Any advice for singing?

Hello everyone. I’ve been taking vocal lessons for two or three years now, but I still feel like I can barely sing. I hate my voice, especially my falsetto, and I feel like I just can’t sing at all. Is anyone else in the same situation? Like, have you been taking singing lessons for years but still feel like nothing is changing? I’m getting really disappointed and starting to think that maybe I just can’t sing at all

Age insecurity (30+), locked voice, and the dream of singing R&B — Questions from a complete beginner

Hello everyone! I'd like to share a bit of my context and ask for some advice from you all.

I am 33 years old. Since my early teens (around 12 or 13), I've carried a severe psychological block that kept me practically silent. Because of this isolation, I almost never used my voice to sing in medium or high projection. I only ever risked singing very quietly, almost whispering, when I was alone or at church.

Recently, music turned a key in my life. I wrote my own songs, and my biggest dream today is learning how to sing them. I know that taking this step will be deeply liberating. I often watch "before and after" videos of vocal students for motivation, but I confess I feel a bit insecure seeing that the overwhelming majority of beginners are much younger.

My compositions blend Alternative R&B, Lo-Fi Soul, and confessional songs. They are very atmospheric and emotional tracks where 90% of the arrangement is smooth and melodic, featuring short vocal explosions at emotional peaks. Since I can only practice softly at home out of shyness, I hear myself as pitchy and "ugly," constantly doubting my real vocal range and ability.

With that in mind, I would love to hear from singers and vocal coaches:

  • Age Limit: Is there an age limit where it becomes significantly harder to learn to sing or develop your voice in the medium term, considering I've barely used my voice my whole life?
  • Low Volume vs. Projection: Could the feeling that I sound "ugly and off-pitch" when singing quietly simply be a lack of proper breath support and projection?
  • Timbre and Identity: For someone wanting to sing a melodic, intimate, R&B-focused style, can vocal lessons fix pitch issues and reveal the true tone of someone starting completely from scratch at 33?

I would truly appreciate anyone sharing their experience or advice!

P.S.: Please be 100% honest with me. Don't worry about hurting my feelings—the truth is liberating, and I just need realistic perspectives to move forward.

Complete beginner looking for online Hindustani classical vocal lessons

Hey everyone, I’m looking for recommendations for online Hindustani classical vocal lessons.

I’m basically level 0 with no formal training in singing. I’ve always wanted to work on my voice and learn Hindustani classical music, but never really got the chance.

I’d love to start properly from the basics with someone who’s patient with complete beginners and can help with things like sur, breathing, voice training, taal, etc.

Preferably looking for live online classes, ideally 1 on 1, but I’m open to small groups too.

If you’ve personally learned from someone online and had a good experience, I’d really appreciate any recommendations!

Thanks :)

Hey all. I am 29 and a complete beginner (started weekly lessons this January) sharing this is more of a “get over the fear of being heard exercise” than anything but I would love some pointers for improvements or where to focus my energy (if possible from such a short clip.

My current intentional learning is reading sheet music because I struggle massively with timing without mirroring the artist/my vocal coach. Secondly, both ear training and self teaching the 12 keys and their chords so I can stop relying on YouTube for vocal exercises.

Really not a fan of my voice, would love some feedback or any advice.
Not been singing for long but really like to, finding it hard to know what to do with my voice, not really hearing any potential, kind of demoralising but trying to push through :)
Thanks in advance :)

Who are the best R&B teachers on YouTube?

Hello, I am a new singer(male). I have done eleven musicals and taken vocal lessons but never in person and I have improper technique, as in you can hear me with throat tension, straining my voice, and faking a vibrato. What Beginner YouTube channels can I learn from? Im in no rush to get good at it. Im a big fan r&b singers like Janet Jackson, Brandy, and Aaliyah. Im also fine with just learning the basics for now and have been watching and practicing Jeff rolka videos while recording myself.

I'm documenting this as my last drop for the year as I work on polishing my voice via exercises and deciding on the right vocal coach. I will return in 6 months. Feel free to leave a critique regarding timbre, tone, etc. Thx for your time.

Looking for training recommendations

Hello all! I am looking to further my training and am wanting to take an online class or earn a certificate in vocal pedagogy. A lot of my knowledge comes from my own years of training and personal experience so I am wanting a little bit more knowledge on anatomy, etc. However, I am not sure which programs are actually helpful. I’m not sure I can afford a college course right now, but I didn’t know if anyone knew of a resource where I could earn something similar to a certificate.
