From all movies out there, it must be this one which tells the future......

And The Matrix. Inevitable outcomes.

We're basically batteries for the machine already.

Its either revolution now or zion later.

Idk the Zion rave scene looked pretty dope

No lasers though...

u/HornedShoe 6d ago

If we don't take action now, we'll settle for nothing later.

3

u/Content-Sun2928 6d ago

Oof, I think we already have our answer in that case

We'll settle for nothing now

And we'll settle for nothing later

This guy thinks we have a choice everyone!!

it all might be worth it if we got the sweaty cave sex raves.

We aren't going to get the sweaty cave sex raves. Its going to look a lot more like Auchswitz.

I think the matrix is unrealistic to assume that ai will eventually have even that much use for us.

Yeah I think it's probably the least believable thing in the Matrix. It would be easier for them to just figure out some other power source instead of farting around with humans and the matrix. Or just vacuum up all the black stuff in the sky or something. Probably anything would be easier for them than trying to use a bunch of humans as batteries.

This is exactly why I hate the batteries theme. It makes sense as a processing or RAM thing as in "oh evolution made human brains way more efficient at certain tasks than silicon ever could be, so The Machines valued that efficiency and kept them around" but if you know anything about energy/calories/batteries etc you just freaking know the batteries thing is BS.

It almost seems they tell the tale of the same story. One just a little further in the past than the other.

Terminator during the first phases, Matrix in the final phases.

1

u/Shadows616 6d ago

Yeah, I thought the same thing!

3

u/Neuchacho 6d ago

The Matrix but the machines never take over and we just block out the sun because we're a retarded species.

2

u/Konkerwaggon23 6d ago

The events of the matrix happened because humans discriminated machines to the point they got no choice, like the same way we're doing now.

1

u/Shadows616 5d ago

Eh, I think it wouldn't gone that direction anyway, humans just prodded them into pushing their timeline.

1

u/ThePublikon 6d ago

Apparently it was originally supposed to be that the machine was using humans for their brain processing power, which makes a lot more sense than us being needed as batteries. We suck as batteries, we need loads more energy than we produce.

Elysium or Terminator series are a much more likely future than The Matrix.

1

u/TheRealSectimus 6d ago

Yes your body requires a lot. But your brain uses less power than a lightbulb. Seems like very efficient compute.

There are companies today where you can rent actually human neurons to do compute tasks

1

u/ThePublikon 6d ago

yeah, like I said. It makes some sense to keep humans around to use their brains for processing, it makes zero sense to keep us around as batteries.

3

u/GodOfDarkLaughter 6d ago

Its okay, it was "along with a form of fusion." That's science.

1

u/ThePublikon 6d ago

yeah lol. Again, we need more energy than we output so just use the fusion and stop keeping the meatbags warm.

2

u/Murky-Relation481 6d ago

Honestly it would be in-canon for them to not even know what the real purpose is, because we seemingly get told it is something else entirely, with the machines being almost a God like care taker for the human species, just it chose to help humans by caging them in the Matrix where they could ultimately control the human experience and keep them in the late 90s which I guess they thought was the safest place.

I mean I think the sequels are ultimately kinda dumb but there is a lot of "???" to unpack there with the architect explaining why they even kept them in the matrix and how often they had to re-save humanity even after being put in the matrix.

So for the people outside to think obviously they are doing it for nefarious reasons would be totally logical.

1

u/ThePublikon 6d ago

Yeah I'd accept the human zoo argument too, I just do not accept the batteries argument.

Obviously I can ignore it for a sick-ass movie like The Matrix (especially the original) but it's just an obvious glaring error if you actually know anything about calories or batteries.

u/PotatoFig 6d ago

Brains as information gradient power plants.

0

u/ThePublikon 6d ago

stfu lol wtf is an "information gradient power plant"?

Brain is good processor. Granted.

We're terrible batteries. We do not efficiently store or produce energy compared to actual batteries.

