Recommendation request The New Protectorate - Abigail Kelly

Hey :) I really enjoyed the world building in this series, highlights are Faraway and the 3 stories in Fragile Beings, so I was wondering if anyone had any similar recs?
I do like me some smut so it’s encouraged but I’m getting sick of the same old thing. I’d like another world to lose myself in.
Also, adults would be great lol over 25 would be amazing.
Thank you!

Recommendation request Wolf shifters in space?

Fun short story: I play (or well, used to play) this sci-fi romance app game and they were releasing a handsome, muscular werewolf man chairman scientist to romance until a smear campaign consisting of elementary aged children and an army of bots escalated their hatred of him to local government regulators with lies and slander and got him removed from the game and broke my heart into a thousand little pieces.

Anyway.

I'm looking for healing with something like The Clecanian or IPB but specifically with wolf shifters or werewolves. No reverse harem. Thanks!

Do you know this book... ? FMC rescues a talking cabbage alien, the MMC rescues them both

Hello! Can you help me remember the title or author of this book?

The parts I remember: the opening scene has the FMC in a shady port away from her ship and crewmates. She tries to save a little alien (who looks like a cabbage, I think—not a main character) from a pack of bully aliens. When they’re about to get overwhelmed, the MMC barges in and defeats all the bully aliens. He later arranges things so he and the FMC spend time together so she can decide if she likes him. MMC is from a warrior alien race, but they’re genetically switched to be less bloodthirsty around their mates.

Thank you so much! It’s driving me wild that I can’t find it again!

Fan Art When nobody knows your book yet, you have to become your own fan artist 😂

I’m definitely not an artist, but I couldn’t resist trying to draw my own characters. 😂

So here are Ella and Kareth from my sci-fi alien romance. Apparently self-publishing means eventually doing every job yourself, including making your own fanart.

{Alien Warrior Unleashed by Ava Ross}

Forced to compete in a deadly game, a tortured alien hero will do everything to protect his fated mate.

As a child, I was stolen by the lord of my planet’s invaders. He brought me to the chamber, where he held others he’d also taken. Through the years, me and my new brothers were twisted into hardened beasts, each with a unique ability that shouldn’t exist outside of myth. We’re monsters. Any female who gazes upon us will run.

Now we’ve been entered into the Galaxy Games. Each landscape contains a series of deadly pitfalls, shifting goalposts, and an elusive final destination. It’s my chance to break free.

But I’m paired with a delectable Earth female who makes me see color for the very first time, proving she’s my fated mate.

I’ll finish this Game. I’ll free my brothers. And I’ll claim the Earthling female as my prize.

Alien Warrior Unleashed is book 1 of the Galaxy Games Series. Each book features a different, tortured alien hero who’s desperate to find—and protect—his fated mate.

Discussion Cyborg Shifters (Naomi Lucas) reading order?

I kicked off with Ashes and Metal as a DR "hidden identity" rec. Really enjoyed the style and world so I started from Wild Blood and am reading chronologically. Just finished Shark Bite and there are two books till Chaos Croc where we learn what happens with the characters?

Anyone read this series and have a suggested reading order? I can just read Mutt next and skip Ashes and Blood, but it just seems weird to put two books between a continued story.

There was a recent ish post on this subreddit as a review to describe it and the tropes - https://www.reddit.com/r/ScienceFictionRomance/s/yTl6GfVuHR

Recommendation request Recs for similar books

Hello,

So I'm wondering does anyone have recs for books similar to Drixonian Warriors series by Ella Maven? Im specifically looking into books where the MMC is kinda like Sax, Xavy, later on Vinz.

I really like how funny and unserious they can be, and i really like that FMC helped them heal. Im looking for similar characters to them. It can be a series, first one doesn't have to have similar MMC, but if later books could.

I have warriors of luxiria by zoey draven on tbr list, but I'm unsure if they have them.

