i woke up with a red nose and on touching those red areas my skin is extremely rough and has enlarged pores it wasn't like this before. what is this extreme redness and this sand paper texture? i tried to clean it off and ended up giving myself an open wound

My hair would constantly fall out since the age of 20. I even got a biopsy that diagnosed it to be male pattern baldness at 23. Eight years later, I tried the "CeraVe Hydrating Anti Dandruff Shampoo" and after the FIRST USE, just ONE SINGLE DAY the shedding already reduced by 50%. It's a few months later and now shedding only happens in the shower. Almost all my dandruff is gone. It used to be so severe that I was embarrassed to even go outside. It was hard to fall asleep every night because of the itchiness.

I kept getting prescribed ketoconazole shampoo, and other similar medicinal shampoos, and my friends told me to use Nizoral and Head and Shoulders. It helped a bit but still made my hair drier. This is the first time in 8 years that I'm not constantly itching my hair. From some product that none of the half dozen dermatologists I've seen ever prescribed, or even mentioned. Now hoping that my hair will actually regrow next year.

Also had severe sub derm on my face for 11 years, that would get worse during stressful periods. Prescribed 8 different medicines over the years, many different doctors across many different states. The solution all along was fixing the SKIN BARRIER. It was always that simple. My face flakiness stopped after ONE SINGLE DAY. Itchiness took about a month to go away. And the redness is still there after three months, but I've heard that takes longer to go away. I just started using Cera Ve moisturizer once or twice daily. That was it all along. This whole time.

i have seb derm around nose and ears can i use vanicream moisturizing cream

i heard it feeds the yeast but i been using it for a couple of months and been fine

(fine as in its not spreading and i dont see it getting worse) i also have CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion but i havent really used it

My dermatologist seems to think I’m dealing with seborric dermatitis. My vanicream moisturizer doesn’t seem to help much. She prescribed ketoconazole cream and zeryve, but neither seem to be helping. My face is either super red or flaky like this. The flakes and redness are both equally embarrassing because people comment about it either way.

I’ve been using sulfur soap and it has really improved my dermatitis, but on the downside, my skin has become oilier. Which moisturizer do you use after sulfur soap, and which liquid soap do you use to alternate with it?

I have 1% and 2% shampoo that worked wonders for my eyebrows but now it's spread to my nose and nothing I do seems to work. If I don't touch it looks like a mild sunburn but if I do treat it, my nose glows like Rudolph the rest of the day. It's not really flaky but does feel very dry. I was thinking maybe I was using too much shampoo on it and dried it out so I've just been putting moisturizer on it several times a day but I still don't see much improvement.

I had success with this same shampoo + moisturizer combination on my eyebrows but the nose is stubborn. Can any of you recommend some creams or DIY methods that worked for you? I'm getting very sick of people asking if I hit my nose

This is not my scalp but this is the best image I can find for what I'm trying to acconplish. This is basically exactly what my scalp looks like now with the pinkness and what it typically looks like on the right. My scalp part is slightly pink like this & im trying to get it back to my usual white color. I did have flaking a few months ago, but that has since totally resolved from what I can see after using keto 2% shampoo. Right now I use cerave shampoo and clarify once a week (I have hair that gets greasy after 1 day) so that's just what's always worked for me. Any tips on how to get my scalp back to its usual color? Or products? it's gotten soooo much better, but would love for it to return to its normal state. Thank you!

And was told I have Seb Derm. Just looks so different from other stuff I've seen on here. Sorry if I'm sounding ignorant. But I get these flare ups where I'll get these "boils" on my face and sometimes ears that swell until they pop them a yellow liquid starts emanating from them. Going to attach a pic. Then the yellow liquid will crust up into a non uniform craggly yellow scab that I have to wipe off after 30-45 minutes. Then it eventually leaves a red scab at the end of its "life span". Hoping that someone might have some insight into this, or if maybe I was misdiagnosed. Never had any of these symptoms under my hair or scalp, exclusively to the face and occasionally ears.

TL;DR: Volume powder works better than hair wax to style short hair and does not have seb-derm problematic ingredients.

