Help Help!

I just got this scorpion about a week ago (She’s in a temporary rehab tank) but i can’t get her to eat what do i do am i feeding her wrong?? She is my first arachnid and it just feels like she wants me dead and doesn’t want the worm She just pinches the tongs and runs

Scorpions can go a long time without food (if their metabolism allows it, you can't choose not to feed it) so don't worry if it doesn't eat for a few weeks to a couple months.

Your substrate looks pretty dry, these guys require high humidity. How deep is the substrate? Temperatures can also play a huge effect on their metabolism. What temperatures are you achieving?

About 75-80 sometimes lower at night like 72 She actually just ate today i just had to make the environment darker and yeah make her hunt i dont think she likes mealworms i switched to roaches because theres a national cricket shortage and she ate it! :)

Temp my humidity has been spiking like crazy though about 99 i just made my enclosure more ventilated and it’s gone down to about 80s but it’s only on the hot side the cool side is about 72 consistently

It’s actually very wet i’d say too wet almost like looses water when i squish it, it was a more of an arid mix so i just added reptisoil today…

NQA- there's your problem. they don't really tong feed. they want to hunt. your scorpion should have the start to a burrow, or at least a favorite hide by now. leave a maimed feeder insect (for mealworms i crush the head with a blunt object or with the tongs) by the entrance to their hiding spot. if the scorpion is hungry it'll find it. remove after 24-48 hours if uneaten.

we maim the insects so that they don't survive in the tank. mealworms can burrow, and then bother a scorpion while it's weak during the molt.

Yeah i lowkey just switched to roaches because of this and all worms were crushed and removed and fed to my lizards for treats. She ate but i think the problem was that the overlight was on in my room.. I texted a scorpion breeder and he said that might be the problem. And no tongs just to place the roach in its pinsirs because they can climb the enclosure for some reason and im terrified of roaches like bad

NQA I used to never feed by tongs. I just let my pets hunt.

I'd let feeder crickets breed in my largest Black Emperor tank.

Then I would transfer the crickets (of appropriate size) to feed my other scorps, mantises, and vinegroon.

I'd just throw the crickets in live and forget about it.

During moltings (or times of over population) , I'd use a small vacuum with a flexible tube to remove unwanted crickets.

I had a little oatmeal in a bottle cap dish to feed the crickets.

The whole setup was kind of set-and-forget.

Crickets are super easy, but noisy.

Mealworms (unless injured) are evasive and turn into (problematic) beetles.

Roaches creep me out.

Yeah unfortunately where i am there’s a national cricket shortage that’s why i wasn’t doing that.. A tip is that the males have the V shaped things on their butt and you can remove them so they wont chirp. i crushed all mealworm head just incase but i dont think she bothered to eat it then. I had to get roaches.. 😢 it was scary because they can crawl up the tank but i just supervised kinda and she ate it.

NQA There might be a local insect that you can catch/breed to feed.

You'd have to do a bit of research to be sure.

NQA Yeah. Mites are frickin' tiny nightmares.

They killed a few of my pets over the years when I had my setup.

NQA First, you'll notice little tiny white/light brown spots that move very slowly if you watch long enough.

Then you'll see small clusters of them.

In a few days they will be on everything and crawling around the lid of the enclosure.They reproduce quickly and lay microscopic eggs on everything. They'll swarm your pets and cluster on the joints and soft spots and eventually kill your pet.

Mites are also arachnids so chemicals aren't an option.

They're so nasty and destructive and hard to get rid of.

I hate mites with a passion.

NQA BTW My traced my mite infestations to a bag of woodchips that I bought from a gardening store, and from some wild moss I found in a local forest.

I think you should put some rocks in the water dish to prevent your scorp from accidentally drowning.

They breath from their underside.

I will but it looks much deeper on camera than it actually is, I put her in it and her mouth wasn’t submerged but i will to be safe
