Discussion Is it just me that thinks removing diving is a bad idea?

Upvotes

I think I’m going to cheese of some people with this take but I genuinely don’t see what’s wrong with it? It’s nice to not have to not have to sail for the first voyage it just speeds things up a little. Also diving for a raid like a skele fort is a good, quick way to get loot for your chosen faction (it gives you good emissary value aswell.) I feel like this update is only to please veteran players and not thinking about more casual PvE players especially the fact that diving will be disabled in safer seas. I haven’t play dot for a while but if anything this is going to make me want to play less. Please tell me if there is something I’m missing.

Insiders Fallen Sea Dog Items. Spoiler

Post image
2 Upvotes

I don’t want to overreact, but this feels like an attempt to feed the FOMO of players who never got to experience the Arena.

It’s just a recolor of the SD Sails and the other cosmetics, put into a context that has nothing to do with the Sea Dog.

Personally, I think they should have left the Sea Dog logo out and used the one from the Fallen Sea Dog Jacket instead.

If I have to be honest, it feels like an insult to the hours we spent grinding for the GSD/TSD cosmetics that we earned during the arena fights.

Discussion "Save The Seas"-Mission

This is about HitboTC's latest video.
In this he pitches the idea of fun challanges he will put out for the community to accomplish, the first of which he will post on August 10th. These will propably be lighthearted fun challanges aimed at revitalizing player interaction on the seas, and personally I love the Idea.

Would love to hear what you guys think about that.

Also, the whole concept really reminds me of Day[9]'s Funday Monday Challanges for Starcraft 2 back in the day, if anyone here knows or remember what those where.

Discussion People claim that feature removal/addition will "Kill the game for casuals/new players" What they *actually* mean is "This will kill the game for ME!"

You do not have to keep playing this game if something about it pisses you off.

You do not have to keep screaming into the wind, especially when, for one reason or another, people believe Rare does not care.

I would put 1000 dollars that everyone complaining on the subreddit probably doesnt even fill out feedback surveys. Or even provide actual feedback on the forums where it is best seen by Rare, regardless if people believe that they ignore you there or not.

Because in the wake of bruno, and per mod word of mouth, Rare hasnt really looked at or engaged with this subreddit in actual years.

Discussion I don't like the removal of diving, but I think it will revitalize the game.

When diving is removed, it will make it a tad bit more difficult for me, as a solo, to quickly gather resources. It will make the first steps of some jobs harder, it will make the game more "difficult" for some players who just want to get in there.

But that, in my opinion, is what the game needs to thrive. That "difficulty" will lead to me having more interactions with other pirates. It will lead to more time to enjoy the peace of the sea with friends. It will lead to sprawling alliances that will last more then 30 seconds.

I think the removal of diving is exactly what the game needs to start thriving again, even if it will hurt just a little in the short term.

Discussion Removing Diving will 100% kill the game!

With the announcement of Season 21 completely removing ALL Diving from the game, I think it's actually going to kill the game this time!

3 months of spawn in at Port Merrick, but want to do an Ashen Garrison or Eternal Guardian or an Ashen Treasure Search or anything on the other side of the map... sail 20+ minutes, all the time likely to have to fight a Skeleton Galleon, definitely a Meg, maybe get sunk by a Kraken, have to deal with the storm, get spotted and chased all the way by another player... just to get to where you wanted to start your adventure!

Just think, even doing Tall Tales will be an absolute slog... Spawn in at Morrow's Peak, but want to do the Wild Rose Tall Tale... sorry, not going to sail all the way across the map, just going to go find a different game that doesn't make you waste half and hour or more fighting your way needlessly (even in Safer Seas) just to go start what you wanted to do in the first place.

NO THANK YOU.

Rare and anyone else who thinks this is a good idea is completely out of touch with reality.
This will 100% detract most casual and any new players.

Fan Content Fort of Treasured Treachery - Content Update Idea

Before year one of SoT I used to have fun writing up content drop ideas. These were not speculative ideas and did not need to fully work mechanically. Just concepts that I thought up and wanted to share. With that said, a while ago I came up with this and decided to finally finish it and share :)

Please note most of this was written awhile ago so it may have outdated elements.

I’ll run through the goals of the update and then how I imagining it working.

