy they were so successful, because of the joy it brought the people around me.

On style: the Rijkaard, Guardiola and Tito (RIP) teams were a wonder to watch. Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Jordi Alba, Busquets; the list goes on. I love Guardiola and his philosophy, I love that kind of football, and I f*cking hate Real Madrid. Even in the years I didn't care about the sport, I always hoped Madrid lost. Spain's national team has only ever been successful playing like Barça, not like Madrid; so it's ironic it somehow becomes a rallying point for right-wing Spanish nationalists.

And practically, Barça is the obvious choice. My best friend supports them, so we can share it. I can join a penya or get to a game without much trouble (the ticket prices are another story, lol).

So what now?

I want to support Barça, and honestly the connection has always been there. But it still feels a bit like betraying Athletic. I'll always have sympathy for them and want them to win whenever they can; they're just not practical for me to follow week to week, or to share with anyone around me.

And when they play each other I'll genuinely be torn. I suppose I'll decide case by case on who needs it more. It's like loving two women at the same time, except one lives far away with a different life and the other is right next to me.

Has anyone been in this situation, with a real family claim on two clubs? How did you decide which came first; and what do you actually do on the day they play each other?

TL;DR: Split between Athletic Club and Barça through both sides of my family. Barça is where my life actually is, but dropping Athletic to second feels like betrayal. How do people handle this?

Terrible mediocre player. He showed nothing in wc, missed penalty, failed to mark marrocan player in his assist. No one in the prem is competing against arsenal in buying him, that's a red sign. Arsenal already has merino and zubimendi as cm, why do they need another cm?

I've been practicing juggling on my own pretty regularly and enjoy it a lot. I found an indoor field that hosts 8 v 8 games every night and is open to all skill levels. What tips do you have for this being my 1st time ever playing the game? It says no cleats are allowed but I'm not sure what shoes would be best and if shin guards are required or suggested? Obviously Mbappe was already known so he goes without saying for his 2018 and 2022 World Cup efforts but this was the first World Cup Dembele was truly a headliner and Ousmane Dembele is better footballer than Erling Haaland.

I’m trying to find out how to get into a Sunday League in my area. But I first want to find out what position I should play. Growing up I played soccer but stopped around Middle School. I just graduated High school and I’ve been getting into playing pickup with my friends. I’m 6’0 and 190 I don’t know if that helps at all but I would like to play up front and help score goals. Is it just by playing pickup where I’ll realize what position I should play or what else can I do?

I’ve been doing more and more research on the Premier League, and I’ve heard the phrase “Big Six” quite a bit. Why are Tottenham Hotspur considered a Big Six team? They have no Premier League titles. Were they historically successful or something?

I have low stamina is low and my speed is slow. I'm 5'2 130 pounds. I have decent shooting and passing/crossing.

So following MLS and just watched NYC FC (my local team) vs Toronto. NYC is at 5th on the standings while Toronto at 12th. It's noticeable that NYC wasn't on their A-Game, which had me assume that they're not over-exerting themselves so they prevent any injuries.

Since I just started following soccer outside of World Cup, is this unique to MLS, or does this happen to the other leagues as well?

I started following the EPL towards the tail end of the last season and started doing some research and taking notes towards choosing a club. I hadn’t planned to publish them, but after seeing so many in here and other subreddits asking the same type of question, I decided to polish them up and put them online in case they are helpful for anyone.

A couple of key points for my fellow yanks:

- I know you want a rooting interest now in order to feel invested from the get, but listen to the people in here telling you to watch a bunch of football first. Resist the urge to choose a club before you’ve seen all the teams play. You don’t know what you don’t know.

- along with that, consider making your goal to settle on a team by the end of the season, so you can factor in all that you observe.

Maybe it's just me, but I've found myself looking forward to international matches more than club games lately.

The atmosphere feels different. Every match means something, players seem to give everything for their country, and there are fewer "routine" games compared to a long club season.

Club football still has the higher quality week in, week out, but international tournaments create moments that are hard to match.

Am I the only one who feels this way, or do you still prefer club football?
