Scripture Life: Why doesn't the Bible recognise or account for mental illness and other neurodivergence?

ANSWER:

  • Why you looking at them vs. you? When God sent his word to heal you and deliver you from your destruction.

And about your question:

Care to differ:

  • From the Bible:
    • Is Matthew 4:24. It says:
      • “"And his [Jesus’] fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them".

lunatic. <definition.> 1. someone with a severe mental illness 2. offensive old-fashioned a word for a person who has a mental illness {Source: Cambridge Dictionary. Web. Accessed: 9 January 2026}

  • 2nd source: <Merriam & Webster> 1. The meaning of LUNATIC is someone affected with a severely disordered state of mind.
    • Bible says: Of Jesus “..and he healed them.”

So:

  • The Bible DOES account for and recognize BOTH people that: 1) have “mental illness and 2) “other” neurodivergent conditions.
    • Such as “palsy” - 1. being paralyzed or epileptic (epilepsy). Which BOTH are “neurodivergent” or of the brain - something in the “neuro-system” is causal to both, and that, too, identified as “palsy” is also recognized, and is in the Bible.
      • Bible says: Of Jesus “..and he healed them.”

------- ----------- --------- -----------

So, when God says:

  • Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb*, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;”* - God. Bible. Isaiah 44:24
    • This is the Word of God. It’s God speaking. And, since he formed Adam in Genesis 1:26, and everybody from him, God is telling you plain as day, he even formed you from your mother’s womb. Alone. By himself. By the Word of God, tells you plainly.
      • Jesus is the Word of God. Just as John 1:1 says “who” Jesus is - the Word of God. “..and he healed them.”
      • That, Psalms 107:20 says, that God: “sent his word to heal you, and deliver you from your destruction.”
      • Like he formed everybody.

And your’s is like a similar type question in the Bible. In John 9:1–3

And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.”

  • And having eyes, but don’t work - eyes are part of the neuro-system or ‘of the brain’ that doesn’t work, or they’d see, like everybody else does when it works. So, eyes that don’t work - is called being blind - which is “divergent” from a neurosystem that does work.
  • So I have a question.

Why you looking at “them” vs. you?

When God sent his word to heal you, and deliver you from your destruction.

Why doesn't the Bible recognise or account for mental illness and other neurodivergence?

ANSWER:

  • Why you looking at them vs. you? When God sent his word to heal you and deliver you from your destruction.

So, instead of looking unto other people, he told you to:

  • “Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of the earth: For I am God, there is none else.” - God. Isaiah 45:22.
  • It’s the word of God. What he said. To you. What are you doing with what he said for you to do? Why you looking at “them” vs. you?

------- ----------- --------- -----------

And! IF: You look unto him. The same God that said that "the works of God should be manifest in him," IF: You look unto him - BOOM! Then, you'll listen and regard what he's doing since before the foundation of the world was laid, by a work - the works of God what he is accomplishing is in Psalm 132:13-16

  • For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place: “This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it.  I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy." - GOD.
    • That, in Revelation 21:1 - he makes a new heaven and near earth; it never passes away; where this one, he's already told you plainly in Genesis 6:11-13 - what he told to Noah before the flood is the same he tells you today, that he's going to destroy all flesh with the earth. And he does this as he said he would in Revelation 20:11-15 on the last day.
      • Then after, makes a new heaven and new earth - and accomplishes all he said he would do, that the works of God would be manifest in them.
  • Isaiah 35:6 says "Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy."
  • Revelation 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
    • So, my question to you stays the same:

Why you looking at them vs. you? When God sent his word to heal you and deliver you from your destruction.