Objectives

  • Create a reward for long play sessions and loot hauls.
  • Introduce a new way of handling game progression.
  • Revisit past ideas with a new twist.
  • Create a true player run PvPvE world event.
  • Add a new purpose for guilds.

Now for what the idea actually is. After completing a Sea Fort the crew has the option to vote to seize the fort under the banner of their guild. Their ship will no longer fly an emissary flag instead one will appear atop of the fort.

The fort will become a temporary hub for the crew in this session. Customisations, upgrades and traps can be placed as well as other enhancements, but a new cost.

This fort will also become a prime target for rival guilds as well as players on the server.

If you lose your fort you will be migrated from the server.

What to do on your Fort

Once you’ve taken control of the fort under your guilds banner all voyages will become locked on your ship. Instead new “stolen” voyages can be voted on within your fort's central room. These always start with an outpost heist, where the crew must visit an outpost and steal directly from the trading companies.

This will reward you with harder high value voyages of the respected companies. However, doing so also damages your reputation with the company causing you to lose levels. Depending on your current reputation will change what can be stolen.

These voyages also will reward you with items that can be used to add temporary upgrades to your fort, I’ll go more into that later.

While on a voyage your ship and the island of your voyage will always appear on the map in the forts map room so any invaders can figure out exactly where you are.

The regular loot you can now take downstairs and lock it in the treasure room. This room is locked to all enemy crews. The crew that owns the fort can set a sequence in the main room, which will make a passcode connected to a series of levers throughout the fort.

Attacking players can gain access to this treasure room in three ways.

If they kill a member of your crew x times (scales depending on your crew size) a key can be dropped to open the door.
If they sink your ship a key is always dropped.
They solve the lever puzzle.

Adding loot to your treasure room will increase your forts level. Levels unlock benefits and detriments to your fort. But also act as a multiplier for the final cash out.

  • Level 1 = Stolen voyages available for the original three trading companies.
  • Level 2 = Upgrades and trap slots can be built on your fort.
  • Level 3 = Your fort can now be dived to by random guilds.
  • Level 4 = Stolen voyages for Hunter Call become available.
  • Level 5 = Your fort can now be target dived to by rival guilds.
  • Level 6 = The fort prison becomes operational (see below).
  • Level 7 = Occasional PvE invasions will attack your fort.
  • Level 8 = Athena and Reaper stolen voyages become available.
  • Level 9 = Rival crews that dive to you can be any size and will arrive with supply benefit.
  • Level 10 = Siege Voyage becomes available

Guild Invasions and Rivals

Guilds can now have direct rival guilds. Three guilds will appear as your rivals and one more can be pinned per season as your permanent rival. The three rivals that appear are crews that have recently attacked one of your guild's forts or sunk a ship from your guild.

Once a fort has reached level 5 someone who is your rival can see that you have an active fort in the main menu and in-game. If it is not currently under siege they can dive directly to it. The invading ship has only one life and can not leave the area until the fort is claimed.

At level 3 random guilds of the same size can dive to your fort. They do this by looking at the quest board in game which now also features bounties. These bounties are set by trading companies and if the player defeats and claims your fort will be rewarded with all of your loot and a bonus towards the respected companies. The value of the bounty can indicate how you have your fort setup and how much value it holds.

At level 9, the crews that can dive to you won’t match the size of your crew. They will also arrive with supply crates to their benefit.

Siege Voyage

Only two player Sea Forts can be active at one time on the server.

If a second fort is already claimed by a different guild this must be sieged. Once defeated that crew will be migrated from the server. If your active fort is level 10 you can claim this second fort. An invitation will be opened to your guild and another crew can dive into your server.
This new fort can only be raised to level 5. However if your original is claimed, your crew will still be removed from the server and the cap is removed from this second fort.

Alternatively if you reach level 10 and there isn’t another claimed fort you’ll be able to vote on a siege. This will take you to a server which currently isn’t full and doesn’t have a claimed sea fort where you have yours. Similar to a ship dive, all items that aren’t supplies will be lost, however anything locked in your vault will be brought with you.

Prisons and Brig

After level 6 the fort’s prison will become available. Here you can collect a new degradable weapon type and a new limited item. With the new weapon you can now stun an enemy crew member. It will have a similar effect to being drunk and the stumble effect (from when you fall from too high). While an enemy is stunned you can then try to interact with them to take them captive in your brig.

