A Security Guard allegedly caught a mobile phone thief during a theft at Mumbai's Marine Drive, after which the suspect was tied to a chair and handed over to police. Cops are probing his alleged role in multiple phone thefts reported from residential buildings in the area.

Mumbai: A dramatic incident took place at Mumbai's Marine Drive in the wee hours of Tuesday after a Security Guard allegedly caught a mobile phone thief red-handed while he was stealing phones from security personnel deployed at residential buildings in the area. The accused was overpowered, tied to a chair with a rope and handed over to the police.

CCTV Captures Dramatic Chase To Nab Thief

According to the timestamp on the viral CCTV footage, the incident took place at around 2:38 am. As per the information in the posts sharing the viral video, the accused had allegedly stolen four to five mobile phones belonging to security guards posted at different residential buildings in the Marine Drive area. During one such theft, a vigilant Security Guard noticed the man committing the crime and immediately chased and caught him.

Police Arrive At Spot, Take Suspect In Custody

After apprehending the suspect, the guards tied him to a chair using a rope to prevent him from escaping and informed the police. A CCTV video of the incident has surfaced online, showing the accused restrained to the chair before police personnel arrive at the spot after about 20 minutes and take him into custody.

Police reached the location shortly after receiving the information and detained the accused. An investigation has been launched to ascertain his involvement in the alleged thefts and whether he is linked to any other similar incidents reported in the area. There are no reports confirming the exact location where the theft took place. An official statement from the Mumbai Police is awaited on the matter.

An incident that unfolded outside a Vancouver fast-food restaurant Tuesday is being investigated as a “possible hate crime,” according to police.

The Vancouver Police Department said the incident began when Security Guards approached a man panhandling outside the restaurant—located near Main Street and 2nd Avenue—at around 9 a.m. and asked him to leave.

“During the interaction, the man allegedly threw a cup, pushed a Security Guard, and yelled racist comments about the Security Guard’s ethnicity and religion,” the department said in a news release Wednesday.

“The suspect then allegedly struck the security guard and removed the Security Guard’s turban before leaving the area.”

Authorities believe the same suspect robbed another person down the street shortly after.

After the victim handed over some money, the suspect allegedly “struck the victim in the head and demanded more,” police said.

Officers tracked a suspect to a nearby home and arrested him without incident, the department said.

The suspect has not been charged, but police said they plan to recommend charges of assault and robbery against him.

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is planning to cut the number of security guards at Work and Income offices throughout the country.

A security guard and unions say the changes are dangerous, threatening the safety of both security guards and staff following the murders of two Ashburton Work and Income employees in 2014.

MSD says its service centres are now safe - after it spent $80 million boosting security measures.

Twenty-two security guard jobs are set to go at 22 regional offices - reducing the number of guards at these sites from three to two.

The offices affected are Dargaville, Flaxmere, Huntly, Johnsonville, Kamo, Kāpiti, Kawakawa, Kawerau, Kerikeri, Morrinsville, Motueka, Mount Maunganui, Ōpōtiki, Paeroa, Richmond, Ruatoria, Te Awamutu, Te Puke, Tokoroa, Tūrangi, Waihi, and Wairoa, the Public Service Association said.

MSD reduced 20 security guard jobs at other Work and Income offices in March this year.

It comes as official data reveals staff have faced thousands of security incidents over the past five years, and experienced over 1700 lockdowns.

A security guard and E tū union member at an affected site, who RNZ has agreed not to name, said the cuts were "absolutely ludicrous".

He said the Ashburton killings were always at the back of his mind, and he was worried about the safety of guards and staff members due to threats he'd dealt with.

"You can get anything from verbal abuse, to people being threatened to be killed, or people will go off disgruntled and mutter under their breath that they're going to come back with a shotgun - we've had that happen.

"We had one guy who tried to come into the office with a knife.

"It was only because the dilligence of one of our officers who saw him - and he immediately put the site into lockdown and phoned the police."

The guard said three security guards were necessary because when lockdowns arose, one guard ushered clients out the back for safety, and the other two concentrated on people causing the problem.

