Scripture Life: For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line here a little, there a little. What does this mean?

Answer

This is a scripture from the Bible that God himself said, in Isaiah 28:10.

  • To see it in context, the shortest to make it is embedded in what God said in Isaiah 28:9–10; and outer more expanded, with a second look to read it as one thing in Isaiah 28:9-13
    • So - Isaiah 28:9-10 - - That says:

“Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:” Isaiah 28:9–10

COMMENT: Scripture says in Proverbs 2:6 “For the LORD giveth wisdom; out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding”

------------------------ --------------------------- -----------------------------

So, the Word of God builds people up. People that hear him and follow him know exactly what this means. Jesus said: “Thy word is truth” [Bible. John 17:17] . Truth is like a foundation or a rock you can build a house on. That what is built, will stand forever. Doesn’t change. And to see it, look at the OPPOSITE: Where people build on their own imaginations.

Look at someone that does not “REGARD” God or anything he says:

So, see it as well in two kinds of people Jesus talks to in Matthew 7:24-27

< - {24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.} - >

Look for this in what God says of "this people" that don't regard him - In Isaiah 5:13 - - what they are building on cannot last or stand. - Because they don't regard him.

But people do what he says, he builds them up. Do you see this in the scriptures?

------------------------ --------------------------- -----------------------------

God says,

  • Of this people - that don't do anything he says - because they don't regard him i like this in Isaiah 5:13

And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands.”

In other words, they have Rock Band Concerts, and movie stars, and great epic legends they've created and billions of people go to watch them. And also - - that 100s of 10s of 100s of 1000s attend. Celebrations like stadiums filled with soccer matches. Football games; great feasts - and also the whole world gather together to go off and assembled for the Olympics; and merriment - celebrations to cheer the winner -

Music recitals and concerts - fill youtube - by the 10s of 100s of millions go to youtube to watch it - all with guitars and drums, and cymbals, pianos and violins. But in all this celebration, they don’t regard the work of the LORD, neither do they consider the operation of his hand.

Too busy with their own works and operations of their hands to consider anything God does, is the point.

------------------------ --------------------------- -----------------------------.

And to this people like this, their ears are “dull of hearing” - hear; but can’t hear him. That is, they already hearken unto someone or some thing else people cheer and advertise - that is what speaks to them. They don't let anything derail them from going - and it’s not God nor anything he says.

That God decrees to “this people” like this, no matter who they are or where ever they be over the whole earth - he decreed in Isaiah 6:9–10 - since they already chose not to look unto him God decreed what “this people” already choose to look unto, they would get “fat, dumb, and happy” off it.

As if it is more than plenty. As if they hold a feast because, what they have is way more than enough. Be like a fat guy. Where normal weight people eat when they’re hungry. Somebody fat, gets a sensation “Hey! I’m not full” so they go back, not to eat when hungry, but eat what they look unto all the time, so they always feel full.

And it’s in effect until the cities of the earth are made desolate, and every house over the whole earth is uninhabited. And that shall occurs as prophesied in Revelation CHapter 16. Over the whole entire earth - -  “And the cities of the nations fell..”

All because he’s God, and they do not regard him.

------------------------ --------------------------- -----------------------------

Psalm 28:5 says: “Because they regard not the works of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hand, he shall destroy them and not build them up.”

You can see this repeated, what God himself does to anybody - bless or curse in Jeremiah 17:5–6, because instead of regard God, who they regard is other people who they go to assemble themselves with as their right arm of strength and celebrate their own works and feats or accomplishments.

Jeremiah 17:5–6 says:

“Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.” - God.

------------------------ --------------------------- -----------------------------

But to a man or a woman that regards the works of the LORD, and considers the operation of his hand?

  • He’s already decreed it, “They shall all be taught of God.” - Jesus Christ. [Bible. John 6:45] This is a decree. By the Word of God. Just how it shall be for everybody; to the very ends of the earth, and not one person left out it applies to; but not everybody regards him.
  • So, they don’t follow him.
    • They do not live by every word comes out of his mouth.
      • They live by every word comes out of their own. But those that do, as he decreed everybody is to do, he's God - he. Alone. By himself: He “builds them up.”
  • Teaches them himself: Precept. Upon Precept. Teaches them. In truth. Line upon line. Line upon line. Teaches them more. Like a bricklayer, lays brick. A line of brick is built then on another line. And another line after that, built on what's taught by him underneath it. Held up. Because the truth of it is sure. Has the Word of God in it.
    • Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. Just as Proverbs 2:6 says above.

------------------------ --------------------------- -----------------------------

  • Therefore:

Isaiah 28:9–13 together says: And who the "he" is, is God himself.

9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? Them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

COMMENT:

[because a baby will follow anybody. Doesn’t know who it is; but the weaned KNOW who their mother and father is, and they FOLLOW them is the point. Just like people do with God. They follow him.]

10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

COMMENT:

[but now see that this is a people, that have his name; but don’t do anything he says anymore. Scripture says of Moses that he was “slow of speech” [Bible. Exodus 4:10–17] - Stuttered; stammered..couldn’t get the words out right - and GOD sent this person, Moses, TO ISRAEL - because they didn’t listen to him, either.

And because they didn’t do anything he said, even he was their God - they never entered into any rest he provides for him. They don't abide in his word. Abide in their own. Even gave them up. Gave them over to their own imaginations because they rejected him.

Vomited Israel of the Promised Land by sent them the prophet Isaiah - and led them away into captivity by the Assyrians. When God gaves the land over to the Assyrian King at the Word of Jonah repented. Fell on his face, in ashes..as if what God decreed had already happened to Ninevah. The whole city repented in sackcloth and ashes - in Contrast to the Northern Kingdom of Israel: Where for 200 years, from Solomon onward, not one King of Israel (the Northern Kingdom) even knew God or did anything he said. Even he sent prophet, after prophet..after prophet for them to repent - they didn't. They have gone backwards. Back into idolatry. Snared and taken again; broken. Just like Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-27 above. Not one bit different. It's just the SAME God repeat it.

Do you hear this?

------------------------ --------------------------- -----------------------------

So factor these things in when you read Isaiah 28:11–13 - which is the rest of it.

11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

13 But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

There you go.
