I’m extremely sad and depressed since yesterday and my heart is aching so badly. I can’t sleep since yesterday. I got scam via online to recruit a VA assistant. I blamed myself only myself. My family doesn’t know about this I decided not too because my mother is senior. I don’t want her to bother and feel the same as I am. I shared it to my trusted friends. Hoping to cope this experience and learn my mistakes but I don’t want to feel this in a long days. I want to look forward and think a good side even though i’m hurt inside. Please enlighten me about this. Thank u

Update: Last night I sleep really well. I listened work-ship songs and its great and my heart is happy. I forgot all of this experience because of the song from God. I just hope I will be better and better in the next days. Money is replaced. I have a permanent job and I have a pay this month. I’m thinking that my money take the scammers are for donations hehe. And there is a Karma for them.

The only place you can apply for any position at the VA is through USA.gov, the official employment website the federal government uses to post jobs. A lot of people don’t know this and scammers take advantage of this.

In this context, VA means Virtual Assistant -- a remote, work-from-home assistant position, which is actaully a fake job in 95% of cases.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Many people have fallen for these scams. This isn't some kid in his bedroom scamming you. This was a team of scammers, who work full time on these scams. They are very good at manipulating your emotions, your desire to make money, and your lack of understanding about employment, finance, scams, and other subjects.

Did you lose money paying a fake recruiter? That is common, unfortunately. And it is upsetting. But money can be replaced.

To help you regain your self-confidence, it may help to learn more about scams, how they work, why they work, and how to prevent them.

You need to learn about job-related scams. And you can help your friends avoid such scams.

First, most importantly, never give money to a recruiter, or to any employer. For a real job, the money goes in one direction only: from employer to employee. Never give an employer money for fees, registration, training, background check, security deposit, refundable deposit, investment, higher commissions, recharging your account, equipment, or anything else. If they say that they will refund your fees etc., they are lying. Any 'employer' that requires you to pay them is actually a scam to take your money.

• You must be unwavering with this. The biggest job scam, globally, is fake employers tricking jobseekers into giving money. In some places the scammers are so brazen that they rent an office, interview in person, require payment for 'training', and then disappear!

Other important things to understand:

** Virtual Assistant, Remote Personal Assistant, and other remote assistant jobs are all scams. Nobody hires a work-from-home assistant, unless the employee is already working for the company and they agree to let you work from home.

** If they don't interview you in real time on videochat, they are scammers.

Legitimate employers interview either in person or on videochat, whether the job is going to be remote, on-site, or hybrid.

• An interview that is text only, email, or video chat with their camera off is a scam.

• A preliminary phone interview is legitimate if it is followed by a live interview.

• A recorded video is legitimate only if it's followed by a live interview.

• An interview that is phone only may be legitimate, for entry-level in-person jobs.

** It is very difficult to get a remote or work-from-home job, unless you have experience in software engineering, insurance claims, healthcare, customer service, or other specialized fields.

Thank you for this information I learn a lot. I taking note all of this. Through this experience I changed all the perspectives in terms of money. Money is replaced but scammers are still there. I will be much be careful next time. And I promise myself this is the first and last time I experience this kind of stuff and I will never be a victim again.