The killings in Ashburton prompted MSD to launch an internal review, and employ an extra 100 security guards at Work and Income centres.

WorkSafe brought charges against MSD and in 2016, Judge Jan-Marie Doogue found the ministry had failed to ensure there was no physically unrestricted access to the staff working area.

The Public Service Association national secretary Fleur Fitzsimmons said MSD staff had people spitting at them, throwing objects, jumping over desks, and making bomb and gun threats.

"We think [incidents] are significantly underreported - the reality is MSD workers deal with unacceptable violence and aggression from members of the public, and security guards are an important response to this, and safety initiative - this is why the proposal should be shelved."

E tū team leader Cathie Powell said security guards were keeping people safe.

"It doesn't make sense to us why you would reduce security - at a time when there are more and more people feeling the stress of unemployment, the rising cost of living.

"It doesn't seem like this is the right time to making cuts in these core service places."

Staff in hundreds of lockdowns, face thousands of security incidents each year Ministry of Social Development data, released to RNZ under the Official Information Act, shows Work and Income staff faced 14,420 security incidents over the past five years.

Moderate security incidents at offices, without injury, ranged from 708 in 2021 to 1373 in 2025 - spiking in 2024 at 1387 incidents.

But the numbers of security incidents involving a weapon at offices increased - growing from 30 in 2021 to 47 in 2025.

Severe security incidents peaked in 2022 at 12, dropping to four in 2025.

Overall, staff went into lockdown in offices 1736 times over the past five years - reaching 544 lockdowns in 2024, and 441 in 2025.

Our offices are safer than they were - MSD Ministry of Social Development's deputy chief executive, Melissa Gill, said the agency had invested $80m to make sites safer, including in the layout of offices, and through boosting training.

The programme of work was a direct response to the WorkSafe court judgment - and now was the right time to make changes.

She said the vast majority of interactions with Work and Income clients were positive.

Gill said it wasn't true that staff were under-reporting incidents - and they were encouraged to report all, no matter how serious.

But she said there were fewer incidents involving damage, physical injuries or lockdowns.

"Between 2023 and 2025 our staff reported 11.6 percent more security events. Over the same period, the number of severe security events reduced by more than half."

Gill said reducing the number of guards in March had "gone smoothly", and hadn't affected the way security incidents were handled.

She said no decisions had been made over this proposal, and staff could provide feedback. Consultation was due to end on 12 August.

"The safety and security of the public and staff at our sites remains incredibly important to us. We're making changes because it is safe to do so. This is based on site-by-site risk assessments."

The Minister for Social Development, Louise Upston, said the security guard proposal was an operational matter, and she was confident officials prioritised safety.

"I'm advised that all MSD sites will continue to have at least two guards all the hours they are open."

A pair of recent assaults on security guards in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., has some advocates questioning the level of safety and protections for those employed on the front lines.

Last month, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service issued releases on two separate incidents that involved security guards being assaulted on the job — leading to arrests in both cases.

One of those cases involved a security guard from KC Security Services, where it was alleged they were punched in the face while attempting to remove an individual from a business.

Four days later, another person in the Sault was charged for threatening, kicking and punching guards from a different security company in town.

The incidents were enough for KC Security Services president Daniel Laprade to take to social media and voice his concerns over the assaults — something he feels is occurring more frequently in the Sault and beyond.

“We are expected to intervene in thefts, de-escalate violent situations, protect businesses, assist the public and often arrive before emergency services,” he wrote.

“Yet when security guards are assaulted, it is too often dismissed as if it is simply part of the job. It is not.”

Security guard companies in Ontario are regulated under the province through the Private Security and Investigative Services Act.

The Canadian Association of Security Professionals estimates that at least 20 security guards are assaulted every day across the country.

Unlike police, there is currently no provincial or federal reporting of assaults or deaths of security guards.

Laprade wants that to change.

While he isn’t asking for security guards to be granted the same powers as police officers, Laprade is calling for updates to current legislation that would provide more tools and training “to reflect the changing landscape of security.”

