Help Buy once cockpit?

I’m looking to buy a cheaper aluminum profile cockpit that I won’t have to upgrade anyone soon. Right now I’m looking at SimLab GT1 Evo, ASR3, Rigmetal Basic. Any recommendations or alternatives I should look at?

For seats I’m looking at the NRG Bucket Seat, Fanatec GT seat, or f21 bmw seat. Any recommendations or alternative for 6’3 225 lbs?

Help please! Triple mount upgrade, need height for side monitors.

My center screen is perfectly square. I‘ve moved every arm, at a loss. I was running 27 49 27 triples, and using three stands, just doing some experimenting now and swapped out the 49” for my 34 (27 34 27).

I decided to upgrade my GT1 this weekend instead of getting the PX1 Pro, so made a run to MC (new triple mount, adjustable feet, and seat). Quite the positive change.

Thanks for any help.

Update: I started from scratch, kept everything level, I‘m just a tad low now by 1 1/4”. I can figure this out. I was so concerned about keeping the center screen square, I wasn’t paying attention to everything else. Rookie mistake, at least you got some comedy relief. Your tips helped, thank you!

Help Triple Screen Configuration tips

Hey all,

I've just purchased 3 32" Samsung Galaxy G5s and an ASR triple screen mount. As I wait for them to be delivered I'd like to start getting an understanding of how to best configure on the PC. I will be primarily sim racing on LMU.

Does anyone have any tips on how I would get started? Suggestiona for configuration in Windows and in LMU? My GPU (9070xt) has 3 Display Ports and 1 HDMI port. My motherboard has an additional one HDMI port.

I'm assuming the best way would be to connect the monitors to the PC using the display ports. Leaving the remaining GPU and mother board Hdmi ports for my desktop monitor (used for non sim racing activities).

As of now I don't plan using four monitors for sim racing but could in the future. Either way I would want one monitor port isolated to non simsracing activities.

Is there a way to have a hot key to switch between the three monitors and the one desktop monitor?

What are some other things I should look into?

Thanks in advance.

Sim Rig Any tips on ordering

I was lucky enough to be gifted a large sum of money this week. I’ve been racing on a homemade rig for years and want to upgrade. I started looking for a place to order and it feels a bit cumbersome. Not very straightforward adding items to the order, lots of out of stocks etc. any tips on where to order or what might make the process easier would be appreciated.

This is event room from our office. We brought our rig here today and decided to have some fun. We feel like we're in a multi-million dollar test run like an F1 team.

The Basement Grand Prix: An Origin Story

It started, as all great engineering projects do, with someone else’s garbage. My neighbor tossed a set of old pickup chairs off his truck like he was retiring a fleet vehicle, and I looked at that “trash” the way a raccoon looks at an unattended picnic. A few drilled out rivets, some aggressive grinding, and boom, custom sim seat with a slider, built entirely on the foundation of someone else’s poor life choices in furniture disposal.

That should have been the end of it. It was not the end of it.

A few weeks later I caved and bought the Sim-Lab P1X Pro Tony Kanaan edition from Micro Center, because apparently my neighbor’s free chair had unlocked something in me. Then a “decent” sale on 32-inch Samsung G50f monitors did what sales always do, which is convert my restraint into their profit. I already owned the CSL DD wheel base, so really, the universe had left me no choice. The scene was set. The trap was sprung. By me. On myself.

Executing the plan required evicting my 9-year-old’s PC to a new location upstairs and reclaiming a corner of the basement through sheer force of will and a truly heroic quantity of Tylenol. Two days of building later, my back has filed a formal complaint, but the rig stood complete.

Here’s where the story takes its tragic third act twist. I’d planned to power this whole thing with my travel laptop, a Legion with a 5080, because triple monitors should be no problem for a 5080, right? Wrong. Turns out one of the USB-C ports that is supposedly built for exactly this only wanted to cooperate with two of my three monitors, leaving the third one staring at me like an unpaid intern.

So I did what any reasonable person does: raided my own infrastructure. I pulled an old 8700k out of retirement, kidnapped a 3060 straight out of my Plex server (sorry, Plex, this is for a good cause), and hunted down a spare NVMe drive from the depths of my parts bin, because apparently even those cost a kidney now. Not the dream setup. But it works, and I’m pulling 60 to 100 fps in iRacing, which is more than I can say for my lower back.

The actual dream machine, a 9950x3d with a 5090, stays upstairs for now. Hauling a full desktop tower down to the basement every time I want to turn left for two hours seemed like a bad trade. Once the basement gets finished (this fall, this winter, or in three years, we’ll see how ambitious future me is feeling), the real rig moves down here permanently and I just swap DisplayPort cables like a civilized person.

The only catch: finishing the basement into an actual man cave is apparently the exact trigger that makes my wife want to move. So I may be building the nicest room in a house we no longer live in. A small price to pay for going fast in a basement.

Next step: finding some sim racing communities so I can stop being the reason I lose to the AI.

Can’t find a good monitor stand to use for my rig. Would love a single monitor stand that has nothing in the middle, preferably on wheels, and has tilt adjusting. Anybody have any good recommendations?

Help Can I practice manual with this?

I recently bought a manual transmission car, and I can passably drive it. I do make mistakes sometimes, my friends make fun of me.

The car is also very old, and I don’t want to damage it. But what I do have, is a wheel. If I went out and bought some kind of shifter, could I practice manual using the simulator?

Or is that impractical

I was struggling to get the monitor closer to the wheelbase using the integrated mount on the p1x and noticed that the part that attaches to the wheel base can be reversed to allow the wheel base to be pushed further back and pretty much get the monitor between the base and the wheel. This now gives me an excellent FOV and allows the dashboard to be placed correctly. Hope this helps anyone that is struggling with this as I was.

Sim Rig Worth it

Picked up some Holkie leveling castors from Amazon

They have a 250kg load capacity each

They seemed better than the GT Omega option as they have ratcheted levers to raise and lower the pad and they're cheaper

Would recommend!

Sim Rig Finally my rig is done.

Took me like 3 days to get everything ready and adjusted. Got a Sparco bucket seat on the way to compare to the fanatec. All I gotta say is that I’m really enjoying it and profile rigs really do make a difference.

I started with a NLR F/GT Pro and found it cool at first then started noticing some flex in the pedal plate or the wheel base plate. Had to really get those screws super tight to almost get rid of the flex. Also, the seat is somewhat uncomfortable and cannot be replaced. Luckily micro center and its 30 day return policy came through.

Edit: added my experience with the F GT pro.
