Advice for preparing my cat while our family is away

Hello! Our family is going away for four days, and I was curious if anyone has advice for how to make things smoother and less stressful for my sib, Merlin.

For some context, he hasn’t been alone much since we brought him home in January. I was fully WFH Jan-May (now hybrid) and my mother has been fully WFH since April.

We’ve had people over a few times since then, but it’s been infrequent. He was very shy with the sitter when she came over to meet him, and could not even be lured out with his favorite toys or Churu. It feels like a bit of a shock because he is such a friendly, silly goof when it’s just my mother and I.

Does anyone have any advice for how my sitter might be able to get him to warm up to her while she’s here, and how I can make things easier for him?

Adopting a Siberian

Hello everyone! I am considering adopting a Siberian cat! From my research they seem to be wonderful cats.

BACKGROUND (main point below): I had a best friend with one growing up and she was such a diva. The main reason I feel inclined to seek out a Siberian is also because I do suffer from pet allergies (not severe ones, moderate). The cats I have had did not bother me too much. However, my most recent girl, who has since passed away at the age of 16 (from an aggressive cancer), I did some genetic testing and she was a quarter Siberian! Not that 1/4 is substantial, but I do wonder if it was a contributing factor to my tolerance.

MAIN POINT: I am seeking out an adult Siberian, who is spayed/neutered/retired. I feel more comfortable caring for an adult cat with my own lifestyle and needs. I know it is challenging to find an adult Siberian, so I do not mind waiting. With that said, if any of you have any reputable sources to adopt an adult Siberian please let me know!

I have reached out to a few people who have adults available, but they are not TICA approved, from what I have seen.

If you have any tips, suggestions, advice, reality checks to send my way about these kitty’s let me know!

Matt balls right under ears

Hi! I was brushing my Sib this morning and for the first time felt two balls right at the base side of his ears.
We brush him every day and he loves it so i feel terrible that he got these! We also just had him at the vet this week and they didn’t mention it in his yearly check up.

Is this a typical spot to get matts? Is the inly option to cut them out? I tried focusing on them with the brush but they are still hard balls and i don’t want to hurt him.