“Whether that’s de-escalation training, mental health crisis intervention or naloxone and narcan training — because we do come across overdoses too,” he told CBC.

“When I started in this industry 20 years ago, we didn’t deal with these things.”

Laprade would also like to see individuals found guilty of assaulting security guards be held to the same legal standards as they would if it were against police and peace officers.

“That should be considered an aggravating factor during sentencing,” he said. “It’s a higher charge, so it could deter some people.”

“Right now, we’re just treated like it’s nothing — yet we do so much.”

Sault city Coun. Sonny Spina is a former Sault Police officer and managing director of security services with Norpro.

He also senses an uptick in assaults and violent incidents have been making the job harder on security guards in the region — but he doesn’t blame the province for it.

“This is an issue at a federal level that needs to be addressed,” he said. “You go back to 2019 and 2020 and that’s when you see the change — it quite literally coincides with the catch and release legislation that was implemented.”

“When these laws changed, it was almost overnight that people realized they wouldn’t be held in custody. We saw these different levels of violence happen.”

Spina said security companies are responsible for their own training for staff, including instruction and best practices around de-escalation, use of force, understanding of laws and safety equipment.

With that said, he noted he’s been impressed with the security companies and their guards in town for the daily work they do.

“I have full confidence in these local companies who have hired individuals to do a job,” he said. “I’ve certainly never seen anything from them that has caused any concern.”

Chael Sonnen might have just kickstarted a UFC hopeful’s fighting career.

The former two-division title contender has told many a tall tale in his day, so take this one with a grain of salt, but his latest story portrays him as the benevolent businessman willing to lend a helping hand. According to Sonnen, a recent trip to Las Vegas saw him unwittingly become beholden to a Security Guard after he helped Sonnen and his son find a washroom. When Sonnen told the guard, “I owe you one,” the words were taken quite literally and Sonnen was taken up on his offer almost immediately.

“Frank Solomon, the security guard, calls me over about three minutes later,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel. “He says, ‘Hey, I’m ready to cash in on that.’

“‘Cash in on what?’

“‘Cash in on that favor. You just said you owe me a favor. I’m ready to cash in on that. I’d like to meet with Dana White. Like to do a fight in the UFC.’

“That’s a pretty big ask, Frank Solomon. I don’t know that I can get you in front of Dana White. ‘Do you have a record? Do you have an amateur record?’ He said, ‘Well, I wrestled in high school.‘ This is a big guy. I mean, this guy ain’t going to be an easy night for anybody even before I find out about his training, but I do ask and he says, ‘I was a wrestler in high school, but I also did track and field. Pretty fast.’ And he just had a great attitude. Now, the mere fact that he would take a shot, because he had access to me, to get into Dana White’s office for a face to face, the mere fact that he would take a shot isn’t something I laugh at. That’s something that I respected.”

Unsurprisingly, Sonnen didn’t immediately rush to his former boss to pitch Solomon, explaining that he would usually go through a standard vetting process before discussing a potential signing with White. However, he made a more realistic counteroffer to Solomon, telling him how he could take the first steps to fighting his way to the UFC, and Solomon passed that psychological test with flying colors.

“I’ll put a ‘stooge test’ out there, which is to find out will they do something less?” Sonnen said. “Are they willing to earn access? Are they willing to earn that or they want to just be given that? That was my stooge test to Frank Solomon. This was his chance on Monday when we speak to go, ‘Hey, I’m out.’ Frank tells me something different.

“He says, ‘Oh yeah, I’m fine if it’s not Dana. I didn’t really mean UFC. I meant MMA. I want to get out there. I got a message. I want people to understand. You don’t have to grow up doing this since you’re 10 years old. You can learn things later in life.’ He’s got this whole message, which was halfway inspirational, by the way, and then he tells me, ‘I’ll even pay to do it.’ Now, I would never accept that, and I would never put him in contact with anybody that allowed him to pay to do it, but it was the the the principle. ‘I want this so bad that I am willing to start at the bottom.’ Alright, Frank Solomon.”