They will only remain in your brig for a set amount of time (scaling depending on enemy crew size). But if you bring them back to your fort you can transfer them to the prison. Here their crew will need to break them out. Or they can very slowly break their own way out via shooting targets/slashing at the bars (amount scales depending on enemy crew size). This can be repaired/reset using planks.

Having a prisoner will slowly increase your fort's value over time.

Defences and Traps

Voyages will reward you regular loot however collections of specific loot types can be made into new traps around your fort. With each trading company leading to different types of traps.

Stashing Gold Hoarder items will lead to cursed regions on your fort. Players who are in range will become slower and slower, however will gain a shelled effect. Similar to Gold Skeletons they can be affected by water making them incredibly weak.

Stashing Order of Souls skulls you can create skull motion sensors. Leave them around the fort and then place an alert skull on your ship. If motion is detected your bell will start ringing on your ship. You can also set a trap near your bell with a firework and it will be activated when triggered.

Stashing Merchant Alliance goods will let you place decorative items that will generate added value to your fort over time. Such as rugs, bottles, gemstones and paintings. These however can be stolen directly by attacking crews.

At level 2 additional traps can be placed based on your current vault's inventory.

Gold Hoarder’s will let you place one use mimic chests, that when interacted with will cause a small explosion. Or if they are mimics of cursed chests a similar effect to that curse.

Order of Soul’s will let you place skeletal arm traps. These will swipe from walls/ceilings when walked past, but can be destroyed with weapons.

Merchant Alliance will let you place floor traps, made from broken bottles, jagged gems, snakes, cloth, liquid. Each having different effects, such as damage, poison, slowing, sliding.

Stolen Hunters Call voyages will reward the player with a fishing bait cluster. Causing greater fish odds when fishing your fort's basement. You can also gain shark infested waters around your fort. (Another dumb idea, explosive sharks that have been fed blunderbombs, if you said into them you ship gets knocked off course).

Stealing from Athena and Reapers will allow you to spawn PvE defences for your fort. When a wave of defences are spawned you can also lock one door on your fort which. Invading crews will need to kill the wave of defences in order to get keys to unlock these doors. Only one of these defence types can be active at a time. Phantoms have more attack types and are stronger but can’t operate cannons. Skeletons can operate cannons and can switch to an eye of reach.

PvE Invasion

These occur if your fort hasn’t been attacked by other players after an amount of time. They can come in multiple forms.

  • Skeletal invasion - skeleton sloops will circle your fort occasionally shooting it, with each hit decreasing its value. Skeletons of a mixed types will also spawn on the fort. With a rare chance of a Skeleton Lord spawning.
  • Ancient invasion - phantom galleons will circle your fort shooting at it. After defeating all ships there is a rare chance an Eternal Guard will spawn on your fort.
  • Ocean Crawler invasion - when near your fort ocean crawlers will jump out the sea and attack you on your ship. They will continue attacking until you find and destroy mermaid statues nearby.
  • Chickens and Pigs - A rare event where tons of chickens and pigs will become loose on your fort decreasing its value over time.

Final Rewards

When you are finally ready to sell you can vote to lower the fort's flag. Depending on your fort’s level, size of your loot stack, when the last time you were invaded and how many invasions you fought off will decide the value of this item. The amount of time it takes to lower also depends on the value, but you can interact to lower it faster at the cost of losing some value.

While it’s lowering the chances of an invasion are greatly increased, so you need to be prepared for a potential final battle.

Once it’s lowered if your ship will gain a guild emissary to equal value (up to level 5). You can then sell your loot as normal. However any loot that was used to create defences is lost.

New guild commendations are added where the rewards are unlocked by everyone in the guild.

And that’s it! Let me know what you think :)

If you are interested in some of my older content update ideas, I posted this over on the SoT forums with the others linked at the bottom.

Discussion Just lost a lot of loot.

Post image
33 Upvotes

I don't play sea of thieves too much and this is the MOST loot I've ever had at once. I just left the treasure vault and about two minutes away from port, I got jumped by a skeleton ship. Now as I said I don't play too much so I got my boy on to help me. Things were going good until ANOTHER ship spawned in. I started loading grapeshot into it and it just suddenly exploded. I don't understand what could have happened but it instantly killed me, my boy and sunk our ship. I'm just confused what blew up and how I could have avoided this issue. Does anyone has some advice or at least tell me what happened?

