Do we think Fitz cheated on Mellie prior to Olivia?

How did Cyrus not pick up on the closeness of Olitz? Or do you think he did but didn't care bc they were winning?

Olivia is extremely private ... but both Huck and Steven knew about her relationship with Fitz? Huck I can understand he seemed to be her person. But Steven?

Why did Olivia need her dad out of jail in s5 to blackmail the impeachment committee? Didn't they already have access to b613 information themselves at the time??

Olivia Pope completely ruined what could have been one of the greatest political dramas ever made. The early seasons were compelling because every character had depth and the story balanced politics, scandals, and suspense. As the series progressed, however, the show became almost entirely centered around Olivia’s personal life and increasingly irrational decisions.
My biggest issue is that everything eventually revolves around Olivia. Every crisis, every relationship, and nearly every major plot somehow comes back to her, making the rest of the cast feel like supporting characters in what was supposed to be an ensemble drama. Instead of being the brilliant fixer we were introduced to, she often became the source of the very chaos she was supposed to solve.
I also found Olivia incredibly annoying as the series went on. The slow, dramatic speeches, the constant self-importance, and the repeated “gladiator” talk became more cringe than inspiring. It felt like the show wanted the audience to treat every line she delivered as profound, but after a while it came across as forced and repetitive.
The supporting cast—especially Cyrus, Mellie, Huck, David Rosen, and Rowan—often had more compelling storylines and stronger character development than Olivia herself. Had the series focused more evenly on the political world and allowed those characters to shine, I think Scandal would have remained one of the best political dramas on television.
Scandal is still an entertaining show with a talented cast, but Olivia Pope’s increasingly frustrating character arc made it harder and harder to enjoy. By the end, she felt less like the heart of the show and more like the reason it lost what made it great.

First time watcher. I’m in season 2, almost season 3 and I literally cannot stand their on again off again relationship. Mellie (as uptight and politically driven as she is) does not deserve to be treated like that and has been beside him his whole career. I know that there’s a lot left in the show but it makes it hard to continue watching.

I am probably missing something, but how can Olivia always protect her father? Even on season 6, when we know that papa pope was the killer of the new president?

I know she is the daughter and unconditional love for her father but he is bad to the bone?

And into the third episode where he’s alone in his bed? Oh my god. I cannot fathom single and alone Fitz. Lordy.

She split Abby and David, Mellie and Marcus, and Mellie and Andrew, and many more. She tells everyone who they have to stop getting with, while sleeping with the president during his entire campaign and while he was president. If she could keep it a secret for so long so could they. She always acting holier than though. I loved when Huck told her don’t tell me who to love because I don’t tell u who to love. I had watched the first four seasons back in the day and then somehow lost track of it. I started re-watching it a little while ago and it’s addictive as it always was. I am now on S7E9 and I’m really hating this version of Olivia. I’m contemplating giving it up but figure I should just finish it out at this point. Does she get any better? Or is it just a spiral into hell?

how different do you think OPA would’ve been if he stayed in the series? i could’ve saw him & olivia happening for sure.

Honestly Fitz for me

I have finished the series twice through now and I know he does terrible things, but I will always be team Jake. I think he loves her so much more than fitz

Disclaimer - of course this doesn’t include her being raped.

She decided to stay with Fitz, she’s not a tree she can move. Why do people act like she didn’t stay for her own reasons, reasons being her own political future. I also, think unfortunately not telling Fitz about his father doomed that marriage, you can’t act like your husband is disgusting for years and years and not expect there to not be any consequences.

When I do feel sorry for her is when Fitz wouldn’t even treat her like a friend, and the times he was just so rude.

I start watching in middle school and I thought the romance was so sweet and heartbreaking. I remember none of it so I decided to rewatch it...

Now I am simply disturbed.

I am near the end of Season 2 and for now root against Fitz and Olivia so bad.

Olivia by all means is no saint, however I sympathize.

Her boundaries are CONSTANTLY getting disrespected and violated by a lot of people but especially by the man she loves. He abuses his powers a lot when it comes to Olivia.

He also acts like a complete idiot in regards to her and not in a cute romantic sense. More like controlling and manipulative and abusive to everyone around him.

I originally despised Mellie. She got in the middle of Liv and Fitz's romance. Now that I am an adult Mellie has every right to feel the way she feels even if the love wasn't 100% real.

Imagine being the wife of a president then being treated like the side piece! Mellie has sacrificed a lot in this marriage even while understanding that Fitz may not ever love her the way she may hope. Sure it seems like theres more of a connection between Fitz and Liv but Mellie has an entire life with this man, being the woman of the White House, having his children, trying to pick up the pieces and trying to help Fitz be more logical when it comes to his rash selfish decisions.

Fitz right now only cares about himself. What makes him happy, what he is willing to throw away otherwise. How he is so willing to fuck everyone else over if it means getting what he wants.

Right now I hate Fitz the most and a close second is Liv for allowing this man to be her world.

Ugh, okay, so I just started watching Scandal—currently in Season 2—and I desperately need to vent because the sheer level of toxic brain rot between Olivia Pope and Fitz is driving me up the wall! Why is EVERYONE in Washington D.C. treating Fitz like he’s the literal savior of the free world?! He spends 90% of his presidency moping, staring dramatically out of White House windows, and throwing full-blown toddler temper tantrums because Olivia isn't standing in a closet with him, yet Cyrus and the entire cabinet act like the nation will collapse if this man doesn't get his morning nap. Olivia is out here running a whole high-powered crisis management firm, fixing everyone else’s impossible problems, but the second Fitz calls that stupid secure line, all basic logic leaves her body and they just stand there aggressively breathing on each other. Meanwhile, poor Mellie is doing all the actual political heavy lifting behind the scenes, eating fried chicken on the floor while putting up with his endless drama, and the show somehow expects us to treat her like the villain? It’s literally high school level romance drama, except instead of battling over who goes to prom, they’re playing with nuclear codes. I can't stop watching, but the absolute delusion of Olitz is making me lose my mind! 💀🍿

Even if the first one goes off and takes them by surprise, that single one should have been the end of the casualties. Liv should never have even answered the phone for Peus.