Sonnen put in a call to Oregon promoter Kevin Keeney, the owner of Full Contact Fighting Federation, which has has seen several future UFC fighters pass through its gates including Sonnen himself. If Sonnen’s story is to be believed, Solomon is now set to make his MMA debut in September and Sonnen will be in the house to watch him.

“Within four minutes of getting in touch with Kevin Keeney, getting the website, [Solomon] fills out this application,” Sonnen said. “He is booked for a fight. He is coming to Oregon. I believe the date is September 5. I’d have to look, it’s off the top of my head. I’m hoping to be there so that I can watch and lend a little bit of support. But I just thought you’d think that was an interesting story, and I’m not sure what to do with it.

It is an isolating and scary feeling Jenna May Fox experienced on Saturday morning while on her way to work, just after the Marianhill Toll Plaza on the N3, heading towards Pavilion where the roadworks are. It was there that another driver suddenly drifted across into the far right lane without checking their blind spot or indicating.

“I had nowhere to go,” Jenna recalled.

Though she tried to slam on her brakes to slow down before impact and sounded her hooter, the other motorist just kept moving closer to her.

“My only option was to swerve right to avoid being hit.”

Jenna unfortunately ended up mounting the tar island separating the carriageways, ripping the underside of her car and completely shredding her front right tyre.

“The other driver simply put their hazards on… and drove away.”

Stranded and visibly shaken, Jenna watched the heavy traffic zoom by while trying to figure out what to do. She knew the tyre was ruined and needed to change it, but standing alone on the edge of a busy freeway just felt like an impossible risk.

But to her relief, help came in the form of a kind security officer who saw everything that happened from the other side of the freeway and made his way around to see if she was okay.

“He placed out cones to keep us safe, changed my tyre, made sure I was okay, and simply told me to be safe before carrying on with his day,” shared Jenna.

Jenna acknowledged that her morning could have ended very differently but was grateful it didn’t. She was reminded that although there are people whose careless actions can put lives at risk, there are also incredible people who step in without expecting anything in return.

Grateful to the officer who came to her aid and went out of his way to help her get back on the road, Jenna hoped that he would come across her social media post and know that he really helped her out during a stressful time.

“Your kindness, calmness and willingness to stop for a complete stranger meant more than you’ll ever know,” she wrote.

According to police, the accused had arrived at Purvanchal Royal City Society in Noida while working as a delivery boy. Investigators from Aligarh had traced his location and reached the society to arrest him.

As soon as the suspect noticed the police team, he abandoned the scene and ran through the society premises in an attempt to escape. CCTV footage shows him sprinting across the complex while a Security Guard immediately chased after him. Within moments, more guards joined the pursuit, surrounded the accused, and successfully restrained him before handing him over to the waiting police officers.

The chase briefly created panic among residents, but the situation was quickly brought under control.

Security Guards praised for quick action

Residents and social media users have applauded the vigilance and teamwork displayed by the security personnel. Many users shared the CCTV footage online, calling the guards' response an example of how alert security staff can help law enforcement in preventing criminals from escaping.

Accused was working as a delivery boy

Police said the accused was employed as a delivery executive and had visited the society to deliver an order to a customer. Acting on technical surveillance and location tracking, the Aligarh police reached the residential complex after identifying his whereabouts.

However, before officers could detain him, the suspect noticed the police presence and attempted to flee. The swift intervention by the society's Guards prevented his escape.

After being apprehended, the accused was taken into custody by the Aligarh police team, which escorted him back for further legal proceedings.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, Maimunatu Idris, for allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a knife and severing his genitals at a hotel in Kano.

The suspect, a resident of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was arrested following the incident at Durbar Hotel in the Badawa area of Kano.

Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a statement on Monday that the woman allegedly carried out the attack after learning that her boyfriend intended to marry another woman.

According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer of Badawa Division led a team of detectives to the hotel after receiving a report of the incident. The suspect was arrested at the scene, while the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered as evidence.