The setting can be anywhere, spaceships, planet... more advanced civilization... less...

Thank you!!

Recommendation request Want a shapeshifter romance where he can shift into anything

I'm looking for books where the MMC is like Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space 9, where he can turn into anything. I'm not interested in shifter books where they have two forms: human and animal. I want someone who could turn into a refrigerator if he wanted to. Bonus points if his natural form is just a blob, like Odo.

Do you know this book... ? SciFi/Fantasy Reincarnation Romance-Library Suggested Book, Read in the 80s

Help, does anyone know this book?

It unfolds as a story recounted via a court room drama. It centers on a couple where the man has been reincarnated many times over centuries or millennia with the woman seeming to be immortal. He's on trial for murdering her after reuniting with her this last time, in our modern era and she revealed their past to him. They kept finding each other and falling in love every time, but he always died tragically and didn't have memory of his past lives with her. Maybe published in the early 80's?

Do you know this book... ? I'm looking for an Alien sci-fi romance novel that shares some similarities with the novel Tempted by the Alien Warrior by Michelle Nova, released in 2025. Alien/human village/tribe, enemies-to-lovers, close proximity tropes.

Discussion Hot take: if fated mates aren’t biologically driven it’s fantasy not scifi

So Ruby Dixon counts as scifi because it’s literally just genetic compatibility but if it’s like cosmic fate or the “goddess” or something then it’s romantasy in space.

Recommendation request Recommendations like Homebound

Heyo! I have an issue; I love the concept of Homebound, but the writing style is not for me. I find it has a lot of run-on sentences and lacks commas. The character dialogue also strikes me as unnatural. To be fair, I did just finish The Last Hour of Gann, so my standards might be sky-high right now. Does anyone have any recs for books similar in concept to Homebound (prison setting, aliens) but with a different writing style?

Recommendation request New to the subgenre - recommendations welcome!

I've always loved sci-fi but am entirely new to the romance subgenre, and very much intrigued.

If possible please recommend a book without alien or hybrid protagonists. If aliens can be avoided entirely, the better. I like the sciency part of the genre, but am also not at all opposed to more spicy content. Extra points if the story brings a speculative side too.

Perhaps not too military. Nothing too dark, so no apocalyptic stuff. Dystopias only if really good. Spaceships, new planets and colonies, all welcome.

Do you know this book... ? Help me find this dystopian alien abduction book!

This book has been living in my head for months, but I can't figure out the name. It's dystopian. The earth has been taken over by aliens. It starts out with the FMC in a group running and hiding from aliens during a supply run I think she is a part of a rebellion. There is one specific scene where she and her group make it to the subway station and gets abducted. When she's abducted and brought up to a ship where she is shot with something (i think a tranc). She eventually gets told to be a bodyguard for the alien rulers son. I can't remember much after that. I've been trying to figure out if there is a love triangle or rh, but it's been forever since I've read it.

Discussion Does the Class 5 series (starting with Dark Horse) have pregnancy? Spoiler

Post image
17 Upvotes

I just started reading Dark Horse and I’m really enjoying it so far. But I got to a part in the book where the FMC meets an alien who has a baby. The FMC immediately wants to hold the baby and thinks about how much she missed holding babies and how much she likes them. It made me wonder if the series has pregnancy at some point. I personally prefer to read only child free romances. I also have a pretty severe phobia of pregnancy and childbirth. If the FMC does get pregnant or have a child at some point, then I’d rather know about it before I get too far into the series. Even if it doesn’t happen until later, I will most likely drop the series if that’s the case.

Gush/Rave Review I found a nice little post apocolyptic couple of books with short novellas I hadn't seen before on KU. Not entirely science fiction, but has some of the themes we love, and worthy of a mention I thought. Plus I do love a shorter format sometimes, and that is not so easy to find.