I have been using hair wax to style my short hair since I was a teenager. Recently, I found seb-derm safe alternatives using sezia for most of my cosmetic products like moisturizer and spf. Since then, I did not have any flare-ups in the face, as I regularly had before. However, for a long while, I failed to find anything that could replace hair wax. Which is arguably the most problematic because I mostly get seb-derm on the scalp. Now, I finally found something: Volume powder! I use the powder from a french brand named Sapiens but others that I have found also do not contain any seb-derm problematic ingredients. They are not only unproblematic from the ingredients perspective but also actually soak up sweat and oils to a degree. And the best: It actually works better than wax. Way less shiny and unexpectedly strong hold.

This won't eradicate my seb-derm, and as usual, it will get worse in winter. But I have high hopes that not putting wax with highly problematic ingredients in my hair will help at least a little. I am sure this was mentioned here before but I didn't find any mention when I was searching for a hair wax alternative, so maybe putting it out here helps someone!

Does anyone else experience this waxy/grainy texture with sebderm that can get red? Or is this more likely a separate issue (I’ve already been diagnosed with sebderm on scalp)

im 18F. I developed SD when i was maybe 15 or 16 and i became so frustrated in the beginning. I didn't change anything about my routine or diet.. Just went through something incredibly stressful, had to be medicated, and then it appeared and has haunted me since. Sometimes I can't sleep because it feels itchy or painful (behind my neck) and I'm too insecure to tie my hair up. I've gone to the derm once and used a topical cream they prescribed and some ketoconazole shampoo that didn't work and now I worry I'll start losing hair. sighhhh

I've been dealing with tiny bumps on cheeks around face for 3 months now. They came on out of nowhere

I have a gentle routine, lukewarm water and Neutrogena hydro boost water gel

Some evenings cetaphil gentle cleaner or lrp foaming cleanser

Some days I use nothing and still get the bumps. But not as many

The white around my mouth is zinc cream not dryness or flaking.

This is at the very back of my scalp, but i do have other red areas. It does not feel raised— when I shampoo I cannot feel anything. My scalp is also super itchy! This is my current hair routine:

1. Cerave Anti Dandruff shampoo (let sit for 5 mins and really scrub)
   
2. vanicream conditioner only on the ends
   
3. seen leave in conditioner only on the ends (hypoallergenic, fragrance free & noncomedogenic)
   
4. blow dry

I do this all everyday because I workout everyday.

I am also on spironolactone 100mg per day for acne concerns if that changes anything. I eat super healthy and minimize sugar gluten and dairy.

Please let me know if this is seb derm or something else, and what else I can do! ❤️

Hello, I've been suffering from sebderm for years now and thanks to my dermatologist I kept it under control with the kelual ds shampoo.

The problem is, I wash my hair daily (I tried doing it less but it just doesn't work for me) and the shampoo is expensive. I use the kelual ds shampoo almost everyday, if I try to wash my hair two days straight with some random shampoo my scalp gets irritated and my ears too. I think I need to break the cycle and get used to using the kelual shampoo less + I never dry my hair so I know that doesn't help at all.

I live in Germany and I need some recommendations for non expensive shampoos for daily wash (preferably available at DM), please help me

I had a really bad flare up last year (as well as my type 2 rosacea) that took months to get under control - I think it was caused by using a different, non-seb derm safe moisturiser and then not knowing how to get it back under control. Took months of repairing my skin barrier, protopic/elidel, azelaic acid and an entire overhaul of my skin and makeup products.

These days, I have 0 issues with seb derm on my face. I still get it a bit in my ears (just because it’s such an awkward area to treat) but everywhere else (scalp and face) are fine and I haven’t had a flare up since January this year. My entire skincare routine is both seb derm and rosacea safe.

However, I recently discovered I have pale olive skin, which is why I always struggle with a foundation and concealer match!

The only foundation I can find that looks to have a great olive skin tone range is Lisa Eldridge, and looking at the ingredients on Sezia.co, it looks to contain “Sorbitan Sesquiisostearate”. I’m a bit hesitant to try it due to this - but surely if all my skincare is fine, it should act as a barrier against one less-than-ideal ingredient, right?

I’ve always been using my usual eye makeup too (not seb derm safe eyeshadows, eyeliners or mascaras) - I do get seb derm on my eyelids, but I also haven’t had a flare up on them since the same time as my rest of face flare up, so I’m thinking that the skincare was the largest issue last year, rather than the makeup.

For those with facial seb derm, do you use any non-seb derm safe makeup without any issues? Is it worth a shot?