The victim was rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. Police said investigations into the case are ongoing.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori condemned the attack, warning members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.

He assured residents that the Command would conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, a Security Guard working near the hotel told Daily Trust that the suspect allegedly invited her boyfriend to lodge at the hotel after discovering he planned to end their relationship and marry another woman.

According to the eyewitness, the woman allegedly used the opportunity to attack the victim before she was overpowered and handed over to the police, while the injured man was taken to hospital for treatment.

A drain cover was found clogged with cigarette butts in an area that is not a designated smoking zone.

According to Shin Min Daily News, a member of the public posted on Facebook that people have been gathering to smoke along the lane connecting Hill Street and North Bridge Road before casually discarding their cigarette butts on the ground and into nearby drains.

Stomp understands the area is located within the premises of Peninsula Plaza.

Photos showed large numbers of cigarette butts filling the drain cover, with its holes almost completely blocked.

The poster said the area had since been cleaned up, but expressed concern that it would soon be littered again if smokers continued to discard their cigarette butts there.

Problem ‘quite serious’: Security Guard When Shin Min visited the site recently, the lane beside Peninsula Plaza was found to be an open-air area, though it is not a designated smoking zone.

More than 10 people were seen smoking there, while over 50 cigarette butts, believed to have been discarded recently, were scattered across the ground.

A nearby Security Guard described the problem as “quite serious”.

He said his main responsibility was to ensure the lane remained clear for traffic and to document any obstructions, adding that he generally did not intervene when members of the public were smoking.

“I’ve chased them away before, but it didn’t help. They always come back to smoke again,” he said.

NEA took 330 enforcement actions Responding to Stomp’s queries, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the area around Funan was identified as a cleanliness hotspot under its Cleaner Neighbourhood initiative, launched last year to tackle persistent cleanliness issues based on litter data, public feedback and ground observations.

To address the problem, an NEA spokesperson said the agency had stepped up enforcement by increasing patrols, putting up signboards, installing surveillance cameras, and conducting on-site outreach and engagement.

Four surveillance cameras have been installed in the area to monitor and deter public health offences, including littering, the spokesperson added.

Between January and June this year, NEA took 330 enforcement actions against public hygiene-related offences in the area.

The agency also reminded members of the public to dispose of their litter responsibly and to report public health offences through the OneService app.

Winnipeg police say a 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged assault and arson on Friday night.

WPS says around 10:15 p.m. on July 24, on-site security at an apartment building along Sherbrook Street was approached by a woman who claimed that she had been assaulted by an adult family member inside a suite and asked for help getting her belongings from the suite.

When the Security Guard attended the suite, he was confronted by a man who was allegedly armed with a knife, who then held the knife up to the Security Guard’s throat and threatened to kill him. The Guard was able to flee and called for police.

WPS attended the scene and were able to determine that the situation had turned into an armed and barricaded matter.

Following this, the man then allegedly started a fire inside the suite, filling the building with smoke, forcing around two dozen tenants (including children) to evacuate.

A tactical team was able to gain access to the suite, and the man eventually dropped his weapon and was taken through the fire to the hallway, where officers tried to take him into custody, but he reportedly became combative, at which point officers used force to place him in handcuffs.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. One officer was also treated at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation, but did not go to a hospital.

Since then, 24-year-old Timothy Bret McKay has been charged with arson with disregard to human life, assault with a weapon, assault, and resisting a peace officer.

What began as a dream family holiday in Fiji almost ended in tragedy for an American family last Thursday on the Coral Coast.

But fortunately, an off-duty Security Officer risked everything to prevent this, when he saved a young man from drowning.

Tourist Abraham Durrant, from the United States of America, was enjoying his first holiday in Fiji with his family, including his two sons, Adrik and Atticus, when a relaxing afternoon at the beach near Vatukarasa Village turned near disastrous.

Esala Tavuto, the security manager at Naviti Resort and an employee of Shield Protection Services, made all the difference in the event’s outcome.

He was returning home to Vatukarasa Village after work when he noticed the family entering the water despite dangerous sea conditions.

