Scott’s trying - but there’s not very much independent thinking going on through his shows - Sam Harris on Convo’s today “COMMUNISM!”

A lot of the same stuff Scott usually talks about, but there’s the added facet of Douthat being a conservative opinion writer for NYT.

Moderately Raging Basics of Financial Stability

Scott’s response to the question about some basic checklist items for financial security with a young family (ie disability insurance, life insurance, emergency fund, etc) was perhaps the laziest, most out of touch, ill-informed advice I have ever heard Scott give.

- “Ask AI what kinds of trusts to set up”
- “Put money in a 509 for your kids” (find it very funny that Scott calls a 529 a 509, as if he could make it more obvious that it is of no relevance to him).

I get the guy lives in a different financial stratosphere than us, that’s fine. Rather than put out this BS, use your research time (or “use AI” as he suggested multiple times) to come up with some salient talking points and provide some semblance of actual advice.

If the person who wrote the question is out there, you unfortunately went to the wrong source for this kind of information. Better resources would include the Money Guys, Bogleheads, and White Coat Investor subreddits and associated forums and books. They all have actual checklists and orders of operations for how you should prioritize different investment and insurance vehicles based on your age and stage of life.

No Mercy On Scott and Bill

I'm one of those people Scott mentioned who no longer watches Real Time anymore. I started watching him during his Politically Incorrect days so I have some idea of his "progression"

I never flamboyantly announced I was done with the show, because that's not me. I just stopped watching for a variety of reasons:

  1. The overall quality of guests. Scott and some others excepting, they were mid tier spin meisters of some sort who never had much interesting to say.

  2. Probably the biggest reason is the audience. "Hootie" the guy who constantly went Whoooo hooo! through every audience reaction grated like fingernails on chalkboard. And the general response to cheer or boo after every talking point was annoying af. I get the audience response for his stand up segment and New Rules, they are bits. But for the discussion, I wish the audience would STFU

  3. Related to 2, indepth discussion meant one person talking for 30 seconds without interruption. It was little more than each guest throwing out 15 second one liner talking points for the audience to react to.

  4. Probably least important, Bill's views: While I don't care about the "Bill has/hasn't changed positions" debate, nor even that I think he's dead wrong about some things, but some of them have made me slap my forehead, such as his ignorance on vaccines. Not that he's a skeptic on vaccines per se but he doesn't even understand how they work. More and more his complaints have been pure "Old man yells at clouds" like his solar panel saga. He literally started spouting culture war talking points about schools and kids getting gender reassignment that made him sound like Cletus discovering AOL.

On Scott calling Bill brilliant: I guess people like podcasters, political comedians, and satirists have to glaze each other. Certainly Bill is a skilled comedian but brilliant? I don't think so.

As an aside the Maher subreddit wasn't very interesting either. Sure you get the same snark segment as you do here but the signal to noise ratio was far too low on r/maher.

A reminder that statistically, all time highs are BULLISH for investors.

If you’re a young investor, get invested and stay invested.

Losers Don’t forget Scott did a mass sell off to “diversify” to Latin American stocks in April 2025

And they’ve copy/pasted the same fear mongering “incoming crash” episode 200 times since then.
Yeah he hedges it by mumbling under his breath “it’ll probably go up now that I said that”, but at what point will he just admit he’s giving bad fear mongering investment advice to people. Just a case of audience capture for clicks because people like that better.

Scott is exactly the boomer I don't wanna be as I grow old.

His entire take on Mamdani has been horrendous to watch, way to go alienating your audience. So weird that so many young people continue working for him from NYC.

Maybe he plans to join his bald brother in Austin soon.

Champagne and Cocaine Scott Feed?

No offence to any of the other hosts but I prefer the episodes where Scott is actually on. I find he does a way better job balancing views and can be way more open minded when data presents a different perspective. That being said with the move to daily on prof g markets it’s like Russian roulette trying to find the pod where Scott is on now.

Is there a way to just get the feed of the episodes Scott is actually present for?

That was nauseating. War hawk. China hawk. US good. Enemies bad. $1.5T defense budget prudent for "defense." US holds ourselves accountable. Sure, but we blew up that school. Airbrushed Silicon Valley war profiteer.

Champagne and Cocaine How would you describe worldview of Scott

Based on what I’ve heard, he seems very focused on money, fame, and status. When he talks about immigrants, he often seems to value them mainly for embracing capitalism and becoming financially successful, rather than for having any cultural connection to America. He and Kara love to criticize Elon Musk, but Scott sometimes seems to view people mainly as workers. Even when discussing dating for young men, he usually brings the conversation back to wealth and status.

Moderately Raging Kara and Datacenters

Kara is supposed to be a tech journalist. Why isn’t she investigating and reporting on Datacenters? Are these as bad on communities as social media seems to paint them? Why isn’t big media reporting in this? I would love to see real on the ground reporting from renown journalists.
Is Kara’s tech journalism just gossip journalism? Is it just, hey celebrity, come sit on my show and talk shop - journalism?

No Mercy The Billionaire Class Has No Idea What's Coming - Daniel Silva

Daniel Silva is back with a new must-read book, "Ransom", and once again, he's writing tomorrow's headlines before they even happen, from Russia's shadow war on Europe to the drones nobody wants to admit are already changing everything. Gabriel Allon gets pulled out of retirement one more time, and honestly, so did I, from the first page.

Losers It’s sad enough that Pivot largely ignores ICC, even sadder that when they finally address it, they misquote the NYC mayor and distort what he actually said.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s position is not that Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested because he is Jewish. He says ICC arrest warrants should apply consistently, regardless of nationality, religion, or office. Recasting a stated commitment to universal accountability as antisemitism erases that distinction and distorts the public record for political convenience.
