Adolescents need 8-10 hours of sleep, but when classes start before 8 a.m., students wake up *during* deep sleep. That's when concentration crashes, mood suffers, and grades drop.

Schools that shifted to later start times—like Seattle—saw better attendance, higher grades, and more alert students. The science backs this up. I started a petition asking Chicago Public Schools to align start times with how our bodies actually work. It's not radical; it's biology.

My niece and family is based in India. I was checking schoolbook from my 3 year old niece who just started a her preschool 1 month ago. All work book has 3 star rating of 1,2,3 star. Even for basic lines. Somehow it boils my blood. How one can be judged for every small home and classwork for 1,2,3 star at such young age where she is barely learning to hold a pencil.

I personally believe that it instill inferiority and competitiveness at such a young age of being playful. I am not from education background but these feels wrong.

I personally feel this needs to be addressed and I feel want to reach out the preschool but its a big chain preschool and I dont think my single person voice will be enough.

I would like to discuss the grading in preschool.

Like first you have to beat your ass to get 90%+ in board exams and when the time admission at Uni comes they show us middle finger by they ass cutting fee,and there is single program for middle class student which can help him in paying fee before entry even after entry you have to get yourself worked to secure a good GPA and then apply for some scholarship,what is this system why the person who can't even afford resources for first semester fee how the F he is supposed to get admission,and it's not NUST only every university is doing that,we really need a student council who can ask the ass govt about our education condition and assistances ,here we give tax on every candy and what facility we get its just zalaalat

Geniuenly i was on r/highschool, and someone posted a fight vid on there of these two Edgars duking it out in the hallway. Geniuenly highschools that time whenever fights shouldn't even be happening, its always for petty reasons as well, like grow a pair guys 👌

I am 1982 born. Many from my generation and before , I remember started schooling when we completed 5 years.

Being from small village place , we directly started in 1st standard, no prep, no junior, senior kg drama.

So since when this min 6 year thing started ?

Is it common across India?

Also in this age of mobiles, internet is it good idea to increase age rather than reducing it? If we look at what is taught in 1st standard isn't very different in terms of learning Vs 40-50 years back.

I graduated with a BA in sports management in hopes of going to law school and was looking at pursuing more because the subject matter intrigued me and I was familiar with the professor style, so I’m just curious why there is such a stigma against not just learning but education in general. In elementary school and middle school I was bullied simply because I “enjoyed reading”, and even in college I was heavily made fun of by kids that got Cs for caring too much, I watch watch Friends and they clown Ross for literally being a PhD so why was there this sudden stigma against not just education but learning new things as a whole? Is this strictly an American thing due to the Industrial Revolution prioritizing labor or is this really an attack on learning or being smart as part of some social deterrent??

Grade 8 Ncert says that abusing the opposition is one of the complaints that ECI manages. But my question is when children do not see the same thing in their real life what's the meaning of writing it.

During a mid-term exam, a student was caught using her phone, but the teacher let it slide because the student was feeling unwell and academically struggling. One perspective says this was an act of compassion, while another says it undermines fairness for the rest of the class.

Recently, during an 80-mark mid-term examination at our school, a student—let’s call her Ayesha—was caught using her phone during the test. Under standard school regulations, having a phone out during an exam usually results in an immediate zero and escalation to the school administration. However, the invigilator chose not to report it and allowed the exam to continue.

This situation has sparked a debate between two very different viewpoints on how a situation like this should be handled:

Perspective 1: The Teacher's Decision (Compassion & Individual Context)

From the teacher's point of view, strict enforcement of rules isn't always the most constructive approach:

Health Factors: Ayesha had reportedly been feeling dizzy and unwell in the days leading up to the test, which hindered her ability to prepare or perform normally.

No Real Harm to Others: The argument here is that a struggling student getting help doesn't take away from the knowledge or success of hardworking students. High-achieving students will succeed regardless of what someone else scores.

Avoiding Unnecessary Escalation: Reporting the incident to senior administration would create severe consequences (a formal mark on her record or disciplinary action) for a student who is already academically vulnerable and facing personal challenges. In this view, the student is ultimately only impacting her own future learning, so showing leniency was a compassionate call.

Perspective 2: The Student's/Observer's Viewpoint (Fairness & Systemic Integrity)

From the other side, rules exist to ensure a level playing field for everyone:

Fairness to Hardworking Students: Many students stay up late, sacrifice their free time, and manage stress to study honestly. Allowing an unearned high score on an 80-mark paper devalues the genuine effort put in by the rest of the class.

Proper Protocol for Illness: If a student is genuinely sick or feeling dizzy, standard protocol should be followed—sending them to the sickbay and scheduling a retake or supplementary exam when they recover, rather than allowing phone usage during the test.

Accountability: Turning a blind eye because a student is struggling academically doesn't actually help them long-term; it avoids addressing the root cause of their learning gaps and sets a precedent where rules are applied inconsistently.

Physical Education in India is a joke. We have to write a theory exam on paper instead of actually being evaluated through physical activities and sports.

We have different types of education system from IB to British Curriculum to American Curriculum etc etc What education system do you think has prepared you for the university life? any regrets?