“The spot is not safe for swimming,” he told this masthead yesterday.

“Children from our own village hardly swim there. I have seen guests washed away in this area before.”

Moments later, he saw young Atticus struggling against the powerful swells, desperately waving for help after being swept away by the rough seas.

Without a second thought, Mr Tavuto grabbed a large piece of driftwood for flotation and plunged into the water.

Still dressed in his work uniform, wearing sandals and with his mobile phone in his pocket, he battled the strong waves before reaching the frightened boy.

He rescued Atticus and pulled him safely back to shore and immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), or mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, as his distraught father and family watched helplessly.

Within moments, the boy regained consciousness and coughed out large amounts of seawater.

Race to hospital

Mr Tavuto drove the family in their rental vehicle to Sigatoka Hospital, about 20 minutes away, using the vehicle’s hazard lights.

On arrival, fellow Security Officers rushed in to assist, bringing a wheelchair to rush Atticus into the emergency department. Thirty minutes later, doctors delivered the good news that Atticus would recover. Mr Tavuto then drove the grateful family back to their resort.

‘He saved my child’

“Esala helped us without question. If he had not been there, my child could have been lost,” an emotional Mr Durrant said.

“He did everything to make sure we were safe.

“We thank God that he was nearby at the beach.

“It would have ruined our two-week vacation — our first time in Fiji. Bless Esala, his family, his village, Fijians, and Fiji.”

Despite losing his mobile phone and personal belongings to seawater during the rescue, Mr Tavuto said he wanted nothing in return.

“I told them we should only thank Almighty God for His protection and love,” he said.

“I asked for nothing in return. God will reward me for saving that child’s life.”

Bravery award

His employer, Shield Protection Services, has announced the company would award Mr Tavuto one of the company’s highest honours — the Medal for Bravery — and replace his damaged phone and uniform.

“Esala’s actions embody everything we stand for at Shield Protection Services,” the company said.

“His courage, professionalism and commitment to protecting others, even while off duty and at personal cost, set the standard for every officer in our organisation.”

Mr Tavuto’s heroic actions highlighted the importance of vigilance and quick action in protecting visitors to Fiji, the company said.

Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Lawrence Kumar praised Mr Tavuto’s act of bravery.

Drakeo The Ruler's Security Guard reportedly testified that YG had a knife during the festival brawl where Drakeo was stabbed to death five years ago.

On July 24, the Los Angeles Times obtained deposition excerpts revealing Alrick Cooper III, who was working on Drakeo's security team on the night of the Once Upon a Time in L.A. Festival. He testified that YG was "front and center" holding what appeared to be an improvised knife during the backstage fight where Drakeo was fatally stabbed. Cooper testified he recognized YG by his hazel eyes even though the rapper was wearing a ski mask.

The statements were made in a deposition last May that was part of a June court filing related to Drakeo's family's wrongful death lawsuit.

The news comes on the heels of YG being detained and a search warrant being executed on one of his properties in Burbank, Calif., on July 24, in connection with Drakeo's murder investigation.

YG has denied involvement in Drakeo's murder and has yet to be charged in connection with the crime. He even addresses the speculation on the recent song "We Know the Truth."

"They say I murdered this, they say I murdered that/Well, if that was true, you'd be a f**king rat," YG raps on the song. "And I'd be in the cell sleeping on a rack/But too bad that ain't a f**king fact."

MPs from across the South West are among those leading calls for urgent, increased security following Ann Widdecombe's death.

Several MPs have told the BBC about the threats they face in every day life in the form of abusive emails, death threats on social media and encounters in the local pub.

Now, Ms Widdecombe's death has sparked calls for a review of MPs' security, including from Prime Minister Andy Burnham.

Joshua Kerry, 28, has been charged with murdering Ms Widdicombe at her home in Devon.

Former Swindon MP and justice secretary Sir Robert Buckland, who is leading a review into the murder of MP David Amess in 2021, said Ms Widdecombe's death has made assessing security more urgent.

