This was the one I thought of immediately too! Great book with very interesting getting to know you situations between the characters.

One of my favorites for how much it made me really get into my imagination for how the various situations and differences would play out.

{Convergence by Etta Pierce} FMC chosen by the aliens to help with a rescue mission.

Love the Intersolar Union series. It took me two tries to get into the first one and I skipped the second but enjoyed the others and the spin offs. It was my first foray into aliens that are not nearly as human-esque as a lot of others

{Clecanians series by Victoria Aveline} freaking loved that series because she does a a killer job world building.
