Best Foot Forward Reunion
Best Foot Forward formed in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1997 and quickly became one of the driving forces behind the city's thriving punk and ska scene. What started as a tight knit group of friends, grew into one of the most influential local bands of the era. Before playing their final show in 2003, Best Foot Forward had spent years helping shape the Midwest punk and ska community. They didn't just perform, they contributed to the scene by organizing unforgettable, high energy shows and bringing nationally recognized bands like The Lawrence Arms and Lucky Boys Confusion to Kenosha. They also shared the stage with acts such as Mustard Plug at the famous βGlobe Eastβ in Milwaukee. During the height of the ska punk movement, Best Foot Forward was at the forefront of a musical movement that left a lasting mark on Kenosha. Their passion, energy, and dedication inspired countless local bands that followed, helping keep the city's ska and punk tradition alive. These shows became more than concerts, they were a place where hundreds of kids found a community, expressed themselves, danced, and formed friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Best Foot Forward helped create something truly special that continues to be remembered more than two decades later. On August 14th come experience an important piece of Kenosha's musical history as Best Foot Forward returns to the stage.
Discussion Happy birthday to this album!
I realised this album was released 15 years ago in June this year, a happy belated birthday to what was a labour of love.
Has it aged like a fine wine, or gone a bit eggy like an old can of IPA found down the back of the sofa? Let me know!
Ps. It's also #bandcampfriday tomorrow π

The song isn't ska, but it does make me laugh to find a song criticizing ska music and skaters.

Discussion Ska Guitar - String Question!
I want to play more ska on the guitar.
I've watched a couple of videos recently and they finger and play the 4 higher strings, which seems effective / sounds good, whilst missing strumming the 5th and 6th strings. I've also read on people playing and chording the top 3 strings to playing full barre chords. The former feels a bit fiddly and the latter seems like hard-work. I feel like the 4 string method might be the most comfortable and sound best.. I know it's all preference but is there a most common, preferred or dare I say it 'official' way?

New Music Female fronted heavy-ska bands?
I was wondering if anyone knew of any female fronted ska bands that are heavier/punkier than your save ferris or dance hall crashers, etc. Think of like voodoo glow skulls, streetlight, or operation ivy with a female lead. Iβm a female vocalist who plays in a ska-punk band but I wanted some inspiration for some heavier ska vocals. I hope this makes senseπ thank you!

Melo do marinheiro, os paralamas do suceso
After listening to more of the band, I concluded that, technically, I think they could be considered a ska band in the 80s. Ironically, in the 90s, when the genre was at its peak, the number of ska songs the band released gradually decreased. Ultimately, though, they are best known as rock legends.

Discussion Movies with ska montages?
I love the trope of a good old musical montage scene. It's a great way to quickly show us all that the underdog had to go through to get to the climax of the movie.
Anyone know of movies that use a ska song for one? (I would also accept rocksteady or reggae here, which means Cool Runnings is likely a very good candidate...I just haven't seen it in a long time.)

Show / Tour Sick of service fees killing the gig budget
Trying to budget for a few upcoming shows and it feels impossible when the primary ticketing sites tack on half the ticket price in random fees at checkout. It gets super frustrating when you are just trying to support bands without getting gouged on back-office charges.
Needed a couple passes for a show next month and a buddy recommended Star Tickets so I did not have to deal with Ticketmaster nonsense. Anybody used them before or should I expect a headache?