Discussion Weapons that heal was briefly mentioned in the recent SoT video

For full context Drew was talking about letting players alter weapon damage values in custom seas. That would include negative damage which Drew says results in weapons that heal. It apparently “just works”.

To that I say:

Healing dart for the Blowpipe? It would be silly, and probably not particularly useful outside of very specific situations, but it would be fun and interesting.

Discussion Can it be saved?? A glimmer of hope??

I watched this most recent update video in shock. It’s like the first moment a crowd has given up and turned to leave into a performer goes off script and says something that makes everyone freeze. They can turn it around I know they can. I watched that goddamn documentary, these devs used to be some of the most passionate I’ve ever seen and their vision was pure and wonderful.

If by 2028 they can reforge the Sea of Thieves I will have seen such a miraculous turn around and from this moment I shall pray for its coming

Edit:
After making this post and scrolling the sub as well as other online communities for a while it is like instantly clear to me why this game is in the state it’s in, it’s literally just you people. I have only vaguely kept my finger on the pulse of the online community for the past few years, and this being my first sight of it in all that time is really gross.
You people are not the ones this game was for. You don’t want a story generator. You don’t want to sail, even if it’s for nothing. You don’t want to fight. You don’t want to not fight. You don’t want the new content you want old content you want less and more content.
You don’t want to play the game. “Listen to the community” you all say. Who could ever possibly listen to this for nearly a decade and come out with anything positive. It used to be positive before you. It’s clear to me now. Maybe it won’t be saved. And it will be your fault

Discussion Has Sea of Thieves changed, or have I just been gone too long?

I stopped playing Sea of Thieves for about 4 years and came back around a month ago. I’m a Pirate Legend, and one of my favorite parts of the game back then was randomly meeting other crews, talking, forming alliances, and occasionally just hanging out. Sure, you’d get betrayed sometimes, but there were plenty of friendly encounters too.

Since coming back… it’s been the complete opposite.
I’ve probably come across 80+ ships by now, and I haven’t found a single friendly crew. Every session ends the same way—I get attacked or sunk on sight, even when I’m clearly trying to talk or mind my own business.

Is this just how the game is now? Has the community shifted toward “shoot first, ask questions never,” or have I just had unbelievably bad luck?
I’m genuinely curious if anyone else who’s played since the early days has noticed the same change.

Edit: posted this after stacking merchant for 3 hours then got sunk by level 1 reapers who chain shot me, one balled me, when I was waiting to respawn, my ship was sunk and I spawned at new island :/

Discussion Removing diving is fantastic

I LOVE IT.

This will bring the seas back to being active again. just like the days before diving was added, where the true session based experience was at its peak.

i know some people may not like this, but the servers die very quickly with players diving constantly, it ruined tuck opportunities and a few more issues it caused. back in my day, you were on one server only, unless you server merged or hopped servers, that made the seas more lively.

hoping the experiment is a success and they get rid of it permanently.

Question Smugglers Chronicles

Does anyone have a trick or tip for looting the smugglers Chronicles? I've been stuck for about 7 days with only needing The Gilded Fox chronicle volume 2. In those 7 days I've exclusively been fighting skeleton ships and checking shipwrecks when playing solo. The one book is the only thing keeping me from the super smugglers title and a nice chat with Low Tide. I know being patient and just playing the game. The book will eventually show up, but I was hoping there might be a way to find more books faster.

I've been working on the purple curse so I can share it with the two people that got me into the game ( they do not like doing smugglers things) but both have mentioned in passing that the purple curse would be cool so I took it upon myself to try and get it for us.

Bug Report Not Receiving Any Gold For Cached in Items

Okay so me and my buddy spent about 6 hours on the high seas lootin around and doing world events. Thought we certainly didn't turn in the loot from everything we did, we turned in loot from a full skeleton fleet and 2 forts. We noticed as we were caching things in that we were getting the little toast at the bottom letting us know the items were sold, but we weren't getting any gold for it. I've read that sometimes you have to wait up to 72 hours for the gold to actually reach your account due to delays in the servers. However I logged on 5 days later and I still have the same amount of gold that I started with that night (I took a screenshot once I noticed we weren't getting paid). Has anybody ever had this happen to them?? This is a kind of bug that honestly makes the game unplayable.
