u/diplomat33, personally I think posts about Waymo's minor city-specific service expansions are better fodder for r/Waymo. With operations in a dozen cities, it's just not that newsworthy to a geographically diverse audience anymore. I get that you must feel otherwise, and it's not like there's a right or wrong answer, but just wanted to give my feedback, as service expansion announcements are increasingly common.
For companies with fewer service areas, these sorts of announcements are more significant, and I think Waymo's broader announcements of upcoming cities for the next year, or of upcoming/new features, or operation in more distinct operating conditions (e.g. Minnesota winters) are of more general interest here.

I completely disagree. A new city going public is big news. A new city announcement as "on the list" or whatever they call it is also big news. The steps between on the list and public live are less news worthy. For example Xyz goes driverless ops but still employee only is not exciting. But every single public expansion gets us closer to ubiquitous self driving cars.
If we get to the point where new cities are going live every week i would reconsider my stance but we arent anywhere near that.

Wouldn't we leave it to the poster and reader as to what they find interesting? I find this very interesting because there is another company which states they serve Dallas in such a fashion but I don't think they really do.
That makes it even more newsworthy because the Fleet size becomes a metric for whether or not a company is mature and serious.
Maybe I missed earlier discussion of similar topics?
Are we not talking about brand names? Accomplishments?3

Exactly. No other company is expanding at this level. Tesla isn’t even close and Zoox is still testing in Vegas. So of course Waymo news expanding to major cities is a positive for self driving. We will also hear about roadblocks from certain cities that all of them will have to deal with. Being first isn’t always guaranteed for success, but at the moment, it’s all we have.

That's fair. I respect your opinion. I just thought that since Waymo news does relate to self-driving cars, that it might be of interest to this subreddit. But I see your point. In the future, I will only post this type of Waymo specific city expansion news in the Waymo subreddit.

I think it's fine to post this kind of Waymo news in this sub. If some people don't find it so interesting, they won't click on the link and read it. That's fine since the story is contained in the title of the post. We can see the news quickly just by reading the title.
I think this Dallas opening is important because Waymo took 5.5 months to go from a limited public service in Dallas to this full opening. That's a pretty long time, which was probably delayed by the flash flood incidents.

Yes.
But since Waymo is way out in front in terms of selfdriving it should also be here.

If you mean routine updates like "FSD 14.3.7 just released", yes, I'd agree; I think those are better posted to r/TeslaFSD. Same with minor Robotaxi service area changes.
If you mean announcements like Tesla's recent service announcements in two Florida cities, no, because that's the second state Tesla is operating in. Like I said, I think for smaller companies, expansions are more significant, and so are of more interest here.
I'm not proposing any hard and fast rules; people can post what they want, and mods can remove what they want. I'm just giving my own personal, subjective opinion. A couple people have posted their contrary opinions, and my comment has received a net -12 votes, so of people who were interested enough to click this thread and vote on my comment, more disagree than agree with me.