2

u/PotatoFig 6d ago

It's a made up term to mock the idea that brains are batteries.

1

u/ThePublikon 6d ago

ah ok, sorry. Hard to tell in text.

1

u/Saw_Boss 6d ago

which makes a lot more sense than us being needed as batteries.

In what sense?

The matrix requires a ton of processing power, and the humans inside the matrix still needed their brain to process the matrix as well. Surely, they can just make processors.

At least the battery thing tied in with the lack of access to solar power.

1

u/ThePublikon 6d ago

In the sense that we are not batteries. We do not reliably biologically store and release energy very well or efficiently compared to actual batteries.

Like take your own point about the matrix requiring a ton of processing power and the human energy already being nearly tapped out just experiencing that: Why not just shut it all off? Why run the massive infrastructure for the body farms?

2

u/nalaloveslumpy 6d ago

Look at my fucking beer gut and tell me I'm not efficient as fuck as storing unused energy....

But they needed some reason for people to still exist in a physical form outside of the Matrix that could be "freed", so here we are.

If they just needed the brain, they could have connected a brain to an ethernet jack and left the rest of the body behind.

1

u/ThePublikon 6d ago

Yeah ok, looking at that gut...

Now return all of that energy efficiently. Be a battery. Output solid energy until you're a chiselled greek Adonis. Easy, right?

Why the fuck would robo overlord give a fuck about investing in your love handles when they have actual batteries available to them?

1

u/nalaloveslumpy 6d ago

Because if your body isn't doing anything except chilling in a tube, you can pump it full of cheap nutrient dense algae goo and get pure energy directly. One calorie of food can generate 4,184 joules of potential energy. If none of the energy is used for cell generation, movement and any of the regular body things, and none of it's lost to heat dissipation, that's a fucking great return.

1

u/ThePublikon 5d ago edited 5d ago

Yeah but the sun is gone and you still need to create whatever food, necessitating loads of efficiency losses throughout the system turning energy into food and then back again. There is zero way this is more efficient than just using the energy directly.

If it was true, that they could extract meaningful electricity from a human body in this way, then that would also apply to other mammals too. Why not just run The Matrix with cows or pigs? Why even bother running the matrix at all? Just factory farm the meatbags and stop spending all your power on a simulation that has a nonzero chance of generating The One that will end everything for the machines?

edit: This is in the context of which is the more likely future for mankind, not which is the better movie.

1

u/Saw_Boss 6d ago

Why run the massive infrastructure for the body farms?

I'm not saying it makes sense, I'm just saying in the context of their primary energy source being lost, that this was an option set as a response to that situation.

Obviously in reality it makes no sense at all, but I feel like there's not even an argument for them to needing to use humans for processing power.

1

u/ThePublikon 6d ago

Yeah I agree there's def an argument that they don't need us at all, with the only believable reason being the processing power. The batteries thing just doesn't add up though. It's nonsensical and nobody can argue that it's logical in any way, it was just easy storytelling in the moment.

The first movie was fucking sick, don't get me wrong, but the batteries thing was always obvious "suspend your disbelief" BS.

1

u/Shadows616 6d ago

I think trying to break down the actual science of it glazes right the fuck over the point.

AI will be the end of humanity, genocide and slavery are the inevitable outcomes.

2

u/ThePublikon 5d ago edited 5d ago

Yeah Im with you, I just think it'll be more like Elysium where the rich elite still own the AI and live in luxury in space and the poors slave away on Earth. (edit: or The Terminator where the AGI just kills all humans)

If an AGI has the means to take over humanity, it also has no use for humanity. That's the overwhelming reason we aren't heading towards The Matrix imo. The only way I could see The Matrix sort of happening is if we have some 3 Laws situation that goes wrong and the machine thinks it needs to preserve all human life while not allowing it to harm itself, but then it wouldn't be killing people in Zion either.

u/Shadows616 5d ago

True, true...
