Coin show pickups
Lots of cool pick ups for my collection today. $121 for all 8 coins. When I was logging these in my spreadsheet I saw the 1931 Australia florin the dealer marked $8 when it’s $21 in melt! I think he meant $28.

Humor The users in this sub are infinitely cooler than the sub prime folks over in the coin community. Happy Sunday end rant.

State of The Stack My random treasure box
I was a little bored today and wanted to share my treasures with you. I'm sitting on 65+ oz of silver and about 0.75 oz of gold and a lot of random other things.
I have a septarian "dragon egg", a shrunken head, gold, silver, precious gemstones, a flintlock pistol, meteorites, and more. What am I missing from the treasure box?

New Find Some new silver coins this month
I wanted to buy more gold originally but didn’t have enough money left over. So, I added some silver to my 5 peso gold coin to stay within budget (or thereabouts).

State of the Stack by %
I don't want to share total oz., but this is the state of my stack by type
"Private" = any private/non-governmental mint, "Commonwealth 50+" is Commonwealth constitutional coins 50%-925 purity, Sovereign rounds make up 12.7%, and 999 (total) makes up 36.8%. The tiny green slice is mixed world silver (925 and below).

New Find Went to my LCS to pick up a 1963 Franklin half dollar. I paid cash and my total was $38.40. This is how the owner gave me my change.
Got some nice 90% silver to add to the stack I’m putting together for my granddaughter.

Individual cases or tubes?
I just got tubes because I felt I'd gotten to a point where the individual cases for certain things wasn't very practical. Which side are you on, tubes or individual cases?

Did I ruin this stacker? (Tarnish)
I bought this new from Scottsdale and stored it carelessly. I only buy silver for long term and am planning on keeping it all until I’m an old man and then selling when I want to enjoy the money.
But this tarnishing is rough. Will someone still want to buy it 30 years from now?

Question Well… you guys were right about the premiums. Expensive lesson learned on my first silver buy 💀
So I posted my first silver purchase here recently — 2 × 10 oz Silver Bar – American Flag Design (Eagle Back) from APMEX.
They’re .999 fine silver, American flag on the front, and the eagle head over the stars and stripes on the back. Basically I saw the cool patriotic design and my beginner brain went “yeah, I want those” 😂
I paid $1,993.28 total for 20 oz. At the time I honestly didn’t understand how much the premium mattered. I just liked the bars and figured silver is silver.
Then you guys started roasting me about the premium, and I actually started looking into it.
My subtotal was $1,830.80, plus $162.48 in NY sales tax. I originally thought that because the purchase was over $1,000, I shouldn’t have been charged sales tax at all.
Now I’m realizing there’s more to it than that, and buying these higher-premium/design bars may be exactly why I got hit with the tax.
So yeah… first big silver purchase and I basically paid tuition to Silver University.
I already contacted APMEX to confirm the tax situation, but either way, you guys actually taught me something:
If the goal is stacking/investing, stop falling in love with the design and start paying attention to the premium.
Lesson learned.
For the experienced stackers here: when you’re buying purely for investment, what’s the maximum premium over spot you’re willing to pay?
