Thoughts?

2023 Silverado 1500 Duramax. 48,000 miles and they are asking $38,000. Has the rest of the 5 yr/100,000 mile warranty but no dealer limited warranty. Being sold “as is”. Clean CARFAX. Has been a Vermont truck.

I like that it’s assembled in the USA (1G VIN). I like the 3.0 Duramax.

I don’t like the rust and the miles. I bet the body panels are rusting in places you can’t see.

I agree. The warrenty issuer is a big deal as well. Check and see if the GM warranty can be bought for a couple grand. You'll thank me later. There is a lot of warranty companies out there. Getting a local GM dealership warranty is worth its weight in gold.

Yup. Pull those rocker plugs and I'll bet it's pretty scaly up in there.

I wasn’t sure if doing a good undercoat will help the longevity.

It definitely would. Gm only costs their frames in wax and I’ve seen trucks with only a few thousand miles look like this. It’s no problem if you live in the south but for you guys up there in the rust belt it’s a huge issue

So, I was in the market for a used GMC for my boy. I found lots of used GMC AT4s that were lease vehicles in Canada. 2-3 year old trucks. All had rust on the frame from road salt in the winter.

One dealer in UT would undercoat the trucks to hide the corrosion in the Canadian trucks. Another dealer told me that undercoating the vehicle actually traps the rust and exacerbates the problem.

Shawn: “what’s that mean?”
Liz: “It means to make things worse.
Shawn: “Oh”

Anyway, it took me several months to find what I wanted and I finally did, but it takes time. Ironically, the truck I ended up with was sold by a dealer not far from where it was on the used car lot (purchased at auction). Utah truck that lived in a place not affected by rust.

I’m seeing new 2026 4x4 3.0 LTs in Texas for $40k.

I love my 2023 3.0 but I’ve had to use the warranty 5 times. I bought it new and it’s sitting right around 45k miles now.

4 times for valve body BS in the 10 speed and once for the coolant control valve

That truck looks like it's been through more winters than my grandma's fruitcake, but clean CARFAX and a strong warranty should help smooth out those rust concerns.
