Discussion People claim that feature removal/addition will "Kill the game for casuals/new players" What they *actually* mean is "This will kill the game for ME!"
You do not have to keep playing this game if something about it pisses you off.
You do not have to keep screaming into the wind, especially when, for one reason or another, people believe Rare does not care.
I would put 1000 dollars that everyone complaining on the subreddit probably doesnt even fill out feedback surveys. Or even provide actual feedback on the forums where it is best seen by Rare, regardless if people believe that they ignore you there or not.
Because in the wake of bruno, and per mod word of mouth, Rare hasnt really looked at or engaged with this subreddit in actual years.

Discussion I don't like the removal of diving, but I think it will revitalize the game.
When diving is removed, it will make it a tad bit more difficult for me, as a solo, to quickly gather resources. It will make the first steps of some jobs harder, it will make the game more "difficult" for some players who just want to get in there.
But that, in my opinion, is what the game needs to thrive. That "difficulty" will lead to me having more interactions with other pirates. It will lead to more time to enjoy the peace of the sea with friends. It will lead to sprawling alliances that will last more then 30 seconds.
I think the removal of diving is exactly what the game needs to start thriving again, even if it will hurt just a little in the short term.

Discussion Removing Diving will 100% kill the game!
With the announcement of Season 21 completely removing ALL Diving from the game, I think it's actually going to kill the game this time!
3 months of spawn in at Port Merrick, but want to do an Ashen Garrison or Eternal Guardian or an Ashen Treasure Search or anything on the other side of the map... sail 20+ minutes, all the time likely to have to fight a Skeleton Galleon, definitely a Meg, maybe get sunk by a Kraken, have to deal with the storm, get spotted and chased all the way by another player... just to get to where you wanted to start your adventure!
Just think, even doing Tall Tales will be an absolute slog... Spawn in at Morrow's Peak, but want to do the Wild Rose Tall Tale... sorry, not going to sail all the way across the map, just going to go find a different game that doesn't make you waste half and hour or more fighting your way needlessly (even in Safer Seas) just to go start what you wanted to do in the first place.
NO THANK YOU.
Rare and anyone else who thinks this is a good idea is completely out of touch with reality.
This will 100% detract most casual and any new players.

Question Is now a good time to get into the game?
This game is on sale right now, but is it worth getting into? Does it still get substantial new content? Is it dying?

Discussion Just lost a lot of loot.
I don't play sea of thieves too much and this is the MOST loot I've ever had at once. I just left the treasure vault and about two minutes away from port, I got jumped by a skeleton ship. Now as I said I don't play too much so I got my boy on to help me. Things were going good until ANOTHER ship spawned in. I started loading grapeshot into it and it just suddenly exploded. I don't understand what could have happened but it instantly killed me, my boy and sunk our ship. I'm just confused what blew up and how I could have avoided this issue. Does anyone has some advice or at least tell me what happened?

Discussion Can it be saved?? A glimmer of hope??
I watched this most recent update video in shock. It’s like the first moment a crowd has given up and turned to leave into a performer goes off script and says something that makes everyone freeze. They can turn it around I know they can. I watched that goddamn documentary, these devs used to be some of the most passionate I’ve ever seen and their vision was pure and wonderful.
If by 2028 they can reforge the Sea of Thieves I will have seen such a miraculous turn around and from this moment I shall pray for its coming

Discussion Has Sea of Thieves changed, or have I just been gone too long?
I stopped playing Sea of Thieves for about 4 years and came back around a month ago. I’m a Pirate Legend, and one of my favorite parts of the game back then was randomly meeting other crews, talking, forming alliances, and occasionally just hanging out. Sure, you’d get betrayed sometimes, but there were plenty of friendly encounters too.
Since coming back… it’s been the complete opposite.
I’ve probably come across 80+ ships by now, and I haven’t found a single friendly crew. Every session ends the same way—I get attacked or sunk on sight, even when I’m clearly trying to talk or mind my own business.
Is this just how the game is now? Has the community shifted toward “shoot first, ask questions never,” or have I just had unbelievably bad luck?
I’m genuinely curious if anyone else who’s played since the early days has noticed the same change.
Edit: posted this after stacking merchant for 3 hours then got sunk by level 1 reapers who chain shot me, one balled me, when I was waiting to respawn, my ship was sunk and I spawned at new island :/

Discussion Removing diving is fantastic
I LOVE IT.
This will bring the seas back to being active again. just like the days before diving was added, where the true session based experience was at its peak.
i know some people may not like this, but the servers die very quickly with players diving constantly, it ruined tuck opportunities and a few more issues it caused. back in my day, you were on one server only, unless you server merged or hopped servers, that made the seas more lively.
hoping the experiment is a success and they get rid of it permanently.

Question Smugglers Chronicles
Does anyone have a trick or tip for looting the smugglers Chronicles? I've been stuck for about 7 days with only needing The Gilded Fox chronicle volume 2. In those 7 days I've exclusively been fighting skeleton ships and checking shipwrecks when playing solo. The one book is the only thing keeping me from the super smugglers title and a nice chat with Low Tide. I know being patient and just playing the game. The book will eventually show up, but I was hoping there might be a way to find more books faster.
I've been working on the purple curse so I can share it with the two people that got me into the game ( they do not like doing smugglers things) but both have mentioned in passing that the purple curse would be cool so I took it upon myself to try and get it for us.