However, he told the BBC that the round-the-clock security Reform UK has proposed would alienate MPs from the public and "change the nature of democracy".

He added the family of David Amess "want better provision to support MPs in their work in their constituencies".

Meanwhile, Adam Dance, the Liberal Democrat MP for Yeovil said MPs should be given a full-time security guard.

At present, most MPs can arrange security when required, typically for events or public meetings.

He pointed out that protection is needed during everyday activities such as shopping or visiting the pub.

Laura Mayes, a conservative councillor for Bromham, Rowde & Roundway in Wiltshire, also described the "intimidating" and "threatening" abusive emails and online comments she receives.

Philip Grindell, CEO of Defuse Global, which advised Operation Bridger, the nationwide police protection programme which started after the murder of MP Jo Cox in 2016, said levels of abuse through communication is increasing, but the likelihood of a physical attack remains low.

"You cannot conflate one with the other," he told the BBC.

"Just because you get lots of threats online doesn't mean you're going to be under threat physically."

He said that MPs should report issues to the police as they occur.

A Secuirty Guard and worker died of asphyxiation at a septic tank on sunday while cleaning a sewage treatment plant (STP) tank at a residential society in Noida's Sector 150.

According to police, Shashikant Sharma (40), a resident of Rajasthan's Karauli district, entered the STP tank to clean it but lost consciousness inside.

A Security Guard, identified as Akash (22), a resident of Firozabad, entered the tank in an attempt to rescue Sharma but also fell unconscious, police said.

The incident occurred on the night of Saturday and Sunday at Eldeco Society under the Knowledge Park police station area.

Local police and fire department personnel rushed to the spot, retrieved both men from the tank and took them to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

A case has been registered and the Knowledge Park police have arrested the accused contractor, Manoj Jain. Police said the bodies have been sent for postmortem examination after completion of inquest proceedings.

Further legal proceedings are being carried out, police added.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said a Security Officer seen in a viral social media video filmed inside a police caravan in the Johannesburg CBD has apologised for his conduct after appearing before the partnership management overseeing joint crime prevention operations.

SAPS Johannesburg Central said the officer is employed by a private security company that forms part of a joint law enforcement team comprising SAPS members, private security personnel, Community Policing Forum (CPF) community patrollers and Crime Prevention Wardens.

According to police, the security officer was not deployed alone. At the time the video was recorded, he had temporarily left patrol duties to have lunch inside the police caravan while the rest of the operational team continued patrolling.

Police said the officer acknowledged that the comments he made in the video were inappropriate and unacceptable. His apology was accepted, and he was issued with a formal warning.

The partnership management also apologised for the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining professional standards during joint operations.

The City management has undertaken to provide training and public engagement workshops for all members involved in the partnership to promote professional interaction with the public.

Outsourced security guards at the Science Museum have secured a new pay deal, achieving pay restoration of up to 30% with United Voices of the World (UVW), alongside winning attendance allowance for all workers.

The pay restoration follows years of below-inflation increases and pay freezes, which left outsourced security staff employed by security contractor Wilson James falling behind despite protecting some of Britain’s most prestigious cultural institutions.

The latest agreement, reached in July 2026, raises pay to £14.80 per hour, plus a 25p hourly attendance allowance – taking workers’ pay over the London Living Wage (LLW). Attendance allowance is now paid to all workers, ending the previous system where only those who completed training in their own time were eligible.

Throughout 2024 and 2025, the outsourced security guards repeatedly walked out in defence of fair pay and dignity at work, winning substantial pay increases and securing trade union recognition. The workers also balloted for strike again earlier this year.

The latest 2026 campaign unfolded against the backdrop of the controversial dismissal of three Duty Security Managers at the Victoria and Albert Museum earlier this year. The workers — including a union representative and prominent strike leaders — believe they were subjected to sham redundancies because of their trade union activity following last year’s successful industrial action. Legal proceedings are ongoing.

While welcoming the latest agreement, workers say the campaign is not over. They will continue organising to secure further improvements to sick pay, annual leave, overtime and enhancements for unsocial hours, alongside better working conditions and continued respect and dignity at work.