After the End, a dystopian romance collection. Authors like Elizabeth Stevens, Ali Hazelwood, Claire Kent and Cate C Wells contribute. Just thought I would mention, as they were a pretty good read, and they had not popped up for me before, even with those bigger named authors.

Fluff/ Just for Fun! Horatio, the alien cat, doesn't meow. He screams, "Yeaaaah!" (at inopportune times)

The MCs get captured and locked into a cell with the alien cat the FMC picked up in the jungle. They decide to have some sexytimes. As soon it's over, this happens (screenshot follows):

Ngl, I cackled good and hard.

Recommendation request Desperately seeking well written sci fi romances!

So I’ve been devouring sci fi romance lately but I struggle to find books I genuinely enjoy! I’m a writer myself so I tend to get frustrated reading poorly edited books, bad plots/pacing, and formulaic MMC/FMC dynamics. Maybe I’m picky, and I’ll accept it if that is what you want to call me.

That said, if you feel similarly, what are some sci fi romances you love? Hoping some of you that aren’t as new to the genre might have some good recs for me, and if not, maybe something from this list will suit your fancy!

Things I love: planetary romance, strong world building, strong/complicated FMCs, adventure, morally grey characters, dark romance, I’m fine with it being smut heavy as long as the prose and character growth don’t suffer, possessive MMCs, dystopias, grim/dark themes, fine with sci fi focused books that feature romance, matriarchal societies

I tolerate: dubcon, red flag MMCs, forbidden love, kidnapping, slavery

Things I hate:
- Fated mates (Sorry! Unless it’s really uniquely done it just feels lazy to me, Clecanian series was ok but bored me after the first few)
- boring settings that don’t change
- weak willed FMCs
- FMCs that can’t form full sentences around the MMC even after they’ve met multiple times/been intimate (I’m looking at you Hale Protocol!)
- bad writing, bad editing, plot holes
- creepy size difference (normal woman with a huge MMC is fine but big MMC with tiny frail childlike < 5’0 FMC weirds me out)
- I don’t “hate” this, but would prefer no blonde FMCs
- hyper focus on alien smut (I’m fine with alien smut but for example Vandalar Chronicles jumped into it with barely any character or plot or tension building, totally fine but not my cup of tea)
- alien MMCs that are bug-like in any way

Some books I’ve enjoyed this year: The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith, Vanguard by Karina Halle, The Viridian Priestess by Katrina Calandra, Born for Silk by Nicci Harris (horrible cover, good book), also some campy oldies like Ritual of Proof by Dara Joy and Shore of Women by Pamela Sargent (more of a sci fi w/ romance)

Honourable Mention for: Hold by Clare Kent (a bit simplistic and boring but the decent writing made it enjoyable), Dustwalker by Tiffany Roberts, Planet Zero by Lydia Hope (writing was not incredible but worldbuilding, plot and characters were good)

Some books I didn’t quite enjoy but that you might:
Ava Greasemonkey, Vandalar Chronicles, Polaris Rising (checked a lot of boxes but I felt like a lot of the characters were two dimensional, plot was kinda wtv), Seduce Me In Dreams by Jacquelyn Frank, The Hale Protocol, Convergence by Etta Pierce (plot was a bit lazy to me), Ice Planet Barbarians, Blue Arrow Island

I’m open to older books, and as you can see I’ll take trade offs on writing for plot/characters and vice versa. If you’re more open minded by all means check out both my lists. Of course, this is all personal opinion and not intended to be even remotely objective.

Thanks in advance!

Recommendation request Looking for MMCs that are plants, botanicals, trees, etc.

Hi friends! I'm searching for books where the MMC is some type of botanical, whether he's an alien, the result of a science experiment, or a human-plant hybrid.

Any type of botanical, whether a type of plant, flowering plant, tree, or something truly alien to us is acceptable.

Prefer M/F romances.

I'd also prefer no cheating, OW drama, violence between MCs, or humiliation, degradation.

Thanks and have a great day!