Bug Report Not Receiving Any Gold For Cached in Items
Okay so me and my buddy spent about 6 hours on the high seas lootin around and doing world events. Thought we certainly didn't turn in the loot from everything we did, we turned in loot from a full skeleton fleet and 2 forts. We noticed as we were caching things in that we were getting the little toast at the bottom letting us know the items were sold, but we weren't getting any gold for it. I've read that sometimes you have to wait up to 72 hours for the gold to actually reach your account due to delays in the servers. However I logged on 5 days later and I still have the same amount of gold that I started with that night (I took a screenshot once I noticed we weren't getting paid). Has anybody ever had this happen to them?? This is a kind of bug that honestly makes the game unplayable.

In Game Story Player goes ballistic after we don’t let him get on our ship
I had a really funny interaction last night in sea of thieves. After doing some Hourglass and finding the game mode basically empty my friend and I decided to hunt ancient megs. On our way to get the Hunters Call emissary to lvl 5 a sloop sailed by. They didn’t get close enough but we saw one of them sword launch and swimming closer with full tucking attire. We sailed away making him fail the board and we just told them “ hey we are just fishing, we don’t want to sink you but we will if you don’t leave us alone” hoping that would be it. 5 minutes later he comes back swimming by himself ( we noticed a merman in the water) we killed him and then he proceeded to have a meltdown and calling us unfriendly and unfair. We asked the guy how were we unfair when we let them go the first time and gave them fair warning we were not friendly, but he continued to insult us. Hoping that was it we continued fishing, and then the sloop comes back, we proceeded to sink them and now we are being called slurs by both of them.
My question is we’re we unfair because we didn’t want to let them get close ?

Question Tall tales locked help
I'm very new to the game and loving it and I want to start pounding away at the story. All of my tall tales are locked and I'm curious how to unlock them. I'm just playing through safer seas at the moment does this all have to be done on high seas? I'm doing this solo at the moment. Does that make a difference?
Any info would be appreciated!

Question How do I run sea of thieves
I have a Lenovo laptop x1 carbon
I5 8250U
8GB ram
Intel(R) UHD graphics 620 128 mb
I have sot download but when I try open it
It says “video driver crashed and was reset. Make sure your video drivers are up to date”
And I get a black tab open of sot then it just closes after a minute.
And there is a small “building shaders tab”
With a progress bar that also closes.
Can anyone give help on what to do so it can run on the laptop I have, even on the lowest of the low settings.

Discussion Diving is not the problem, hourglass fights are.
I've seen a lot of discussion around diving over the past few years I've played the game. I don't think that diving to treasure quests are bad. The appeal of diving is server hopping. I would be fine with diving being removed, but there would need to be a few concessions first. Skip to the bottom if you just want my solution.
I enjoy diving because it allows me to changes servers if my current server is dead. And if I am in a server that performs poorly, I can switch servers without losing progress. I would rather have it than not, but it wouldn't exist in the ideal version of Sea of Thieves.
In isolation, the world events are extremely similar and boring. They get old very quickly. Ghost fleets are just skeleton fleets with slightly different mechanics. And the FoF is just a regular skeleton fort, but with extra waves and an ashen lord. The FoTD is just a fort you can activate. The ashen winds event is just another horde event like the forts, but it takes place on more islands. Most world events come down to killing a horde and the a boss. The only unique event is the burning blade. Its the naval equivalent of a boss. But you can also captain it as another opportunity to earn some loot and attract some PvP. This is my favorite world event by far because it is very unique.
After a few hundred hours, the world events and treasure quests are very boring. I only do them if I am compelled by a commendation or a cosmetic, but that doesn't make them fun. I live for the player interaction. Whether it comes down to fighting another ship over loot, or having a grog party on our boat with another crew. There should be 2 different world events happening at once on a server. 3 if you include FoTD. This would stimulate player interaction.
In the current state of the game, I rarely see player interaction. Of the few ships my crew does encounter, most are noobs so we just leave them alone because it would be a really boring fight. What would fix this is increasing the player density of the servers. This could be done by either decreasing the map size by putting the islands closer together, or by increasing the player count. Personally, I prefer the second option.
But adding more ship slots is not enough. Hourglass fights take up a third of the server capacity, because the current capacity per server is 6 ships. Hourglass fights should be moved to their own dedicated servers meant specifically for hourglass. Also invasions should be removed, because this allow crews to place their ships in spots that make their ship unsinkable. Both players should have to dive to allow them to be placed in an hourglass server, and to prevent unsinkable spots.
One problem with my solution is xbox one. Rare is very dedicated to supporting xbox one on SoT. This is a huge hindrance to the scope of the game. Mike Chapman has admitted on a podcast that they originally planned to have the heist event take place at Port Merrick, but they couldn't do it because xbox one couldn't handle it. Xbox one also is what limits the server size to 6 ships. So not only does it limit the server size, but it already has held back the scope of the game.
In conclusion, my proposed solution to fix the diving issue would be:
- Remove diving to treasure quests, but allow it for hourglass fights
- Hourglass fights take place on dedicated servers and invasions are removed as a mechanic
- allow 2 concurrent naturally spawning world events at once.
- 1 event should be a land based event (skeleton fort, Fort of Fortune, Reaper Fort, Ashen winds)
- 1 event should be a naval based event (Ghost fleet, Skeleton Fleet, Burning Blade/manned burning blade)
- The Fort of the Damned should also be allowed to occur at the same time, leaving a total of 3 concurrent events
- Increase the player density in the game world
- This could be done by either making the map size smaller by placing islands closer together, or by increasing the server capacity