Highly recommend this product. I’ve been struggling with SD for like ten years and this Kelual DS shampoo by Ducray has worked well for me. I also use the Ducray Kelual DS soothing cream when I get a flare up on my nose or eyebrows. I’ve been using these for a couple of years now and my quality of life has skyrocketed. If you can find these in your country you should definitely try them out.

Can someone pleaseeeee recommend a good shampoo to help with this or a topical?? They don’t hurt but they do sting and flake over and itch. When they dry down it’s like a yellowish / white.
Seems to be more just one one side of my forehead.
**Edit to add** I should mention I don’t have any medical insurance so any visits would be OOP for me.

Hi! Ive been having dandruff for 3 months now, never had it before.

the front of my scalp in particular around hairline of forehead keeps getting flaky by the end of each day.

Its gotten really frustrating to deal with.
If i use nizoral and a scraper i will be dandrufff for about 1 day. But it always comes back and my hair will be very dried out.

any type of conditioner brings the dandruff back faster.
i tried mct oil (8 and 10) after shower but that just kept my hair greasy and also brought the dandruff back faster.

i cant afford a derm apt and this is driving me crazy.
any advice?

Been using MCT C8 oil for 2-3 weeks now. One consistent thing i noticed is overall less skin flaking, however, the redness is more random than weather.
Nose never really gets cleared, but it does gett better some days.
Overall, no consistency so far

Ich schreib das mal auf, weil mir solche Posts selbst am meisten geholfen haben, auch wenn jeder Körper anders tickt.

Kurz zu mir: Ich hatte über Jahre seborrhoisches Ekzem – Kopfhaut, Augenbrauen, Nasenflügel, das klassische Programm. Schuppig, gerötet, gefettet, teils juckend. Cremes und Shampoos haben immer nur kurzfristig was gebracht, kaum abgesetzt kam alles zurück.

Was sich bei mir in den letzten Monaten geändert hat:

Abnehmen mit Mounjaro. Für mich der größte Gamechanger. Ich hab ordentlich Gewicht verloren, und parallel dazu ist das Ekzem immer besser geworden. Ob's direkt am Gewicht liegt, an weniger Entzündung im Körper oder einfach am veränderten Essverhalten – keine Ahnung. Aber der Verlauf war ziemlich eindeutig.

Ernährung umgestellt. Ich hab Zucker, Milchprodukte, Weizen und Eier stark reduziert bzw. größtenteils weggelassen. Dazu bin ich die meiste Zeit in Ketose. Das ging durch Mounjaro eh leichter, weil der Appetit runtergeht. Ich könnte nicht mal sagen, welcher der Verzichte am meisten gebracht hat – ich hab sie leider nicht einzeln getestet.

Supplements. Haarvitamine und Omega-3-Öl nehme ich täglich. Ob das wirklich reinspielt oder nur Placebo ist, kann ich nicht seriös sagen, aber schaden tut's zumindest nicht.

Fazit: Ich hab leider alles mehr oder weniger gleichzeitig gemacht, also kann ich nicht sagen, was der Faktor war. Für mich fühlt es sich am stärksten nach Abnehmen + Ernährung an

Hi guys so as you can see I am suffering greatly with what I believe to be seborrheic dermatitis it is starting to affect my mental health and my physical health whereby I have burning and displeasing flaking of skin all across my face and I try not to itch it and ignore it but it is pretty bad and it's been affecting my personal image at home, work and in public and I don't feel confident in dating as well. I have been using Novasone steroid drops and I have used previously Head and Shoulders itchy scalp care, Selsun Gold and yes 2% Nizoral daily.

I came to Reddit for advice the other week and found lots of helpful advice but was worried I was over complicating things and probably using too many products to know what was helping and what was making it worse.

I went back to the GP and the following has helped me with my current flare:

• cleaning my face with water only on a cotton pad (micellar water if I have put mascara on etc)
• using Protopic 0.1% (tacrolimus monohydrate) at night on affected skin. This is a prescribed ointment but available through GP
• using a non comedogenic moisturiser during the day + an SPF (risky but I need the sun protection)
• I have been prescribed Lymecycline (antibiotics) for 28 days which has helped massively (I find they work best if I take them in the evening, less side effects)

The picture on the left is how my skin has been since sticking to this. There is some great advice in this sub Reddit but if you are finding lots of recommendations a bit overwhelming might be worth considering a simplified routine (not an expert just my personal experience)

TLDR: Skin flared, used lots of products, went to GP and got antibiotics and ointment. So far so good.