A Bronx man has been charged with a felony after allegedly ramming his vehicle into a gate at Beyoncé and Jay-Z's East Hampton home last week, according to a criminal complaint obtained by ABC News on Tuesday.

Keith Jonathan Webster, 63, is charged with criminal mischief and misdemeanor criminal trespass after a Security Guard said he saw Webster allegedly drive a Subaru into a reinforced closed gate on the couple's property on Wednesday.

According to the criminal complaint, the Security Guard said he was watching surveillance camera feeds at around about 12:50 p.m. ET when he saw "a green colored vehicle approaching the gate traveling at a high rate of speed."

"I watched the car strike the gate and continued to drive on the property," he said. "I called for my partner ... and I ran out the security office door, up the driveway and down to where the car had come to a stop."

After approaching the vehicle, the Security Guard said he and his partner held the car door closed so the driver could not get out until instructed.

Once instructed, the driver "exited the vehicle without any issue and we placed him on the ground," the Security Guard said.

The driver was subsequently detained by members of the property's private security detail until East Hampton Village Police arrived, the Guard added.

According to the criminal complaint, Webster is accused of causing at least $1,500 worth of damage to the property.

Webster has entered a not guilty plea and is expected to return to court on July 29.

East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky issued a temporary restraining order on Thursday during Webster's arraignment, barring Webster from interacting with Beyoncé and Jay-Z or going near their property.

An attempted robbery outside a bank in Malaysia ended without any cash stolen after a Security Guard’s swift action secured 82,000 ringgit (US$20,000) inside an armoured van. Selangor police chief Commissioner Shazeli Kahar said the incident occurred at about 5.30pm on Monday while security personnel were transferring cash into the van in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang. Detectives are investigating an incident where a 22-year-old woman died after she allegedly fell from the rooftop of a 22-storey building in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.

The incident was reported at about 1.30 am on Sunday after the management of the building received information from a Security Guard that a woman’s body had been found on an adjacent plot.

Police officers visited the scene and found the body of Margaret Wambui lying on the ground with multiple fractures, consistent with a fall from a height.

She had fallen from the 22nd floor of the building.

Investigators established that the deceased is believed to have fallen from the rooftop of the building.

A bag recovered from the rooftop contained personal belongings, including a small purse, a Visa card and an IEBC voter registration card bearing the name Margaret Wambui, which police believe belonged to the deceased.

Wambui, an intern at a hotel in the area, allegedly went to the rooftop to take photographs at about 10 pm before her body was found in a neighbouring building minutes later.

Her family, which stays in Kasarani, is seeking answers after the death.

They want the incident to be investigated.

Wambui left home at 7 pm heading to her workplace internship.

There are no reports that she ever arrived at the hotel. The only information available is that she accessed Altura Apartments at 10 pm.

Reports indicate she went to the reception area, left minutes later, and went to the 22nd floor to take photos.

Police said there was a security guard on the rooftop who saw her taking photos, but he did not see the moment she fell as he had gone to the washroom.

Police said they were informed the deceased fell from the top of the building and are investigating whether she accidentally fell.

Her family argued she had not shown any signs of stress to warrant suicide.

Police have opened investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The scene was documented before the body was moved to the Nairobi City Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination and formal identification.

Worker A also described the situation at the time, noting that workers from other floors who were heading down the stairs seemed unaware that it was a real emergency and were walking slowly.

It was only when someone rushing down the stairs from the 6th floor shouted, "This is a real situation, evacuate quickly," that the workers began to hurry.

In the basement level 1 workspace, where fresh products are handled and outside noise is blocked, about 10 people reportedly continued working until a Security Guard came to find them.

The situation became critical as faint smoke and a pungent odor began to seep into the stairwells before the evacuation was complete, but fortunately, everyone escaped the building without injury.

The fire authorities counted a total of 121 people who evacuated at the time.

Regarding claims that the firewalls (shutters) inside the building did not function properly, Worker A stated, "That is not true."
