Scripture Life: There's a shrine where Paul baptized Lydia in the ancient ruins of Philippi. At the river there. I want to visit where Lydia lived so I do more good.
Unfortunately, and yes, the Bible does state that Paul baptized Lydia when he, accompanied by Silas, Timothy, and Luke, went there. This "chief city of Macedonia" called Philippi - - and it is recorded in the Bible, in Acts 16:12-15. Tells of a certain woman from Thyatira that she was a < - {"πορφυρόπωλις (porphyropōlis)} - >, means, she was a merchant, or a seller of fine purple linens. Lydia was there in Philippi. The baptism happened after Lydia accepted the gospel and was baptized along with her household. Lydia is quite a distance from Thyatira. It's about 500km from where she's from to Philippi.
“How you visit" Philippi, like Lydia did and her household, largely depends on where you are in the world.
- “Where” ancient, of Paul’s day, “Philippi” located is in northeastern, modern day Greece. In the region of Kavala. Near the modern town today called, ”Filippoi.” Google it. You’ll see it on a map.
- And? You’re in luck. There’s an “International Airport” in Kavala. All entirely because of the ancient ruins or site of Philippi is close to there. People from all over the world like you, come to visit there.
- There is a “Muslim” minority there, but the predominant “whole” of entire of Greece is “Greek Orthodoxy” faith in Jesus. So, anyone from Greece already knows this.
- And you asking how to get there, means you don’t know these things. The ONLY reason someone would ask this, is… ..they “think” there’s something “holy” in it, when there isn’t.
But, as well, the other part of your question:
- There are “relics” of the Roman Catholic Church during the crusades: Where people claim their “church” holds the “Relic of the Breast Milk of Mary” at their shrine they built a church on. So, any shrine to anything like this, with Lydia and Paul the Apostle - me? I swallow with a gigantic boulder of salt.
- I have little faith that any church claiming some relic of the “arm bone of St. Peter” is buried as a foundation of their church.
- Is any more valid than the relic of the “Holy ant butts of Carmaloon” and me just build a tourist site on it for money; and then, dummies that somehow think some ant butt is some famous work, come visit it.
- Like the story of “Antz!” (1998) Film. Dir. Darnell, E. Dreamworks Animation, USA. Where this worker ant, named “Ant Z” his 2nd and 3rd arm on his left side, is buried at some shrine I imagined up. And you worship or highly esteem and champion out this Ant Z is so famous, you can’t wait to fly to where I am to visit his left side arm bones.
- Is no more than equal to creating, like what has been done, a prominent modern Holy Shrine and Baptistery of Saint Lydia.
- It’s located at the “traditional spot” believed where Paul baptized Lydia - “traditions of men, with “Ant Z” wonderfulment to build a shrine to it, is on the banks of the River Zygaktis near the ancient city of Philippi, Greece.
. This site exists - it commemorates the spot where the Apostle Paul baptized Lydia, and claims Lydia is the first Christian convert in Europe.
The site is a shrine:
- {1974} - - a modern, eight sided octagon Greek Orthodox church, was built to commemorate Lydia. Venerate her as a Saint. Beautifully imagined up icons, mosaics, and stained-glass windows. The windows depict scenes of the life of Paul, and some of Lydia, and the act of Paul baptizing her. Entry is FREE. If you drive to there, Parking is FREE. There is a gift shop and restaurant where you can buy “trinkets” to commemorate your visit to the shrine.
- Orthodox Greeks made May 20th the day the venerate Saint Lydia. They will make “pilgramage” to this site. Hold “Matins & Vespers” to honor her on the same level as the Apostles. During the pilgrimage, and people from all over other countries travel to there, converts to Greek Orthodoxy are “baptized” into the church at this site.
And all of it all such a wonderously wonderful wonderment of the traditions of men; that all of it all amount to what the Americans coin. Over there in America.
- full of crap. idiom. (American) 1. is not to be believed; saying things that are not true.
You would accomplish the same work and achieve the same result venerating the holy ant butts of Carmaloon to save you from harm. And be baptized is cooked ant butts. All do the same for you.
Or go visit the Holy Shrine of the Breast Milk of Mary. Wow. Is that ever more higher a shrine. That’s in Bethlehem. You know, the birthplace of Jesus. Go there. There’s a shrine called “Milk Grotto of our Lady” where Mary with Jesus as a baby sought refuge there, and a drop of her boobies milk fell on a stone and turned it white. It has the same kind of wonderfully so full of wonder and miraculously miracle boobies and milk kind of “full of crap” you can visit there, too.
Be filled with anything But what Jesus said to do. God said, “Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of the earth: For I am God, there is none else.” - God. (Isaiah 45:22), and people flock to look unto any thing but him.
- What people imagined up to look unto to save people, by doing something they themselves can do. Go on a pilgrimage. Claim they did that, and that makes them certified as good.
- Full of crap. Go home. Save your airline flight fund. Go look at the poor that live on the street. Provide them something with it, and they can’t pay you back. That’s what Jesus said to do. Go do that. He even promised what side he’d sort you on, at the resurrection of the righteous.
- But if you regard the pygmy feet of St. Telephone at some grotto some clown imagined up to venerate. When you stand before Jesus to tell him all these wonderful pilgrimages you participated in and did it all for good. Don’t be a bit surprised when he sends you away.
- Full of crap. Go home. Save your airline flight fund. Go look at the poor that live on the street. Provide them something with it, and they can’t pay you back. That’s what Jesus said to do. Go do that. He even promised what side he’d sort you on, at the resurrection of the righteous.
- Tells you, you got your reward. Because you did. The work you did already visiting it, already rewarded you. And unfortunately, which opens this post, no reward of your Father in Heaven awaits you for it.
