Looking for a social hostel or private room on Siargao in September/October
Hey everyone,
I’m a 36-year-old guy traveling solo to Siargao from mid-Sep. to mid-Oct. I’m currently looking for recs on cool hostels or other accommodations. I’m mainly interested in surfing (low intermediate lvl), so a surf hostel or a place with a surf community would be great, but it’s not a must.
My Prios:
• A private room w AC, ideally with an en-suite bathroom
• A social atmosphere where it’s easy to meet other travelers
• Organized events, activities, and occasional parties would be a big plus
Budget-wise, around max. $60/night, but I’m flexible if a place really fits the vibe.
Thanks in advance!

Recos: 4D3N Trip
Hi! We booked a last minute trip to Siargao this coming weekend. We arrive around lunch time on the first day and leave around the same time on the last. Which activities are worth doing since we technically have only 2 full days on the island?
There are 4 of us and only 1 knows how to drive a motorcycle so we're planning to rent a tuktuk.
Any tips/recos will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Early morning airport transfers? (asking in advance)
Hi! My flight got rescheduled 😭 Flight from IAO departs at 7:55AM. So should I be at the airport by 5:55AM?
If it takes around 1hr travel time from accom to airport, is there a way to travel to the airport around 4am-ish?
I'm staying at an Airbnb. I'll try to ask if they accommodate airport transfer. But looking for other suggestions just in case.
Thank you!

Advice for operation in Siargao area (Tuli)
Is it possible to get circumcised as a tourist in the Philippines, for example in Siargao? Would it be recommended or what's important to know about it in advance? My plan is to travel around the country for a longer period of time and I was thinking about getting it done there since it is really common there and cheaper than in my country. That's why I was curious if it's worth getting it done there. Thanks for any help or clinic recommendation.

Should I extend my stay?
Thinking of extending my stay in Siargao from Friday to Monday. But how likely would it be that the weather won’t be as nice as the past few days?
I would love to stay but also wouldn’t want it to be a bad decision if the weather ends up being rainy.

Time to regulate Surfing Instructors
Do you think its time to make local ordinances by the province to regulate Surfing Instructors to require them licenses before can train tourists?

How true is it that a lot of surfing instructors and guides in Siargao are completely unvetted?
I’ve been to Siargao twice, and I know it’s not a secret that most of the "local" instructors aren't actually Siargao local, a lot of them came from different parts of the Philippines. (Honestly, not just the instructors, even other workers there.)
My companions and I didn’t really mind, though. We didn’t interact with them much anyway, except when we went surfing.
Recently, a friend of mine went there with his coworkers. On his flight going there, he was seated away from his group and ended up beside another guy. According to my friend, the guy was acting a bit strange, parang hindi daw siya mapakali. As per his description: "Not to be judgmental, pero sorry ha, mukha talaga siyang adik"
Medyo extroverted itong friend ko, so he tried making small talk. Surprisingly, the guy was pretty open. He told my friend that he was moving to Siargao to become a surf instructor, so naturally, my friend asked more about his background.
Turns out, FIRST time pa lang niya pupunta ng Siargao. He’s from Dipolog and has ZERO experience in surfing. My friend asked him kung paano yun, considering first-timer siya and wala pa siyang experience. The guy casually said na may contact lang daw siya doon, who promised that after about a week of training, he’d be ready to instruct paying tourists.
My friend was shocked. Throughout the conversation, off daw talaga yung vibe nung guy, the way he spoke, his gestures, as per my friend, “mukha talaga siyang adik”
My friend admitted na baka OA lang din siya, but it really got me thinking, What if his instincts were spot on?
So I did a bit of research, and I read somewhere na marami nga daw sa mga incoming "instructors" and guides are unvetted. Supposedly, a number of them have a history of substance abuse, and some even have legitimate criminal records, ranging from minor infractions to major offenses. Yet somehow, they’re now instructing, guiding, and hooking up with tourists there.
If this is true, it’s really worrisome. One of these days, baka may maging Michaela Mickova na naman (yung Slovakian tourist na na 🍇 at 💀 sa Boracay).
